Why do you wish to play this specific race: I need the scaly to complete my furry.

All honesty, though, one of the most interesting things about Unathi is the rapid ticking clock on their homeworld and way of life. They’ve spread due to being forced to leave because of the growing wastes or Contact War. This interim period is what they’re all stuck in as they adapt to the human-dominated galactic political scene. 

 

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Generally, Unathi are much more like pack predators, on a societal level. You trust in your clan and their allies, and generally Unathi are more collectivist, sacrificing their own good for that of the clan. Power is also generally secured by outright violence and force more often. This is compounded by the fact that Unathi also live in desperate times. Their way of life is rapidly disintegrating, and they must adapt.

 

Character Name: Auk’razzi Kuhwinla

Please provide a short backstory for this character:

Auk’razzi Kuhwinla was born in Jaz’zirt in 2441. Her relatively happy and traditional childhood was cut short when her parents were killed in a collision with a vehicle, and she became a Guwan, taken in by the Kuhwinla orphanage guild. There, she participated in community life as much as she could, hoping to become an actress even if she couldn’t due to her Guwan status. She idolized the local Bard’s Guild chapter, even if they didn’t want her around. Eventually, they stuck her with a job as a stagehand to make her stop pestering them about helping, and she gladly got to work, helping with her first local production; a play about the River Court.

 

She did well enough, and she was tentatively allowed to work on a few more productions. Eventually, she graduated to minor roles and understudying, eventually peaking when she managed to have a supporting role in a production of “The Sorrows of the Lake” during the Bard’s Festival. But after this, she aged out of the orphanage without an adoption, and quickly took a position with NanoTrasen. She signed as an Assistant, and slowly worked her way through her first assignment, eventually gaining the Miranda Trasen Scholarship to NanoTrasen Academy, working towards a degree in Culinary Arts, which piqued her interest during her period as an assistant.

 

Auk’razzi made it through her studies steadily, making a few friends on the campus in Biesel, mostly humans and Unathi, and lived in a small apartment in Xinghua Prefecture. She took classes in drama on the side, although never considered going into it more seriously. After she gained her clan name, she joined with a fellow group of Unathi on campus to practice and discuss Th’akh. Once graduated with her degree, quickly jumped headfirst into her new assignment; the SCCV Horizon.

 

What do you like about this character?: Auk’razzi has interesting roleplaying opportunities, due to being a (former) Guwan, now with a clan name again. She occupies a strange space in the hierarchy where she was uplifted largely due to circumstances beyond her control, but has no support apparatus that a clan would provide. Additionally, her background gives her interests beyond ‘job’ and ‘location of birth’.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?: I think I do a good enough job of getting into character and remaining consistent! I generally don’t do shitter things and try to be realistic. Roleplay over mechanics every time.

+1! I trust Pocheto to write a Unathi well on many fronts, especially after interacting with them one too many times on Aurora. And also because they said they'd make a Drek'za.

The only thing I think you should expand upon is how religion plays a part in Unathi society/for Auk'razzi. It's a big part of who they are collectively. What does she believe in? How does it affect her?

1. How does her experience as a Guwan pre-2458, albeit one not responsible for her status, shape Auk'razzi's view of Guwan at large in the Hegemony? Does she hold sympathy for those named Guwan for their actual crimes?

2. The orphanage guilds are rather exploitative organisations, and an orphan will usually leave them with significant debt. Though the Kuhwinla generally don't accumulate as much debt as others, how does that debt impact Auk'razzi in her life aboard the Horizon?

3. As someone who's been living abroad for quite some time, how does Auk'razzi feel about recent events in the Hegemony - the big three being the arrival of the K'lax, the ascension of Not'zar as Hegemon, and the incorporation of the major guilds by Hephaestus?

Holy shit that was QUICK.

1. She doesn't usually hold sympathy for criminal Guwan. Her own beliefs are that the Hegemon was correct in dividing criminal class and those who were simply victims of circumstance. She may have some sympathy for those who seem genuinely regretful, however, but that's a rare case. Most of the time she treats them as your average Hegemony citizen.

2. She's grateful for the Kuhwinla not charging as much, and she sends a portion of her check to them each month. She tries to keep frugal, however, and has developed a habit of eating the scraps that others don't have when she's working, as it saves on meal costs. She takes great care to hide this from the higher-ups.

3. She's sympathetic to the K'lax! She feels like they have a similar situation to her, in some ways, being taken in by something greater from a terrible situation. Not'zar Izweski is something of a personal idol to her, as he gave her the social mobility upwards to finally succeed in ways she never could as a Guwan. The incorporation as of very recently is somewhat disturbing to her, as she hopes the Bard's Guild can continue work unmolested, but overall she supports the integration of galactic societies into each other.

It /ate/ my reply to this originally. Okay so th'akh, believes in river court, and is trying to intuit faith despite not having clan ancestors that she knows of. I had a longer thing written but I forgot it and it got eaten.
