Discussion: Violence in quarry quelled by Free Guard. Acceptable use of force? NTranslate Active: Siik’maas >> Tau Ceti Basic. Brought to you by NanoTrasen Corporation! Warning: Your copy is not validated with a license! - NEW MESSAGES - :Auto-mod: Yesterday, the Free Guard reported violence in tunnel 6B. Upon arrival, two Tajara were being assaulted by another group. Free Guard intervened, and were faced with a violent response. In attempting to stop the violence, one guardsman drew his service pistol and fired twice, fatally injuring one of the four assaulting Tajara. Trial occurred early today, resulting in the prosecution of the guardsmen, and three of the four assaulting Tajara. The guardsman has been stripped of position and brigged. The three assaulting Tajara await determination of punishment. :M1nder: Bro that’s fucked up. Hephaestus Industries Strengthens Contracts with Orbital Navy, Ministry of Economy 22.04.2468 Following the concerning developments originating from the regressive Kingdom’s lands, Hephaestus Industries approached the Party regarding the numerous contracts presently signed between the Republic and the industrial giant. A debate was sparked among Party officials regarding potential dependencies with off-world corporations, notably those with a need for phoron. NanoTrasen Corporation, the main off-world contractor for the Republic, has seen a stagnation and, recently, a decline in operations within the Republic. The Biesel-based corporation has since resolved to expand mining and research operations with the Party to counteract this trend. This stands in contrast to many concerns brought up by Hephaestus Industries during the industrial contractor meeting this week. The industrial giant noted concerns with the infrastructural demands required to ensure efficient operations within S’rand’marr. The mineral wealth of Adhomai and the system have, by their admission, been inefficiently extracted, in spite of the record high output of the various extraction industries. In trying to resolve this issue, Hephaestus Industries noted a need to strengthen the contract with the Ministry of Economy, increasing Hephaestus operations within S’rand’marr and streamlining logistics. This offers cheaper and better operations overall, as compared to a diverse contractor base, such as splitting engineering operations between Hephaestus, domestic companies, and Ingkom. Recent examples, as provided by Hephaestus, would be the Mercantile Flotilla, the Kingdom’s claim to a space fleet. Inefficiencies in a divided contractor base, especially as Ingkom and Zavodskoi Interstellar make an entry into the Kingdom’s market, result in a much lower output of resources, goods, and economic growth. The exact details of initial offers made during the meeting remain undisclosed by request of Hephaestus Industries and the Party. However, the final results have been approved for release. The notable aspects of the new series of contracts to be signed with the industrial corporation is with the Orbital Navy. As part of the Ministry of Defense’s efforts to reduce operating costs of the Fleet, Hephaestus Industries will be signed on as a corporate partner in shipyard, maintenance, and weapon system operations. Sharing this position with the remaining NanoTrasen Corporation contracts, and renewing shipbuilding operations, Hephaestus will be working alongside the Ard’iin Kosmoshumtra, the People’s Space Station, in future operations, ideally reducing costs by nearly an eighth. Additional contracts were signed with the Ministry of Economy for the streamlining of Hephaestus Industries expansion into the resource extraction, light manufacturing, and industrial research sectors. Twenty new factories are expected to be constructed within Tampiska, Al’mari, Nal’tor, and B’urr as part of these contracts, as well as an expansion of workforce vacancies to shore up labor surplus within the urban districts. Multiple universities have since approached Hephaestus Industries on future sponsorships and collaborations within academic labs, further bolstering the Republic’s research sector. Concerns of over-dependence on off-world corporations was a noted concern among Party officials during the meeting. Despite a willingness within the Ministries to collaborate with external partners, Sub-Ministers within the Ministry of Economy noted the concerns regarding a possible recession should reliance on phoronic supply lines be expanded further. While domestic industries are not to the scale of the off-world corporations, an additional point was made that with the current labor surplus, vast expansions in domestic industries to shrink the gap would assist in Party goals to eliminate the labor surplus. Some voices raised concerns that strengthening contracts with Hephaestus Industries would all but eliminate opportunities for other external partners to enter the Republic’s market, locking in a partnership with the industrial corporation. However, following discussions among upper-Party officials, the decision to continue with strengthening ties with Hephaestus was approved, so long as it was in partnership with domestic industries. Corporations in Turmoil! Hephaestus Ends Operations, Zavodskoi Takes Up the Slack! 