Robotic Potato
BYOND Key: Robotic Potato Character Names: Ozymandias, ISU-Discordance, Mai Nguyen, Irawo Adekeibudo Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Not sure yet, but a darker color. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had an interest in Skrell lore as well as the general archetypes the Skrell portray in our setting of the longer lived scientifically advanced communal society with a hint of authoritarianism mixed with psionic influences on the people and the interactions that can come from it. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell as a long lived species have a more long term perspective which can lead to seemingly apparent passiveness or lack of concern for short lived issue while long term concerns are given priority and can lead to anxiety. Skrell also have a communal nature that is especially influenced by their psionic nature and the strong influence it has on most of the species. Skrell's importance on bonds and relationships could also be seen different to humans in how some may seem abnormal but not particularly more 'complex'. Character Name: Xirmq Vix-Loxi Please provide a short backstory for this character Xirmq Vix being born on Qerr'Malic in 2206 was celebrated by a Quya of four. Though, as much was in the time of reconstruction it was not an ideal environment, this Quya was more of necessity, more akin to a group of especially close Qu'Kaax. While their birth was celebrated it was unquestionable that the stepping stone of Qerrbalak and the nascent Second Federation led to their relative loneliness and lack of peers as with many born during this time. Being raised at a time where the aftermath of Glorsh could still be felt Vix's family worked mostly as manual laborers during the reconstruction in hopes their child could focus on the pursuit of knowledge and during their Scuttling Schooling Vix was particularly sheltered and pushed towards study. As Vix moved towards the time of their Odurserr the restoration of much of Nralakk had enamored Vix who during the ceremony would burn a model freighter symbolizing their interest of travel of the stars. Following in to their Reefgardening Vix took an interest in the history of Qerr'Malic as a mining colony and its evolution to tourist destination and way point to the stars and its place in the reconnecting Federation. These interest would inspire Vix to study Astronavigation, Interplanetary Logistics and Supply, and Data Science which they would find themself completing their third degree in accordance with the hopes of Vix's family at 83. Vix would find their way to Nralakk Logistics which they found great pleasure in work on any vessel or fledgling outpost they could working positions from data analyst, logistics officer for smaller vessels, navigator, small craft pilot, and even working as a deck hand, Vix would be eager to please. While the work often wasn't a pursuit of the mind as Vix's family had hoped for Vix had grown especially proud with their work and its benefit to the Federation. As years came on and the Federation found stability and new life Vix found themself despite wariness of most aliens drawn to Zeng-Hu and extended their own trust in keeping with the Federation. In a leap Vix has taken leave of Nralakk Logistics to work within Zeng-Hu's own Federation based logistics division in the last 40 years. Vix has found some difficulty working with the influences from without the Federation but has found success in Zeng-Hu due to their experience with the Federation's supply chain. Vix's connection to the Federation and Qerr'Malic is deep but with Zeng-Hu's incorporation into the SCC Vix's nature to explore new places and challenges has led them to vie for a position as Operations Manager on the SCCV Horizon despite their limited experience outside the Federation. Tidbits: Vix is an Axiori, receiver leaning, a higher than average psionic proficiency but not enough to warrant attention as a potential Starkeeper or Sromkala, and a slight favor to over-sleeping. Vix took on the suffix of -Loxi from a skrell at Nralakk Logistics who worked reestablishing the arcology Vix came up in. They saw them as an example of the kind of impact someone could have in the world that wasn't particularly a traditional scientific or research field. Vix has a SCS of 6.21: they've been involved in multiple Quyas but none that managed to reproduce, they're supportive of the Federation and take pride in their past work directly to it, follows Qeblak, and hasn't made any particular scientific contribution to the Federation. Vix is generally outgoing and seeking of approval due to their relative loneliness and small extended family of the already small Quya they were born from. Despite Vix's tendency to roam they often try to return to Qerr'Malic and generally see not to be away for longer than a decade. They have some concern for the proliferation of Gasriders and its possible future effects and have a relatively positive opinion of NanoTrasen's work in the Economic Zone with a somewhat ambivalent view of Idris'. Vix has concern for C'thur, seeing a synthetic analog that the Federation has begun to take some reliance on in a short time with the Lii'dra being an example of how dangerous they could be. Vix's thoughts on Diona are generally respectful due to their proven trustworthiness and shared love for knowledge. Otherwise, Vix is hopeful but wary of the other species especially influenced by Tajara and Humanity's use of AI. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of playing a highly Federation invested Skrell who hasn't had any challenge to their ideals before in a more foreign environment. Despite being a Zeng-Hu employee for the last few decades I'd like to play them as as still having very limited interactions with humans and most other aliens outside of the Federation. The idea that while they're cautious of most aliens they're also deeply a people person with a drive as a people-pleaser which might open them up to act despite their caution. This is more skrell in general not but I like the idea of roleplaying as a longer lived character, and more on the character level one who's lived through the aftermath of the Glorsh and came up in a time of struggle but also lived on to rebuilding the Federation and how their experience might inform character interactions. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 1 Notes:hi Edited November 25, 2023 by WhatsUpBrotendo Link to comment
meep109
Thanks for applying! This is a pretty good app and covers most of the bases, but I have two questions for you. 1. How would Xirmq treat synthetics they find on the Horizon? 2. For their coming of age ceremony, or their Odurserr, what gifts did they recieve from their Qrri'Myaq? For their coming of age ceremony, or their Odurserr, what gifts did they recieve from their Qrri'Myaq? 1. Having of course knowledge of Zeng-Hu's usage of synthetics they've so far also tried to keep their work inside of the Federation to minimize and interaction. That being said Xirmq obviously with knowledge of the Horizon going in knows it makes use of an AI and shipbound synthetics among the SCC and the rest of its companies employment of free or otherwise IPCs. Taking this knowledge into account they're certainly not unprepared but interactions would certainly lean to amiable but cold or when possible avoidance or ignoring. If a synthetic were to offer assistance they'd likely try to avoid it and seek other means of assistance if it was needed. 2. Despite the tendency for Axiori to be more focused towards traditional labor Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq was especially hopeful for them to find a more scientific of research. The theme of most of the gifts presented was to inspire awe in the Universe and space and Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq would present a collection of imagery and data on stars to encapsulate the desire of their study. Xirmq found a deeper resonance of purpose with the freighter model presented and notably chose a different path, but this direction of Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq would still inspire their first field of study: Astronavigation.
