What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: pale Cyan, or something suitable for an Aliosian Skrell.

Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes. I've read them twice, once when I had wrote the majority of this application, and again around the time when I posted it. 

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this species?: 

I enjoyed writing up the application, making the character and playing as part of the community. I think I would enjoy it a fair bit more if I could get to making an alien with the idiosyncrasies afforded to them by the culture where they were born and raised, as well as a chance to get into my characters that I had before my whitelist stripped. I’m also a fan of dressing my characters up, and I think Skrell are more interesting for that type of thing. Having an alien person to roleplay is fun, since I generally want to play a character that is far from my own experience, and an alien is farther in the scale than a human from another solar system.

What makes role-playing this species different from role-playing a human?: 

I will have to put myself in a different mindset than when I play other species. Skrell have to “act” in a different emotive vehicle, and I really think I would enjoy seeing the reaction that people have to a non-human normative expression. I would try to make it more wordy and expressive with a list of pre-made emotes I have in a document so I don’t have to come up with it on the fly and risk having it come out in an inauthentic or wrong way instead of “alien”. I think it makes for better characters for me.

In comparison to human politics, the Nrallak Federation is the monolithic feature in nearly all characters that are Skrellian. No Skrell (except those from the generation fleets) is more than a generation or two away from their worlds, and they’ve got the soft-power reach that it takes a lot more reasoning to create characters that can “get away” with being a dissident. A normally antag-only ability, psionics, is their domain, and it’s kind of like Vaurcan VR -- It has broad, vast implications for their society and you should think about it when you make your character, but it’s very distant to the concerns of non-Skrell, typically.

I think, if I could have a change or focus on the lore, It would be in the years immediately after Glorsh Omega disappeared. What was it like? That the event is as close as possible to an apocalypse scenario, and I think it should be made clear that the Federation fragmented during that time, and not in a good way. The Skrellian Condition meant that the separated peoples would’ve immediately moved to re-unify, and it would’ve been an effort done by everyone in the society, not just by the central authorities in the highly developed planets. It’s only when distance and time forced a planet or societal fragment into percolating the idea of independence would require a more forceful hand in re-unification.

Character Application

Character Name: Seleq Aki

Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived at the SCCV Horizon. 

Seleq is nothing, if not *Loyal*. Loyal to her Qu'Draa, to the Federation, and the friends she garnered in life. This wasn’t a loyalty that could be expressed with oaths, with words or with esoterica communication-- It’s in her bones, as solid as star-shod steel even before it was re-affirmed into the psyche in a re-education facility, this forged loyalty was the only way she had made it out as a rehabilitated citizen. There is no breath, no life without that loyalty to her family first, and to the federation a scary close second. To break that loyalty is something that would break her.  

Seleq, and her family are from Aliose.

Her once honored, cryo-sentenced Elder’s sin in the eyes of the Federation is to hold the privilege of being a part of the hypercognition development teams in the zenith of Glorsh-Omega’s void technology laboratories in the city of Haq’tola’zlip. The Elder was not immediately murdered in the aftermath of Glorsh-Omega because of the double lives they led as a part of the resistance members that would make up the Veterans Lodge. Then, details were recovered that Glorsh Omega had killed several important members of the Lodge based off of intelligence garnered from the Elder in the years after Seleq had been born.

Archived evidence indicated that either the family unit were patsies for Glorsh Omega and thus void-dwelling monsters who betrayed the Veterans Lodge in favor of that machine god as a triple-agent, or they were merely double agents whose incompetence led to good resistance soldiers viciously executed, and the awards they had received from from G-O doesn’t help the perception to the second interpretation. Seleq hopes it’s the first option (vindicating her re-education, and loss), but it could just as well be the second, as the full truth probably died with the transcendence of Glorsh-Omega. At the time when Seleq “graduated” into compliance, Seleq would’ve been happy to see her family re-educated, if the Federation moved to enact it.

But it’s all so complicated. Seleq’s Qu’Draa worked in fields related to her honored Elder, like  support hardware or robotics. Eight months after Seleq was released from a re-education campus after a sentence lasting for eight years, the remaining members of that Qu’Draa sensed the Federations unseen hand moving in the background, and felt fear. Seleq displayed a profound, deep weakness, and did *nothing*, but to accept the lie that the whole family was going on a vacation, to follow meekly with her family as they moved to escape the Federation illegally. They did so to avoid the collective fate that Seleq “suffered”, or worse, the cryptosleep that the other her honored elder had been sentenced to. They had selfishly looked upon that fate that they knew was coming, and turned to run far away, but they couldn’t let go. Seleq’s family looked at Seleq and saw pieces of their bright eyed, too-curious-too-open child they grieved for in silence, and couldn’t leave without her.