19.04.2468 Turmoil today in the industrial sectors as Hephaestus Industries makes a scene of the recent agreements made between the Njarii Azunja and Zavodskoi Interstellar. The dispute centers around the introduction of the weapons manufacturer following Her Majesty’s decision regarding the supplier of her Royal Guard soon after the controversy of the Crown Government's response to a longtime Hephaestus Industries partner, the Izweski Hegemony. The primary contractor, Zavodskoi Interstellar, alongside Royal Firearms and Morozian Imperial Armaments Conglomerate, have been chosen to design, manufacture, and supply the Raaktiye Pretnarii. Numerous businesses across the Kingdom have since approached the interstellar corporation regarding contracts, notably resource extraction sites and mills seeking the lucrative contracts supplying materials for the corporation’s manufacturing efforts. This has produced friction with Hephaestus Industries, a long-time competitor to Zavodskoi Interstellar, which has come to a head recently. Closed-door discussions occurred between the Crown Government and industrial partners recently, at the request of Hephaestus Industries. Reportedly, grievances with the direction of the Crown Government in regards to corporate partners would create unnecessary inefficiencies in the system, at the detriment of Hephaestus and the Kingdom. However, sufficient testimony from domestic industrial leaders alongside the promises of NanoTrasen, Idris, and Zavodskoi put a strong rebuttal to the industrial giant both in the claim of inefficiencies and in the concerns of higher costs incurred on the Kingdom’s budget. According to economists, Hephaestus-run operations have seen stagnation. Costs associated with maintaining Hephaestus equipment present prevent domestic nobility from taking over their operations. As a result, the lack of pressure to maintain competitiveness has seen stagnating output and economic drives from the corporation. NanoTrasen Corporation has promised further expansion of resource extraction operations, however manufacturing remains a tenuous industry with the unreliability of phoron supply and costs needed in building up the supporting infrastructure within the Kingdom. Since being selected for the Royal Guard contract, Zavodskoi has begun the investment and construction of multiple factories, facilities, and logistics structures required to start production. Interest in contracts with the Imperial Army, Royal Firearms, and Mercantile Flotilla have been expressed by representatives of the corporation and its subsidiary, Ingkom. While no additional contracts have been signed as of yet, according to representatives of the Crown Government and the corporation, talks are active across numerous industries and fields. Hephaestus Industries, according to corporate representatives, has declared the New Kingdom a ‘hostile environment’ towards their continued operations. Many executives had concerns following the Kingdom’s response to the tearing down of the Izweski nobility by their fraud Karszekan, a noted response against a long-term partner with the industrial giant. However, Hephaestus contracts remained active within the Kingdom. It has only been in recent developments that the corporation has made the final decision and declared the New Kingdom a toxic operational environment, electing to cease operations within the Kingdom and cut losses. In the coming weeks, all citizens holding contracts within Hephaestus Industries are on notice of termination. Operations within the Kingdom have begun ramping down, with equipment being shipped out and offers available for any wishing to take over their soon-to-be terminated industries. Zavodskoi Interstellar and Ingkom have collectively come forward, offering to take on those contracts that will be terminated by Hephaestus, offering competitive pay and benefits for any willing to transition to the new corporation. Right now the point distribution feels off. For example: If I were to sum it up. It feels like I either have too many points to spend or not enough. 8 points for occupational either covers your entire job or barely gets you the skills you need. In many cases, it feels like you can cover your primary skill, but supporting skills you'd expect out of a role get unnecessarily restricted or sidelined because your job has other requirements. See surgeons needing robotics to cut open hardsuits, which is such a fundamental procedure even paramedics are permitted it on the surgery table. This may be the intent, but to echo a friend "Like essentially the root of my problem is that it feels restrictive rather than permissive... You're taking gameplay opportunity out of a sever that already is noted to have issues with gameplay engagement..." Either this requires a shift in how skills affect gameplay (which is impossible in some cases) or leads us to something like being able to transfer skills from every-day or combat. I'm not totally sure on an answer for that. However I can agree that, ftmp, it feels like many roles are very stretched thin in terms of skills and what they are expected to perform. That might also be a server culture shift, idk.

