Tomixcomics Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 (edited) This is "Spiral Soup" - Currently known as "Bluespace Tomato Soup". It is a bright blue soup that spins and emits the occasional flash of bright blue light. It is my favorite thing I ever made for the game. When I first created it - the thought behind it was that it was supposed to marry some of the most rare ingredients in the game and be challenging to make (at the time it was bluespace tomatoes and ice chilis) to make a super special, rare, high-end dish that had a good chance of being incredible, or a small chance of going wrong. Think a space-age equivilant to real-world fugue fish, where if you make it right - it's considered an exquisite high end dish, if you make it wrong - it's poisonous. Except I wanted something more fun and engaging - as well as to do with the bluespace nature of the dish - so the idea was it's a great dish if made "right", and if made wrong it has a small chance of having a negative side effect like a few seconds of paralysis (think like getting a vampire glare), or causing you to accidently teleport on a small, not-too-dangerous scale. In capable hands it's a super special elite dish, typically served in only select high end restaurants, prep it wrong and it can be a mild disaster. I even made two variants of the sprite - one to indicate a "correctly made" dish and an incorrectly made one (same sprite basically, but the incorrectly made one flashes more often), so both will look fine but have some kind of notable difference for experienced cooks to be able to tell a correctly made dish from an incorrectly made one. For a while, it basically was all that, after it was first implemented. At some point the code of the server got reworked or transferred to a new system or something, and somehow it got turned into "bluespace tomato soup". Ice chilis were removed from the recipe (which I guess I don't mind too much, since how often do you get Bluespace tomatoes and ice chilis in the same shift anyway), it no longer had variants. Instead, it now contains singulo and bluespace dust (which... i'm not quite sure what that even does besides making you feel unstable? I can't find info about it on the wiki), and when you eat it it says it tastes like soup and dense matter. Which... idk doesn't sound appealing or rewarding enough for a dish that's both really difficult to make and supposed to be kind of high end. If possible, i'd love to see it edited to reflect what I had imagined it as. Something high end, with a description that implies just how rare/fancy of a dish it is, results that are either really good (like making you feel calm/happy/elated/whatever, or some other crazy benefit, since it's bluespace), with the possibility of something bad (short stun, for example, maybe something else if you think it's more approrpiate). Maybe having other less-common-but-not-impossible-to-get ingredients thrown in the mix instead of the original idea of ice chili, like Guami or something. Right now it's basically just taking up space in the code, because without any actual benefits to the dish, and Bluespace tomatoes being considered both really difficult to accomplish as well as potentially dangerous - nobody's gonna go through the trouble of making it. So what is it I need basically? -I would love to see it renamed back into Spiral soup -The flavor being edited to taste like something that actually sounds... Good. -Description edited to make it clear this is a high end dish What I would also love to have included but is more optional: -Small chance of getting a different variant of the soup (with it's own sprite I already made) that has a negative effect of some kind (I really love the stun/teleport idea but if other people are against it it can be replaced with something else!) -Having it have some kind of positive effect on people - like a text prompt putting them in a good mood or something else that's positive. -Changing the recipe to include a less-frequently used ingredient, instead of the former ice chili I can do sprites and character for you art in return for your help! GeneralCamo Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/5907 These haven't changed since they were originally added by Alberyk in 2019. Did you originally add these earlier? I'm trying to build a history here so I can track if it was intentionally removed or not. Or possibly, in this case, never added in the first place. Quote
Tomixcomics Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 (edited) According to the file properties I created it way back in April 2015. I remember it took a very long time to be implemented since adding new food was low priority coding work for the admins but I don't know if it took 4 years. (This was also around the time I created Tuna Snax, by the way, which are still sold in the in-game vending machines, if that helps?) Edited October 11, 2023 by Tomixcomics Quote
GeneralCamo Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Yeah those were added in the same PR. It seems your intended ideas were never added, maybe due to being too much work or not elucidated at the time. I'm a bit busy with a few PRs open. But I might be interested in helping. Quote
Tomixcomics Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 Jeeze, took 4 years to implement? xD wow, guess I forgot that, then. If you could help i'd really appreciate that. I think it could add a lot of interest to have a food considered high-end in game, as well as create a bit of interaction between service and xenobotany, and perhaps an interesting unexpected tools int he hands of an antag.