Seleq, like her Qu’Draa, are refugees that escaped to Tau Ceti in the year 2463. To prevent their prompt deportation back into Federation Space, Seleq was ultimately convinced to enlist into the Tau Ceti Foreign legion, preventing the breaking of her loyalty to the Federation by lying to herself, that supporting her expatriate family is not treason, and that living well would show that the Federations brightest values could be displayed even far from the homelands of Qerrbalak, that even those in their lowest, the Skrellian diaspora are still virtuous and good. If it means that Seleq wouldn’t have to go against the biggest authority in her life; To suffer that moral injury against herself and betray her Qu’Draa, by breaking the comfortable illusion that they lived in is a lie, and what they all did should be a re-educatable offense, then… All the better. 

Seleq knows they needed her to do this. The criminals in Seleq’s Qu’Draa relied on both obscurity and Seleq’s service in the TCFL until they received their citizenship two years after they immigrated, full stop. I’m thinking about keeping some of the tension by saying that there are still pathways for Seleq’s family to end up deported if Seleq does something, but I'm not quite sure how to write it out in a way that would make sense.

Aki served for Three-ish years. Seleq was basically a conscript in quality as a soldier and combat medic, in my mind: She got trained going through a TCFL bootcamp. I’m not quite sure on what she would measure up as at the start of her service, but if Seleq were a human they’re basically a freshly graduated highschooler who joined the military for a 3 year tour after doing 4-8 months in a political re-education center somewhere in their high school years.

Seleq wants to eventually prove herself to be something virtuous, That her actions prove that she does not deserve severe measures again. To do that, she wants an education to become a physician. There is no state apparatus to fund that education without re-education, and the math came up that with some bleak outlooks; Seleq could either continue along in the TCFL to get the assets to fully fund a Qu’vesi (three college degrees) to become a physician in a timeline that might end up measuring decades, or take less time and go to a corporation for a timeline scaled in years. 

So, Aki went corporate, tearing another wound into herself and abandoning all her comrades in the TCFL. Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, Seleq Aki works as a first responder or some similar title. Also, Seleq trusts her Qu'Draa to handle a large portion of that money as she trusts them, and thinks that they know better on how to financially plan for her education. It’ll be in Seleq’s exploitables, and it will imply that they forward some of it to Biesel-local Anti-Federation groups. Seleq would be devastated to learn about this. It’d ruin her day.

Seleq would disdain positronics, but Seleq mostly lost the ability to really hate anything, it’s only expressed in platitudes to garner favor with federation representatives and a lack of initiative or a nervousness to engage with them. Seleq thinks the Federation is the best thing since water buckets. She is desperate to increase her credit score with the exception of the one line in the sand-- compromising her Qu'Draa in the face of the Federations reach. Combined with the fact that the family unit illegally emigrated from the Federation, I would argue that Aki’s behavior  *might* kick them out of “deport now” levels of scoring in a couple decades, but I admit I am biased towards optimism, but Seleq has hope. I don’t know what their credit score would currently be, but she is a dual citizen with the Beisel Republic, so it technically does not matter, but I do want a recommendation for a number to put into the Nrallak passport. A number between 0 and 4, preferably. I know they are going to be an Ox.

Personality wise, they are a young, polite Skrell who is interested in making friends that fits with their ideals and can empathize with their family issues. I don’t want to use an exclamation point when I play this character, and I kinda do wanna experiment with using pre-made phrases that will reference quickly for visually expressing emotions through their head-tails, hands and movement. Despite her Qu’Draa’s maneuvers, and what the Federation already penned her out to be, I want to play Seleq Aki as a good, honest citizen of the Federation. They might ask people for money so they can go to their favorite university in the galaxy, the Beisel Institute of Medical Science to get their end-goal in life completed. They have a family oriented mindset, but good families can still produce criminals, and sometimes, someone from a family of criminals can break out of their circumstances and be an honest citizen. They see Biesel, that chance for cooperation among cultures and peoples to build something *more*. It’s a kind of a reflection of her own struggle in seeing the best of everyone despite what they came from, or their past, and Seleq is intoxicated by it. If they were not a Federation citizen first, Seleq would be the Beisel Republic’s number one citizen. Seleq holds this national belief with a border-line delusional fervor, a meme partially a result of psychosomatic programming gone off the tracks that they had received from the Federation. Realistically, they are probably going to never be able to return to the Federation without going through another rehabilitation program, but Seleq has hope, and it’s all she has.

