lynxqueen Posted April 30 Posted April 30 BYOND Ckey: LynxQueen Discord username: LynxQueen Character names: Primarily Za’Akaix’Zhul C’thur and Ka’Akaix’Nkruu Zo’ra but also Za’Akaix’Kir Zo’ra and Rak’Akaix’Teth K’lax Species you are applying to play: Tajara ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Khazan Rock Grey (RGB 30, 30, 30. Hex #1e1e1e) Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Of course Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: I think the Tajara are really interesting. They’re certainly a different take on feline species than I’m used to. I love seeing the other Tajara roleplayers interact. The dynamics between them are very fun to watch, and I think it’d be very enjoyable to dive into them as well. Not to mention their rich lore which is still very ongoing with no stagnation in sight. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: The obvious example is their society. It’s very different from modern (in terms of Aurora) human society. They’ve only recently broken away from their entrenched nobility of thousands of years. A caste system that has ruled them for just as long. Now they are free from it, and struggling internally with immense factionalism and ideals, fully ready to point the gun at one another again despite the immense loss of life from their first revolution. Their story and society is one humans have experienced at the end of the 19th century and going into the 20th century. Modernization and global revolutions. As on Aurora you can play just about any Tajaran faction, one keeps in mind the relationship between them. I would not say they are all too different to humanity in that regard, at least compared to other aliens, and are probably the most human-like out of Aurora’s aliens. (I’m not counting IPCs since they were, of course, made by humans.) Biologically, there are quite some differences as well. Tajara are a furred, digitigrade species with tails. Their tails in particular are significant, as they are used in many of their languages, and even some instruments. Their fur is another key feature, as it has kept them warm through the ages on Adhomai’s freezing surface, though outside of Adhomai, their sturdiness of the cold has left them vulnerable to more temperate climates humans are accustomed to. Their legs and feet render them incompatible with human footwear as well, though this hasn’t led to many issues as they can simply wear different shoes. Additionally, their eyes and ears are more attuned compared to humans, being more sensitive for their ears and their eyes allowing much better dark vision, much like our furry companions on Earth. Vocally they have a tendency to roll their r’s when speaking, though where with humans its a regional thing, for Tajara its all of them. Tajaran ethnicities are also a bit different from human ethnicities, whereas with humans you’ll have global/regional differences, its far more rigid globally with Tajara as their ethnicities are based upon their caste, which has led to the same few ethnicities showing up all over Adhomai rather than distinct regions. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Rikran’khan Jri’chur (Full: Rikran’khan Nal’tor Ahk’dra) Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Rikran’khan Nal’tor Ahk’dra was born on Adhomai to two loving Zhan-Khazan parents in the city of Nal’tor in 2442, five years before the second revolution would start to begin. Her childhood would be cut short by the war, unfortunately, and her father left for the fight against the Liberation Army. At age sixteen, she and her mother would receive news that her father was killed in action in the Battle of Ron’tul in 2458, and as consequence, Rikran’khan seeked additional work to assist her griefstruck mother. It would not last, however, as her mother would likewise find her grave in the Nal’tor bombardment of 2461 by the Royal Navy when she was nineteen. Furious at the loss of her parents, Rikran’khan found work in the PRA’s war machine as a machinist, fixing combat exosuits and prosthetics for the Republican Army. She survived the war, but not without the scars that come with it. After the end of the war, she took up civilian mechanics, working in a shop until yet another tragedy struck her life. While working on an exosuit, an improper procedure was done by one of her coworkers. It shifted, pinning Rikran’khan down and crushing her right leg, arm, and her spine. She was saved, and survived, but now entirely crippled. Her solution to the problem would be to take several loans from Idris for prosthetics, restoring her ability to move and work. But such loans are difficult to pay off, so she looked beyond Adhomai. For the first time in her life, she would leave. Finding work with Hephaestus Industries, she took to the stars, content to work most of her life away from her home. As a person, Rikran’khan is a quiet person. Despite this, she’s an avid gambler in misled attempts to further pay her debts. She has an excellent work ethic, dutifully doing her job with no complaints. Life has made her rugged and jaded, and she doesn’t trust anyone in the DPRA and NKA. She drinks, she smokes, she gambles, she cries. Rikran’khan is an immensely broken woman who hides it well. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Immensely. The Tajaran revolution and cold war have shaped her perspective a lot. While she didn’t particularly care about world politics in her youth, the loss of her parents changed that. While she has some disagreements with the PRA, and is a member of the Young Hadiists and believes in reformation of the government to be better than it is, she is dead set in seeing it as the only government on Adhomai. The DPRA and NKA should be defeated and absorbed in her eyes. A unified Adhomai is the only future. The Phoron Scarcity hasn’t made things any better back home either, despite the PRA’s alternative technologies. To her, it’s only a matter of time before war begins again. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? A means to an end, really. Hephaestus pays decently enough to keep Idris collections off her back, while keeping her plenty busy. She doesn’t particularly have any immense loyalty to the alien corporation, but she doesn’t have any reason to spit at them either. It’s an amicable relationship. 1
pictish20 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I've played many rounds with LynxQueen's vaurcae and their player consistently demonstrates deep engagement with the lore and commitment to roleplay. I don't doubt that this will transfer to Tajara, and they would be a great addition to the whitelisted players. +1 1
CatsinHD Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Thank you for applying! Some questions regarding the application: What religion does Rikran'khan follow? What led Rikran'khan to choose Idris for gaining prosthetics over the Tesla prosthetics? What disagreements does Rikran'khan have with the Party that lead to her stance as a Young Hadiist? How did these disagreements form? What are her views on the DPRA/ALA and NKA? How did those views form? 1

1) S'rendarr and Messa, I'd say, though it isn't a huge part of her every day life. These days she is very much closer to Messa to process her loss and grief, though she does not shirk against S'rendarr. Personally, she believes her life to be under Messa's influence of S'rendarr's. Her faith waned in her youth due to tragedy, and her focus on work lessened her devotion over the year as she concerned herself with material matters all the more. 2) Whoops, a small misunderstanding here. I forgot to mention tesla at all outside of my head. Writer's error. She has tesla prosthetics, but used Idris loans to purchase them. Sorry about that! 3) Like other Young Hadiists, she views the authoritianism as distasteful, and believes there's a better way forward. Oppression led to the first revolution, so war may continue unless the PRA finds a brighter future. Ultimately, the PRA is far better than the DPRA and NKA in Rikran'khan's eyes. They are retreading the grounds of oppression with their treatment of the Zhan is a major contributing factor for her disregard of Orthodox teachings, betraying the ideas of equality and removal of the castes. If the PRA is to move forward from the past, it's relaxation of iron might against the civilian populace must absolutely be relaxed. "Ideology without deviation" simply doesn't work. It didn't work for the millennia spanning nobility, it won't work for the PRA. You *must* adapt, or you will fail. The PRA is headed towards a swift decline if it finds itself unwilling or unable to reform into a more suitable governing body. 4) Her views over the DPRA/ALA and NKA are low. Not outright hostility, but she doesn't trust them at all. They are both responsible for the death of her parents during the second revolution, so she doesn't particularly hold either in high regard. She may find greater issue with those that were part of the ALA or the Royal Navy, since both groups were directly responsible for the events. She ideologically opposes NKA the most, since it is just a rehash of the oppressive nobility, and the DPRA are a bunch of lawless rebels who seem to want to dismiss all kinds of needed order from Adhomai. Both are wrong.
CatsinHD Posted May 5 Posted May 5 After deliberation with the team and some time pondering things, I must sadly reject this application. You may reapply in 3 days. While there is a good foundation for the character here, the application and supplemental answers don't show a strong sense that the lore has been grasped completely. While we don't demand a long character backstory, some elements overall read as off. The main areas I would point to are various cultural touchstones of Tajara: Religion, the castes, etc. I'm giving the minimum wait period as I doubt a longer one is needed, however I would suggest taking time to reread some key pages and sections, let the lore simmer. For areas to focus on: culture, life off Adhomai, the corporate situation on Adhomai. If you would like, there are plenty who would be willing to help out with questions on the lorecord. Myself and the rest of the team have open DMs as well.
