Noble Row
BYOND Key: Noble Row Character Names: Broadsword Castile Eliza Trin Xavier Vance Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Darakath Brown: RGB 158, 116, 60 / Hex #9E743C or Mudki Stone: RGB 98, 84, 65 / Hex #625441 (I like fashion and will pick one of these while looking at a character creation screen if that is okay) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read the expansive pages of Unathi Lore that both horrify and fascinate me with the quantity of lore. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I admit, the train of thought that led me to writing this document all started after being exposed to Bloodclaw long enough. The idea of a funny pirate lizard man was appealing to me, and soon, I was exploring the Unathi ghost role ships as an observer, finding that I enjoyed the aesthetic the Unathi have in their hardsuits and vessels. Delving into the lore only deepened my enthusiasm for writing this application. From the feudalistic society with similarities to the society the Elites have in Halo, to the race’s diversity and castes. On one hand you have Unathi Knights in the Kataphracts, on the other, you have the honorable exiled roaming the desert, seeking a proper death. The variety was staggering, and the more I read with my sleep-addled mind, the more I grew to enjoy them. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Compared to humanity, the Unathi are a dedicated, religious, and feudalistic society existing in the space age. Their sense of family, or clan, is much more ingrained, and their ways of life are very constructed and set out for them. Most Unathi have established and strict gender roles that have a commanding hand in society, but with a keen amount of respect. The men take the more dangerous and laborious tasks, the women, the more caring positions. Either role still garners the same amount of respect as each role is still exceptionally important. In most cases the Unathi clans also hold a significant amount of power over individual Unathi, both like and unlike a human noble with their subjects. Like, in the aspect of power and control, but unlike, in how it is ingrained in Unathi similar to familial ties humans have. You typically do not treat your boss like your brother or father as a human, whether you like them or not. Character Name: Auk’Lin Vihnmes Please provide a short backstory for this character Hatched upon a landcrawler to a clan of Sk’akh reclaimers roaming the Moghean wasteland Auk’Lin (I know they typically go by their last names but for the sake of this story we will refer to him by his first) started off life with a jack of many trades teaching. His reclaimer clan scoured the wasteland outside of Clan Vihnmes’ Oasis, instructing him the ins and outs of landcrawler survival in the teachings of two of the three aspects of Sk’akh. At his young age, Auk’Lin was taught the basics of landcrawler maintenance framed as teachings of the Fisherman, his small frame allowing him access to narrower maintenance areas adult Unathi could not fit in to. As he grew older, the tenements of the Warrior were slowly fed to him as he was taught in defense of the clan with firearms, knives, and the use of the Reclaimer's scout plane. With his teenage years came the allowance to venture with the expedition teams of the landcrawler for scavenging and salvage missions in the harsh wastes, utilizing his growing knowledge of the Warrior and Fisherman to fight off Punished raids and provide valuable salvage for the prosperity of his clan. Throughout his youth Auk’Lin’s reclaimer clan found themselves in the hearty dealings of the merchant clan, Clan Vihnmes and their Oasis within the wasteland, having provided exceptional protection and lavish salvage exchanges since the emergence of the reclaimer clans after the Contact War. While harbored within Clan Vihnmes’ oasis, Auk’Lin embroiled himself with a sociable life. Befriending fellow Sinta, wandering Vaurca and Diona alike, and enrolling in a tertiary education in the local IAC field schools with permission of his reclaimer clan’s Patriarch. Here is where Auk’Lin first encountered Hephaestus Industries, with his first official job being a temporary couriership with the company, delivering small packages between outposts within the Oasis while his clan’s landcrawler was undergoing maintenance. During an expedition, shortly after Auk’Lin’s entrance into adulthood, the landcrawler was beset upon by a large force of raiders from punished clans. Their colors Auk’Lin could not make out in the night, and fighting as hard as he could, he and his clanmates could not prevent the disabling of their landcrawler before they fought the raiders to a retreat. After a desperate and failed attempt at repairs, the demands of the wounded could not be ignored, and Auk’Lin and another clansmen were tasked to travel across the grueling desert back to Clan Vihnmes’ Oasis for assistance. Traversing the desert and reaching the Oasis in their scout plane was the easy part, getting the IAC doctors back to the landcrawler in time required ground transport, which arrived too little too late. Upon their return, much of the wounded had passed, diminishing the once great reclaimer clan down to just a collection of hollow souls. Though Clan Vihnmes did not forget the service the reclaimers paid their clan over the years, offering Auk’Lin and his clan shelter, nourishment, and eventually integration. Adopting his new Clan’s name, Auk’Lin found himself disheartened. Losing the legacy of his clan, although to a friend, and seeing the decrepit and scarred souls of those who remained was too much for him. He thought back to Hephaestus, the industrial powerhouse slowly growing on his homeworld, and thought of the land beyond the sky in which they operate. A new legacy, new story, new history to bring glory to his clan, old or new. Discussing with the former head of his clan, gaining his blessing, before signing a contract with Hephaestus to act as a miner among the stars. Providing, Fighting, and discovering in the name of the Fisherman, Warrior and his Clan. What do you like about this character? Auk’Lin Vihnmes is a young Unathi with the aspiration to “take on the world for his family”. Disparaged by the loss of many clansmen in the past, but still having the drive in his heart to try to make everything right by his clan, new and old. This duality offers a character who still grieves, still needs to heal, but is not held down by it. It is a level of dedication and charge that I can admire, and hope I do justice through roleplay. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would like to think I am decent, but I always try my best to improve. Notes: My backstory writing skill and lore reading comprehension has been diminished greatly by me being super tired when I get home from work, and this throbbing headache I have from the incredible amount of smoke outside due to the Canadian wildfires. If there is anything I got wrong, missed, or should improve upon, do let me know, and I will do my best to fix up those holes. Thank you for reading! Link to comment

