Stripes Posted August 17 Posted August 17 BYOND Ckey: TheStripes Discord username: weakestcreature Character names: Vien Xuan Pham - Shaft Miner Insang Mahinay - Chemist Species you are applying to play: Skrell ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character? A darker red (#742A2A) - basing off of the usual spectrum of colors for Axiori. Can be made lighter or more washed out if it falls out of the usual range. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for? Yes. Why do you wish to play this species? Skrell's species history and culture are very detailed, having a myriad of responses to their own historical events within their collective backstory and within the current played timeline. How they came to propagate themselves from a trio of rivaling countries on Qerrbalak to the current post Glorsh-Omega Nralakk Federation was a fascinating read into their modern culture, as well as putting context to their state of affairs. Their relationship with psionics puts them wildly apart from most other species in the Spur, and functions in a way that adds a very interesting complication into how they usually come off as somewhat emotionless despite being very much on the contrary. Most of the Skrell characters I've seen are all interesting in how they've come from their original culture to the Horizon, with what they had brought with them and how they react when coming into contact with other cultures that asks them to adapt or hold to their traditions and holding to the ideals of their watchful home nation. It was compelling enough to make me want to try and write my own character as well. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human? Being primarily from a society that focuses on upholding a set of ideals, Skrell stepping outside of the Federation's borders come off as being almost impossible to read emotionally with an equally alien logic. Despite having developed a secondary language to make up for the shortcomings of being relatively expressionless, their own decision making causes most non-Skrell to consider them totally inscrutable when not breaking down their reasoning directly. Outside of their exterior, Skrell are deeply emotional, being physically and psionically intimate alongside a myriad of terms dedicated to outlining their relationships with others in the form of Qu/Lu. Even temporary friends or coworkers are valued deeply between each other, and the functions of the Nlom, Srom, and J'ox'a keeping an unmatched level of interconnection. Both their outer and inner workings make them fascinating to consider how Skrell interact in the game itself, and operating with this level of complexity that often struggles to survive contact with other cultures that ask for more readable and faster responses than what they've become used to as a longer-lived species. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Alusuxa Morooi Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Born in the Contact Era on 14'viq of Avroxi-qog, 2383-oqq, Alusuxa Morooi was second of two in a successful clutch by a Quya of six members at the time of their hatching. An Axiori of average psionic ability and afflicted with Xibus, they were recognized as a Receiver and mentored by their Qrri'Myaq found during their Aqi'qa - Nilqeva Qrivul'avix, a member of the Quya, but not the F'ex'Qa or F'ex'Tra. Alusuxa was promptly inducted into Ukutanii for the first three decades of their life in the middle depths of Qerr'wesi, generally taking to academics and their Quya well. A shift in Alusuxa's family resulted in the departure of two members, granting them and their Qraa'myaqq, Eerdex Parzul'ouna, brief moments of independence in their otherwise tightly-led raising that resulted in a small, but troublesome, rebellious streak. They underwent their coming of age ceremony at the age of thirty two, burning a gifted tea set in the hope of it leading them to a more refined future. Untuk'mak was met with some difficulty for Alusuxa, academically behind their sibling despite sharing the same interest in varied learning. Finding an interest in agricultural science and culinary practices, they spent roughly twenty five years honing their education, though their sibling moved on to Uyi'vesi five years before they graduated. Alusuxa was noted for their work ethic and devotion in the fields that captured their interest, though this focus caused trouble in maintaining a well-rounded education deemed acceptable by their academic counselors. Finding a proper university in Eriuyushu for their burgeoning agricultural industry, they dedicated the next twenty years garnering two degrees: one in culinary arts, the other in agronomy. By the end of their education in 2460, they moved on to find work and promptly found opportunity in the State-Owned Enterprise of Qel’Zvol Hospitality, though the prospect of becoming a professional chef fell somewhat short of their original ambitions. Alusuxa Morooi's career path revolved around working in the service and tourist industries, primarily working in established restaurants and within resorts. Originally employed as a professional chef for restaurants frequented by Primaries in the higher depths of Qerr'wesi, they eventually moved to Qerr'Malic at the behest of Qel'Zvol's management of the moon's immense tourism industry. As an independent adult, Alusuxa feels left in the shadow of their more successful sibling in spite of keeping connections with their family, and sits within the the Ix bracket of the social credit system at a 5.29 due to Srom-induced oversleeping, and quietly enjoying some pieces of the counterculture art wave from other younger Skrell. They have developed political sentiments leading towards progressive symbiosis, but ultimately still identifies with the United Federation party due to the opinions of their peers and family. Catching wind of the Work Initiative Program in 2464 and seeing it as an opportunity to broaden their horizon and knowledge in the long term, they reached out to transfer their contract from Qel'Zvol Hospitality in their partnered corporation of Idris, being eventually chosen, trained, and shipped out of the Federation from Qerr'Malic on 2466. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. While cushioned from some of the impact of the events of Phoron scarcity and the collapse of the Solarian Alliance due to their residence being in the Homeworld territories, the cultural shockwaves from the Independent Traverser Movement and the mass migration of Skrell to Tau Ceti left Alusuxa with an uncomfortable confirmation. Despite the Nralakk Federation's immensity and power, it was from an insurmountable monolith. While far from actively harboring rebellious sentiments, Alusuxa ultimately recognized that the subversive elements they've been taught to shun weren't completely without merit. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Alusuxa is ultimately very thankful to have Qel'Zvol and Idris Incorporated partnership be a gateway to furthering their current career and academic field. In spite of the sometimes less than glamorous venues they've been expected to work in, they are far from vocalizing any negativity due to the chance afforded to them as an otherwise nearly lower Secondary. Less outwardly spoken, they are glad to have an opportunity to see the worlds beyond their horizons out of a mild enthusiasm for other cultures and their culinary practices, and hope this time abroad will prove enriching in the next many decades. 2
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Hi, thanks for applying. I can't see anything of concern in the app itself, but I will point out that Skrell body colours aren't heavily restricted. What's on the wiki is more of a baseline for natural colourations, but Skrell can be whatever they like within reason. Other than that I have a few questions: How does Alusuxa feel about Diona and Vaurca? How does Alusuxa feel about Skrell born outside of the Federation? How does Alusuxa feel about Humanity/other species in the Spur, particularly the idea of working with them while abroad? What is their job going to be on the Horizon?

What's on the wiki is more of a baseline for natural colourations, but Skrell can be whatever they like within reason. Thank you, I'll keep that in mind! As for the questions: How does Alusuxa feel about Diona and Vaurca? Alusuxa finds Vaurca to be a mostly welcomed addition, having been around to see their integration into Skrell society at large along with their presence on Qerr'malic. Their stereotypes from their activities on the Second Surface, along with some apprehension towards the concept of Cephalons and the Hivenet, have had some effect on their opinion towards them. Otherwise, Alusuxa appreciates Vaurca generally - both as a species, culture, and what they do for their home. Diona are equally held in a generally positive light in their eyes, but finds their activities on Xrim and the recent dealings with the Golden Deep and Hieroaetheria to be something kept in mind. Their unique biology and structure are otherwise very interesting to them, finding them just as uniquely interesting as Vaurca. How does Alusuxa feel about Skrell born outside of the Federation? Skrell born outside of the Federation are mostly seen as neutrally hopeful in Alusuxua's eyes - wanting the best for them in spite of the events of the Traverser Movement and the mass migration to Biesel being fraught with concerns on how they view the Federation at large. Being born outside of the culture Skrell have almost universally being raised in, however, does leave them wondering on how they'll begin to develop in the coming generations. How does Alusuxa feel about Humanity/other species in the Spur, particularly the idea of working with them while abroad? Alusuxa finds general human culture interesting, and sees humanity (particularly the Solarian Alliance and the Republic of Biesel, but still broadly) as friends and protégés for Skrellkind as they grow in the Spur together. With Unathi, they can't help but feel more of a sense of regret towards the actions taken during the Contact War and the resulting devastation of Moghes - wishing that the actions the Federation took didn't contribute towards the conflict despite being too young to have any real impact when it occurred. They want to hopefully find common ground with their Unathi coworkers, if nothing else but to try and make small amends. Alusuxa regards Tajara with a strict amount of neutrality, primarily out of a lack of knowledge towards their culture, and the current political climate on Adhomai affecting them broadly. Not to say that they would avoid them in the workplace, but they may end up becoming more inquisitive and cautious of what they say if the topic rises. Finally, Alusuxa finds synthetics still somewhat off-putting, but has less resentment that's the usual for the newest generations of Skrell - due to distance from Glorsh and an assumed assurance that human AI wouldn't be able to achieve that level of power as Glorsh did. Despite this, the culture shock of working among sapient robots will still take time for them to adjust. What is their job going to be on the Horizon? Alusuxa is currently employed in the Horizon's service department as a chef, as was their original position within Qel'Zvol Hospitality. Their agricultural science degree is less applicable to the Horizon (and for the sake of avoiding jobhopping), and will see use at most during when they have to grow their own ingredients.
