Chief Engineer (23/37)

Not quite, the purpose of this system is to prevent players from doing things that they think they could do, but administrative consensus in the rules says they can't. One thing though that is being experimented with, is allowing certain players the ability to try their best in the absence of qualified personnel. You will never be the ace pilot security officer, or the engineering whiz doctor, but maybe you could be a "good enough for this disaster" pilot, or a "well the hole is patched up even though it's ugly" doctor. This isn't allowable under our current rules because there is no mechanical basis to allow you to be a less-competent substitute; this system is planned to be that. Combat skills are probably the most important element here. The crew armory was removed because it didn't make sense for people who have no combat experience to be amongst the very best at dealing with the boarders. But it does make sense that in a true emergency when everyone in security is down or outgunned, that you grab a gun and at least defend yourself and your friends. This system would also allow that kind of roleplay to happen without running afoul of the rules or sense in the story.

This was brought up during development, specifically in regards to skrell's multiple degrees. It was decided to push back an expansion of education to handle this until the skills were fully implemented, lest the PR take forever with potential critical bugs or issues with skills themselves still lingering.

I suppose I am a bit confused as to why you rank something that you admit is boring, so highly. While ranking our gameplay compared to other servers is one thing (since we're all sprite-based RPGs at the end of the day), doing the same with lore is questionable. Aurora is one of the few HRP servers out there, and very few of the others have NT at all. This feels like comparing an apple to oranges, and the apple isn't very delicious.

I'd like to ask more on your thoughts on NanoTrasen as a whole, especially what you see as "well-written" and why they're A-tier on your list. You're correct that they're the most relevant corp in our setting, but to some this isn't the best thing. I wouldn't mind having more details on your opinions.

Honestly, in an emergency situation, I primarily care about their qualifications. The SCC can complain all they like about my appointment of a Plutonian to chief engineer, but when half the ship is vented and the rest of engineering is either drunk or vaurca, then I'm doing it anyway. I prefer not to die, thank you. And I'm sure the SCC would complain more about the loss of their valuable ship. That said, I agree with at least putting this into a central place. Say, the command forum that all command players have access to?

Kermit's Biesel/Megacorp Lore Writer Application
GeneralCamo replied to kermit's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Kermit has shown an excellent hand for leadership in the past. There is nothing but praise for the Crescent Expanse arc for a very good reason. When it comes to leading a new team, hiring deputies, outlining responsibilities and lanes, and working with other teams, there are very few people in the position I could see as being better than Kermit. As a bonus, they have directly hosted events relating to minor megacorp things during their tenure as deputy lore master, such as conventions. They have already shown they can integrate the megacorporate feel into the server. +1 -
Fully with @KingOfThePing and @FabianK3. As noted by @CatsinHD the issues with the FTC are being resolved differently. As such, I am voting to dismiss this suggestion.

Hello there! Thank you for the application! I have a few things to pose to you: I'm a bit concerned with your answer to how they roleplay differently. You focus exclusively on their different way of speaking. But this could conceivably be done with a human with a heavy accent, or a different non-english language that has a different pronouns system. I'd like to see a bit more detail on what makes a tajara, a tajara. You focus a lot on the instability of the PRA. Exactly where were you born on Adhomai? I don't see much on your character's personal life, such as your religious beliefs. How does your character feel on the gods? You seem to gloss over a lot of the issues the S’rand’marr Coalition had, such as the severe morale issues off-world troops experienced. How does your character feel about the NKA? And the DPRA? Being your character is now in the KOG, you'll inevitably be interacting with people from these areas. How would that go? How did you find your way to the KOG from the police work you did?

New Gun Sprites Feedback and OPINIONS
GeneralCamo replied to Arbiter_Ambrose's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
We are aware that the in-hands aren't matching with the new sprites. This will be resolved in time. However, "do[es] not fit the aurora vibe at all" and "I don't like them" isn't valid feedback. Being many of these sprites replaced were years old, and made by numerous different people, there is no clear style to many of them. Similar feedback was given for the 3/4ths sprite replacements, and it was dismissed for similar reasons. In addition, we have a standing policy to not perform reverts until a month after the PR has been merged. I would like you to elaborate on what, exactly, you do not like about them. Suggestions on modifications to sprites are perfectly welcome, and would not run afoul of that. -
Replace disruptors with ballistics - Feedback thread
GeneralCamo replied to TheGreyWolf's topic in Completed Projects
I'm personally against picking a sidearm. At best I would accept per-contractor sidearms, but picking and choosing defeats the intent of the uniform requirements, and brings us further away from a tight corporate setting, which has already been diluted enough for the Horizon. -
With two dismissals, and having been open for (more than) a week, this suggestion is being dismissed. Locking and archiving.
-
Please note we have methods to restrict these to one per antag without a high point requirement.

I originally agreed with this, coming from Baystation which had success with removing succumb. However, seeing the comments here has made me reconsider my position. I'd rather fix it than to remove it given the legitimate feedback on finishing stories. We can maybe rework it if it's too much of an issue. But I, too, vote for dismissal on this suggestion for the aforementioned reason.

The more I think about this, the more I oppose this. I'd rather disruptors get buffed than security having rubbers as a first-line (or worse, a stun gun in addition to ballistics). I'm withholding judgement until the test merge period is complete, as I could be wrong. But the idea of giving another starting gun to security is not something I'm willing to do at all.
