Stripes Posted Saturday at 00:08 Posted Saturday at 00:08 (edited) The Expeditionary radio channel/:d is really useful, and is on just about every shipside headset. This is a massive boon for odysseys and just for arranging away trips. However, it's also starting to turn into Common radio 2, sometimes. It's not too often that it's to the point of being egregious, but it seems like the channel can, because everyone has access to it, sometimes pour over into just being a brighter-colored common radio channel. I can't really think of any feasible way to restrict it without banishing it to the handheld realm or making it a separate headset encryption key that just spawns in the hangar in a neat pile or box, but I think making it a more purposeful choice for you to listen into would be nice. EDIT: Actually, people have been saying it'd be much simpler to just have the Expeditionary channel start toggled off. That sounds way better. Edited Saturday at 00:13 by Stripes someone (multiple people) had a way better solution Quote
pocheto Posted Saturday at 00:12 Posted Saturday at 00:12 My two cents, I think making it an encryption key that spawns in the Intrepid in boxes might be nice, along with giving it automatically to certain people (mining, command, etc). Quote
Powder Miner Posted Saturday at 00:12 Posted Saturday at 00:12 I do agree for the reason that expeditionary is now a LOT less useful for mining while in range of comms... it was a nice way to have winding casual conversations and RP while mining, but now doing so will mean the ENTIRE crew has to listen to it. greenjoe Posted Saturday at 00:13 Posted Saturday at 00:13 being able to toggle it via the command consoles would be neat, similar to how maint access can be toggled Quote
Noble Row Posted Saturday at 00:14 Posted Saturday at 00:14 Yeah PLEASE just have it start off. I turn it off almost the instant someone talks on it if I'm not apart of an expedition. 3 Quote
hazelmouse Posted Saturday at 00:26 Posted Saturday at 00:26 We should avoid making it tied to handhelds or to encryption keys, expeditionary being made a regular channel was specifically to avoid the busywork for expeditions and odysseys. It makes large expeditions easier to execute without people inevitably forgetting something they need to communicate properly in the hangar. I'd also prefer to avoid it starting disabled so the people that do want to hear it don't constantly have to remember to re-enable the channel every time they join a round. Speaking personally, I'd totally forget to do so and then miss communications I'd have liked to receive. 7 minutes ago, Powder Miner said: I do agree for the reason that expeditionary is now a LOT less useful for mining while in range of comms... it was a nice way to have winding casual conversations and RP while mining, but now doing so will mean the ENTIRE crew has to listen to it. I'm not sure if there's a very good solution for this, making the channel more open is good for odysseys but will always remove the personal flair a private channel has. The best idea I'd have would be to agree on your own frequency to use with your fellow miners, maybe add a secret additional expeditionary channel for private use? Quote
Jasorn Posted Saturday at 18:05 Posted Saturday at 18:05 Yeah just default it off, the headache part was 90% of the crew saying "uhh whats the frequency again..?" As for mining, in my experience people would just pick some random frequency to use, but generally everyone agreed to use the expedition one for the fancy color and consistency between rounds. Picking a random frequency is still an option miners can agree on, that or just talk in operations radio and annoy the hangar techs and machinists lol 2 Quote