The only reason that Seleq would not immediately be sprung for a lie that the federation would say that they would not incarcerate her and then immediately walk it back when she returns is because of two reasons:
1. Seleq’s Qu’Draa probably has actionable information, and Seleq has been psychoanalyzed and determined to be a route to compromising their infosecurity.
2. Seleq will not suffer through the cognitive dissonance of “Federation law good” and “Qu’Draa good and follows Federation ideals if not law”, and will not go to the Federation space without her family. She sees it as irrational to migrate as an individual rather than in a group when possible. Persuasion attempts from one side to denounce the other make her so uncomfortable so as to cause her to disengage as thoroughly as possible.

Timeline for the character:

 T+0-48 two critically important parental figures who were former Veterans Lodge members were sent to cryptosleep for being a triple agent in the rebellion, as more evidence were churned up from archival analysis, Simultaneously, Seleq is sent to re-education for her deep ties to them, but the rest of her Qu’Draa are spared for logistical or communal reasons. 
Released from the facility, graduated from Reefgarden. T+56 →
Remaining Family elements essentially kidnap Seleq, and run away to Biesel at 2463. Ultimately enlisted into the TCFL T+56 →

How have the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character.  

Seleq’s raison d'etre is forged in the fires of the Warbling: The Musical Arc, but I talked a lot about that already, and I don’t think it really fits “recent”.

Seleq’s real rigorous test in her belief in the world started in the Peace Keepers Mandate. Enlisting, training and fighting for the Beisel Republic, being the light at the dark of having the best of both worlds; a family intact, and something like the service to a nation Seleq craved. Her first real experience outside of the Federation is her deployment to Mictlan; Enforcing the ideals of the republic at the end of the barrel of a gun did not really change her opinion on much, only that it sucked, and Seleq did not want to do it personally if she had a choice in the matter. Seleq was not disillusioned from her beliefs in her tour, even if she had to shoot at Mictlanians with a gun. People, soldiers and medics and technicians and support personnel were all comrades in arms that took part in that operation, and Seleq tried to make friends across many boundaries. Institutional favoritism in Skrell combined with Seleq’s atypical incompetence meant she was resented, and the few people she won companionship from were treasured. She would come off as the incompetent-but-trying sort of person in the military, and not everyone would see beyond her ability to develop their opinions on. Not everyone could take to things in an instant, and some hard lessons were learned as Seleq muddled through the conflict. She witnessed people’s crippling injuries and sometimes death knells, and Seleq is familiar with that kind of thing because of it.  Her personality would probably be different, more annoying or naive if they hadn’t gone through the fires of anti-terrorism operations. 

Seleq is uncomfortable alone because the memories of the conflict come back to her. She could’ve died from more than one incident because of her trusting nature.

How does your character view the megacorporation they work for?

Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals. They are the number one corporation to work for in Seleq’s opinion. Seleq views them as her gravity assist to the stars, and every idol Aki enjoys lives as an employee in that corporation. If Seleq’s life did not require a years of service the TCFL and shooting people in Mictlan, she’d probably have ended up in that corporation anyways. They’d definitely be up for the augmentative processes to become more than Skrellian, and hopes to maybe become something more with decades or centuries of works that just like what her idols get, seemingly as easily as they breathed.

The only spot I can perceive is an anxiousness with regards to that interpersonal calculus, that Seleq would  know she does not have a foot in the ground on how to interact with her colleagues. Although Zeng-hu does have channels to Nrallak-born dissident groups, I think it’s a different thing to having a likely anti-fed employee in their ranks, which probably puts a damper on her career, but no more unless they start committing terrorism or something. Seleq is aware that she will have to be careful about the judgment and alienation from her peers that those aware of the social credit score system. It creates a situation where, I think, Seleq would be relatively aloof towards fellow Zeng-Hu employees and more engaging to the people who don’t have a skin in the game, and a suck-up to her superiors.