Hadjuk Accuses K’marr of Smuggling, Disloyalty 13.04.2468 Tensions flared among the Rhaza-Akhranra today following an official declaration from Amohda’s Rhaza-Akhran Rahman Hadjuk. From the provincial seat on Amohda, a series of communications were transmitted to ALA command and the National Assembly with a list of grievances and promises of evidence regarding the activities of the Din’akk’s Rhaza-Akhran Alexeii K’marr. According to staffers in the Hadjuk command structure, this communication comes after a series of arrests at Amohdan ports preventing, among others, smugglers from entering the island’s market with illicit goods. As part of the Rhaza-Akhran’s efforts to stamp out Royalist sentiments in the rebellious island, unregistered goods have become a focal point for ALA soldiers. These efforts have gone as far as the unannounced searches of warehouses across the island, searching for any materials that could supply the Royalist resistance to liberation. These efforts have reportedly done well in the region, with anti-liberation attacks and dissent down to record lows since Rhaza-Akhran Hadjuk was instated. The communique details a number of grievances from Amohda regarding the Din’akkii commander. However, much of this list can be condensed into two major claims: Smuggling Disloyalty to the Liberation According to Hadjuk and Amohdan staffers, a number of illicit goods entering Amohda can be traced back to the Southern Harr’masirr’s glacial border. However, missing proof marks and unfinished manifests suggest that such shipments are not arriving from factories and warehouses from Muhr’fal’s territories. As the Southern Harr’masir region has no spaceports to supply such items, it must be arriving through illegal vessels landing within ALA territories, a fact that was noted as particularly upsetting following the razing of an Al’mariist village in the Din’akk by xeno-corporations. In this same claim, Hadjuk points to the nature of such a vessel having landed in the Din’akk to begin with as a clear sign that such landings can take place with little to no prior detection, unlike the open lands of Southern Harr’masir where such landings would be impossible without detection by ALA radar or scouting reports. Therefore, the illegal goods entering Amohda, threatening ALA control on the island, and disrupting the liberation must be coming from the Din'akk Khaztra, facilitated by Rhaza-Akhran K’marr. In doing so, the Rhaza-Akhran proves disloyalty to Nated and the Liberation, and must be removed from power immediately. The extensive report was received by ALA command and the National Assembly. So far, no actions have been taken by either structure. The lack of comment thus far from Supreme Commander Nated has placed the situation in a precarious position as Hadjuk has reportedly begun mustering troopers on the island. Rhaza-Akhran Muhr’fal has not commented on the matter officially, beyond a warning that right of passage will not be provided for Amohdan troopers given concerns of further skirmishes within Southern Harr’masir territory, a disruptive occurrence for the local economy. During the National Assembly session, a number of voices were heard across the chamber regarding the report. Among the many present, Rhaza-Akhranra K’marr and Muhr’fal were both present via holoconference, however as Assemblyman Hahrmaq noted, Rhaza-Akhran Muhr’fal seemed to be riding a zhsram for the duration of the session. Dominating the voices was Ex-interim President Brajrr Alnadruskiy. Brajrr called for caution in approaching the situation. The nature of the matter must address potential collaboration with xeno-organizations, however in doing so threatening the security of the Din’akk’s administration should be chief concern. Many voices called for delaying any action, instead waiting for a decision from Supreme Commander Nated, claiming that only he can truly ascertain the situation and address it in a sufficient way. President Almrah Harrlala strongly disagreed with these calls, stating that a response must be given by the civilian government, or else it has no right to stand. She declared the promise for her administration to draft a response, awaiting further details and evidence from Rhaza-Akhran Hadjuk. Rhaza-Akhran K’marr promised a swift rebuttal to the supposedly slanderous claims of Hadjuk. Today's most popular articles: Latest updates on power grid construction. Zavodskoi Interstellar Chosen for Royal Guard 11.04.2468 Queen Shumaila Azunja has contacted the Royal Telegraph to officially announce the winner of the Royal Guard contract. The candidates were presented some time ago at the Kaltir Imperial Palace during a day-long event. Proposals took up the entire spectrum, from