You mention this here, but then in your backstory, I don't see any mentions of Auk'lins Clan, Parents, important people to his development, etc. I would like you to expand your backstory to include things like that, because, as you mentioned, clans are ingrained and important. 17 hours ago, Noble Row said: Auk’Lin embroiled himself with a sociable life. If so, how did they change his outlook on life? One more question. Does Auk'lin have any hobbies? 1 Link to comment
Noble Row
I have been playing a robot for too long. I knew I should have developed his familial and social ties. Alright! Addendum: During his youth, Auk'lin of clan Yolbrin'Tau spent much of his time with his immediate family aboard the landcrawler. His father, Porsue, held the dual role of engineer and protector of the landcrawler, specializing in the maintenance and usage of the vessel's airborne scout craft and taught Auk'lin much of his knowledge, leading the young Sinta to grow a preference for his father. His mother, Gichant, a cook foremost with teacher and engineer being secondary roles, still loved by Auk'lin. However, due to the roles set within the landcrawler and Sinta culture, Auk'lin found much of his development supported by his father. Auk'lin also grew fond of his uncle, Yek, (while not his official uncle, had shared much of his life with Porsue, Auk'lin's father, as close friends) who lead the landcrawlers outward expeditions for salvage and acted as chaperone to the young Sinta during excursions in to their stops at the Vihnmes Oasis until Auk'lin was old enough to venture on his own. Auk'lin's friend group started initially only including other young Sinta his age that he encountered in his short stints in the IAC provided field schools. An ever changing pool of faces and acquaintances that only maintained familiar characters around the time Auk'lin grew in to his preteen years, where he regularly encountered two female Unathi, Helkma, Kairoon, and Sands Between Gardens, a fledgling Dionae who helped tend the local farms. His fellow Sinta were reoccurring friends from the IAC field school, in which, since the three of them first encountered one another, bonded over sports and dice games on the streets of the Oasis, and the two were the polar opposite of one another. Sands Between Gardens was his closest friend, this conglomeration of several nymphs Auk'lin formed a strong bond with. Being his closest confidant, most dependable ally, and greatest teacher, Sands Between Gardens was by Auk'lin's side whenever the rustboy made port, swiftly informing him on everything he missed in his absence. Sands Between Gardens not only brought Auk'lin a level of trust he held with no other individual, he gave true sight about what it means to provide for others, such as the teachings of the Fisherman. Auk'lin was amazed by the curative properties the Dionae held on the wasteland. The sapping of radiation from the soil and food, and the expansion of the Oasis through agriculture, Auk'lin held these teachings in his heart and formed the spine of his decision in the future to venture in to the void to care for his clan and his clan's new name. Helkma Vihnmes held a calm, collected attitude, and over time taught Auk'lin sensibility and control in situations where his family would not be there to save him. Kairoon Kuhwinla, on the other hand, was wild and untraditional orphan, longing to join Auk'lin or other reclaimers in battle in the wasteland against the Punished hoards. Her rambunctious nature lead her and Auk'lin in to trouble many-a-time, often with the unintentional destruction of a market stall or local window, and while she often was "More trouble that she wasssssss worth" according to Auk'lin and his superiors, Auk'lin learned a discipline from her. An understanding for rules that exist for a good reason, and those that exist for arbitrary bureaucracy not necessarily beneficial to anyone. And through these incidents, he found himself with his first love, with it developing in his mid teens and leading with him until it tragically crashed down with the rest of his life. During the raid on the Yolbrin'Tau landcrawler, Auk'lin lost his mother in the explosion that disabled the vehicle. His father and uncle survived, with Uncle Yek being the other Sinta to venture back to Vihnmes territory in the scout plane to garner IAC assistance. Porsue, Auk'lin's father never recovered from the loss of his clansmen and his wife, currently living his life a distraught shell of his former self. Uncle Yek encouraging Auk'lin to branch off and strike out his own path to bring glory back to his new clan, to help establish a name for the refugees who are now absorbed in to Clan Vihnmes. But this conflicted greatly with his relationship with Kairoon, who thought abandoning Moghues was foolish, and that being manipulated by the stellar corporations would not bring glory to his name. Auk'lin vehemently disagreed, severing the relationship, seeing the stars as his only way to revive his faith in himself and to attempt to make the shell of his father proud in the man he is becoming. With a tearful goodbye to Sands Between Gardens, Helkma, Yek, and distantly, Kairoon, Auk'lin promised his swift return once he garnered the respectful reputation he believed he needed for his clan, to represent himself and his family of being worthy of being absorbed in to clan Vihnmes. As for hobbies, Auk'lin still holds a love for dice games, and is venturing in to more standard board games and table based war games, as the charm of playing dice on the streets of the Oasis is lost on board a space craft. Casual sports and other physical games also bring back happier memories of older times, but are slowly being phased from Auk'lin's pass times. Auk'lin has just recently been introduced to the concept of video games by a human Hephaestus worker who Auk'lin struck up a conversation with during orientation, and is currently looking in to the Heroes of Tau Ceti. A strange game about war heroes from a land he has never been to and hardly heard of. But hey, you can play as a Unathi in it, so that's pretty cool to him. Link to comment