reliable options based on proven traditions to radically new designs. Included in the candidacy list were off-world corporations. Following what many Njarii Azunja and Crown government staffers call an “intense decision making process”, Zavodskoi Interstellar was chosen for the new Royal Guard contract. The corporation is an unfamiliar sight on Adhomai, let alone the Kingdom. The Moroz-based company is a large player in the Spurian arms manufacturing market. For many years, Adhomai was not on the map for the megacorporation. However, the recent economic effects across the Spur have seen the arms giant contact national companies such as Royal Firearms. These efforts have thus far not resulted in any investments. NanoTrasen Corporation and Hephaestus Industries, the primary corporations involved in manufacturing across the Kingdom, have left little room in the market. However, that market was nearly a decade ago. The record growth seen in these lands have left a space for the arms manufacturer who now has a foothold with the Royal Guard. The final design set forth by the contract echoes much of the original presented during the conference. Uniforms and armor balance the mobility that remains a hallmark of warfare with the protection of advanced human material science. The design changed slightly to encourage better presentation of the New Kingdom’s standard and colors, which itself was a modification of the Njarii Azunja colors. According to soldiers who have tried the uniform, it “exceeds all concepts of comfort in a uniform.” Weaponry provided to the soon-to-be Royal Guard is the ZI Z8 assault rifle, however this is only temporary according to the corporation. Weapons engineers from Zavodskoi and the Morozian Imperial Armaments Conglomerate, a recent addition to the contract to assist Zavodskoi Interstellar in the production of the Royal Guard’s equipment, are reportedly working with Royal Firearms to create a variant of the Z8 better adapted to Tajaran use and the Adhomian environment, both factors that underperformed during trials. It remains to be seen when this variant will be released. In the same announcement, Queen Shumaila Azunja has officiated the Royal Guard, officially the Raaktiye Pretnarii, as a new division under the Crown Government, and under direct control of the Crown. The formation of this new force eschews standard organizational standards within the Kingdom by establishing the unit as a wholly separate command from the Imperial Military. The specification of control over the Royal Guardians under the Crown has resulted in some concerns raised by those within Parliament, however Queen Azunja reassured those concerned with the development that this decision was made with caution in mind, but necessary for the protection of the Kingdom’s most vital persons. Field-Marshal Vyakelas Klyuchevsky has announced the beginning of the Royal Guard selection trials. Individuals within the Crown Government and Imperial Military are eligible to apply for the trial process. Trials reportedly take four days, during which candidates are tested for marksmanship, survival skills, physical fitness, mental aptitude, and public relations. To quote Field-Marshal Vyakelas Klyuchevsky, the trials are “gruelling and intense.” The first Pretnarra are expected to complete training within the next two months, starting the next chapter of the New Kingdom’s progress towards the future. May the Suns bless the Raaktiye Pretnarii. See more: - When is the next batch of Darmadhir Brew releasing? I believe in many cases, when or how the restrictions are applied is overblown. Looking directly at the SOP: Non-standard operations is pretty much any time you're not working normally. What does this mean? The restrictions primarily apply when you are appointing an interim to fill a vacancy when the shift is calm and/or on green. There is some language differences between this and the Chain of Command page that will be resolved. However the point standards. In an emergency, anyone (except Vaurca) can be interim, to be demoted when the emergency ends. As for the information consolidation, yeah. While I disagree it's as fragmentary as wording may suggest, many of these things have been added or changed and either the wiki or CCIA team haven't had a good place to put everything together. So we're working on that. I would disagree with removing the policy outright given the above point. Most of the non-xeno restrictions are pretty intuitive, the anti-corporate planets naturally are not good command candidates, and the xeno-restrictions are a species lore decision for various reasons within their lore. This should be reflected when there isn't an emergency, which is the current status quo.

Girdo's MegaCorp/Biesel Lore Writer Application
CatsinHD replied to Girdio's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I've talked with Girdio a lot for a decent while. Even just within the scope of Taj lore, the dedication to detail and interest in the nuances and intricacies of one species is something Girdio manages to handle, seek out, and expand on. Throw in the LCAs and a clear ability to write, I'd have no doubts that Girdio would be a capable writer. Easy +1 -
This is a lore matter that is being fixed currently, I would rather not use it as a case for adding more departments to the list. As for the suggestion, as mentioned by Dessyalta, I think NT would be my choice over PMCG if we had to add another corp to engineering. I believe the main thing for me is that Combat Engineer/Sapper =\= ship engineer. The qualifications, training, and effective duties are pretty dissimilar. I, personally, would be confused seeing PMCG in engineering. Adding lore to PMCG to justify its addition could work, I suppose, but I'm not sure whether that would be better than including NT who has an arguably stronger justification: being the manufacturer of the BSD and Super matter engines. Granted, the reason why NT wasn't included was the limitations placed on how many departments a corp may be within. NT is already maxed out at 3. Whether we still believe that to be a good limit or not is another question.

Thank you for applying! However, I cannot accept this application in its current state. I do believe there is a good basis in terms of a character concept, however major touchstones for the lore itself are not interacted with sufficiently, or left out completely. The most notable of these is the Second Revolution, which was only majorly interacted with through the S'rand'marr coalition. However, the current state of the Cold War, religion, the cultural dynamics of the changing Tajara society, and Tajaran experience off-world are not investigated to a satisfying degree. I would recommend taking some time to investigate Tajara lore further, ask questions, and let the lore soak for a bit before re-attempting the whitelist. If you need help for details or to refine ideas for the application, the lorecord and Tajara lore team are always available. You may re-apply in 3 days.

Staff Complaint - Connorjg1, Evandorf
CatsinHD replied to FearTheBlackout's topic in Staff Complaints
After going over the logs and communication with @Melariara, we've determined that the decision to PK Pleig was a joint action between CCIA and Lore. Ultimately, regardless of whether damages occurred, the nature of assaulting a consular and Ta, especially by a queenless, was determined to be enough by Vaurca lore to PK the character regardless of whether it was minor assault or not. CCIA was compliant with this as both a lore decision and due to the nature of assaulting a consular from a nation the SCC is actively seeking improved relations with. With that being said, at the time both you and the agent found an agreement in how Pleig was to be removed, and all parties agreed before the IR was closed. There isn't much to justify lifting the decision to lift the termination, so the current ruling will stand.- 1 reply

So, this has been something on my mind a lot recently. As to be expected, frankly. Having thought a lot about it, I've come to a few determinations and conclusions: Tajara are intended to be glass cannons, but fail at it. Now, some of this is the reality of combat on Aurora, SS13, and the nature of fighting on a ship. Mobility is hampered by enclosed hallways. Flanking is difficult when maintenance is the antag's domain. So! What are my thoughts? To preface, this is my vision for the niche Tajara fill: Glass cannons and information gatherers. They're agile, they're fast, and they're the go-to for clandestine operations. Now, that last mention is out of place for the Horizon, but it does help in informing some of what we can look to for balancing. Generally, I am a strong believer in roles. In the same way Unathi are the tanks (to avoid opening a can of worms on Unathi balancing), Tajara are the rogues. So how do we emphasize this! Hear me out, some of the suggestions are a little out there. Provide Tajara the ability to extend their vision 2-3 tiles. Similar to the Aut'akh augment or binocs, but shorter range. This achieves the information gathering AND glass cannon idea. It allows firing from beyond range, but the limited extension means a Tajara is still well within reach of being rushed down and shot. That additional range is also useful for spying from afar. The trade off? Taj are frail, and the extended range risks eye damage like having nightvision on. Allow sensitive hearing to inform the Tajara of a conversation through walls. This is information gathering. Being able to hear noises through walls and conversations (potentially knowing who is talking) is very useful. Especially in maints where security are on the back foot. The trade off? You have sensitive hearing on. It puts you at greater risk of hearing damage and being stunned. Increase the amount of noises that can be detected with sensitive hearing. Currently, it is mostly just used to listen for airlocks. This is limited and feels half-baked. Expand it! Now, these are NEW items, mostly. This does not get into the brute modifier, speed, or sprint. I generally am for taking a new look at all of these. Tajara were balanced for an older era with hyperzine M'sai, point med, and all kinds of other things. Whether it's reducing the brute modifier, altering their sprint, or tweaking the movement speed. I'm for it. I'm for it for all of the species. However, as Tajara are the focus of this suggestion, it's what I'm focusing my thoughts onto.

BYOND Key: CatsinHD Discord Username: CatsinHD#4202 Character Name: Kalkii Dynhvah Item Name: TD-17 T’varrnav Varrom (TD-17 Submariner Coat, if Siik’maas names are not preferred) Item Function(s): A suit item, carrying over the typical functions of a jacket. Open, close, two pocket spots. If possible, opening the suit slot to some common Hangar Tech items, like a tablet, wrench, crowbar, or clipboard. However, this isn’t a deal breaker. Item Description: A black leather coat with a Zshram fur collar found in use by the People’s Republic of Adhomai’s submarine service. This coat is missing the left sleeve past the shoulder, along with holes and rips throughout. Care has been taken to hem the edges of the holes, rips, and remains of the left sleeve. Rredouane’s sword has been stenciled onto the back of the coat in white paint. Ext Desc: The Miraniye T’varrnav Varrom, translated as Miran’miran Submarine Coat, is the standard overcoat supplied to the Republican Navy’s submarine service. Designed to insulate and protect the wearer against the ice-cold water of the Adhomian seas, the black leather coat is a source of pride among submariners and coveted by Al’mariist and Royalist sailors as a war trophy. Once produced within the port city of Miran’mir it is named after, the war forced production to move to the Ardiye Romanqri Khaz’tra in Nal’tor. Despite this, the coat had only minor changes, remaining constant throughout as a symbol of the Hadiist menace across the waves. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: A lot of the drive in bringing something like this coat is in its personal value. The coat being as important and valuable as it is to them, a symbol of their history, struggles, and pride, is why they continue to carry and wear it as an essential peace of their daily outfit since first receiving it in the Navy. The Horizon is no different. Additionally, despite being damaged, it still provides the practical use of comfort, extra pocket space, and warmth for the organic parts of Kalkii on expeditions. How did your character obtain this item?: The coat was first earned during Kalkii’s service as a submariner with the PRA. All submariners within the PRA receive a black coat for weathering the Adhomian seas. As time progressed, personal modifications, such as painting TD-17’s unofficial logo of Rredouane’s sword, were added. Throughout the war, it received some nicks and cuts, however it achieved its current state after the explosion caused by the Outer Eyes in the Horizon’s holodeck, where Kalkii was a victim while wearing the coat. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: The majority of its value is bound up in history and the desire to show the hardships, victories, and pride Kalkii carries. The idea of battle scars and wearing them with pride. The coat has been the symbol of this, a catalog of everything since they first entered the Navy to now, when they were bombed. While doing minor repairs, cleaning up the edges and such, is in the best interest, preserving the markers and physical representation of the coat’s, and therefore Kalkii’s, history is immensely meaningful to them. To Kalkii, the coat is a part of them. It is, essentially, a catalog of their history manifest. Sprites: Not a .DMI currently since my dreammaker system is borked. However the sprite is ready for PR. Additional Comments: This custom item will likely come with a separate PR for adding in the PRA submariner coats. The base coat in the loadout didn’t satisfy my image for the custom item, however the item would be a little odd if it wasn’t based on the submariner coat.

Overall, I don't think 45s or really any reasonable option for secoff duty weapon will adjust armory usage. At the end of the day, the armory will be used when Sec is approached with armor and rifles. Even if the 45 could one shot an antag, there is aspect that trying to showdown against a merc in full kit with a 45 and anti-gank armor will not go well. Fixing that needs either an armory rework or an adjustment to how antags escalate in terms of equipment. Which is not in the scope of this change. Just rambling to say that this will never change armory usage as that's a wider reaching thing. However, for on-stations the 45 can be notable. It is pretty effective with paincrit, as is its nature. It does emphasize being smart with escalation as an on-ship antag. I don't think it's a negative, it does put some extra weight onto mobility, having an escape plan, and armor. I will use this to segway into saying that, as mentioned before, the rubbers could use some tuning or a new "stun round" should get introduced. However, I haven't antaged or played secoff as much recently so mileage may vary. The real solution is giving all secoffs the magnum disruptor /j -