I want to jump back into the game and play as a Skrell. In pursuit of that, I’m thinking on the mental mechanics that I think are behind my problematic behavior. I will freely admit that I am a person that has an obsessive, frantic personality at times. Part of that expression was in how I approach the game, and a lack of an ability to separate out the character I play from who I am resulted in my whitelist being stripped. I enjoy making shitposts and banter while I play in a roleplay game, and I have been warned that I have failed to keep that to fail to hold back in situations and when I was in my third or fifth round of the day, when the fatigue sets in.

My focus and interest settled into the fact that I liked to play the roleplaying game with the characters I got, and I wasn’t careful in moderating myself; I would engage in the server thoughtlessly, and fail to consider getting in character, and puppet a caricature as well as be flippant in how I express myself. I didn’t express this behavior when I was playing my head of staff characters, or at least it was not commentated to me, so I think it’s a mindset issue.

Coming back into the game, I think it sucks that I got my whitelist stripped and I’d much rather not be doing this, so I’ve put thought on how I would  stay inside the acceptable boundary to express acceptable quirky behavior that I want to roleplay and not drop the facade. My first, knee jerk reaction since my whitelist stripped for the species was to stay away from OOC & LOOC during rounds, so that I wouldn’t bleed of my mindset in engaging those channels doesn’t affect my roleplay, and I hope it shows in the difference in interactions I’ve had with people.

Though I feel irrational saying this, this situation feels unfair to me. That it’s the result of my in-game interactions with the Skrell lore writer & deputies. When I look back to interactions I had years ago, I thought I did good in playing out my interactions with the characters aboard the ship. To the group that makes the lore, I’m gnashing my teeth at the thought that they only have an image of my characters at their worst. 

And I’ll reiterate: I feel irrational at that thought, that is merely what I feel, so I’ve been consciously thinking around it. If I actually was done wrong by anyone in particular, I would’ve brought it up in the form of a player complaint, and I’d rather just prove to those people that I can change for the better going forward.

The whitelisted alien characters I play will have a structured approach to them if I get the whitelist. Both long-form documentation with the complex parts of the character outlined, and short-hand notes. How they act, groups of people they act a particular way towards, some common ways they express themselves. I’ll put an effort into looking at my notes more often to keep the expression of the character on course.

Ultimately, I feel like everything I have planned to do will let me play my characters in a way I can still enjoy the process while following the rules and guidelines that were established to me. It’ll just be different, and a bit more structured, and that’s okay. It’ll be different from the last warnings I was given, because the structure in which I engage in the game has changed. I’ll only put time into playing those characters when I’m in the right mindset, that’s all.

Hey there! Apologies for the delay here, and thank you for applying for the Skritelist.

However, your application has some pretty big issues, so I'm going to request a few changes and a few answered questions before we proceed.

In regards to the backstory itself, it has very little connection to the Federation proper and focuses a bit too much on the internal thought process of your skrell rather than actually describing their life. As per the whitelist rules, I'll need you to trim this down to be more Fed-aligned and less of an extraordinary story. If you need some more aid here, don't hesitate to ping or DM me.

As for questions that need answered (note if these change as a result of the above request):

1. Is Seleq's family known collaborators, or merely under suspicion? If so, how did they avoid being detained?

2. What was the specific reason for their re-education?

3. Given they fled Federation space but claim to be a Federation loyalist, how are they grappling with what is a blatant turning their back on the Federation vs their moral alignment to said Federation. Why would they not do the 'right' thing by the Federation government and turn over the collaborators and take the SCS hit instead of doing something blatantly suspicious?

4. What are Seleq's three degrees, where did they earn them, and when?

I'd ideally like to keep the essence of the characters background intact: They were born into a family of mixed dealings, got pulled into re-education, then got brought/kidnapped across the galaxy to Biesel by her qu'draa in the same mass exodus that arrived to Biesel in 11/07/2463, then signed up to be part of the TCFL to support her family unit.

Before I do this re-write, I want to ask some clarifications, I'll number them for each of the questions you posed in turn.

1. I'm not sure what would work best for this. There are degrees to "collaborating" to collaborating with Glorsh Omega and I figured that the Federation is slowly ratcheting down on prosecuting people who were  "acceptably" distant from the regime more and more as time goes by. If I had to put a definite stance behind Seleq's family, they a familial lineage famous for working in computer science, with only the elder that had been sent to cryosleep being the most egregious law-breaker, while the rest of the family was merely complicit or beneficiary. In the initial years after the dissolution of the Federation under Glorsh, they would've escaped prosecution as the Federation had institutionally easier targets, but they were on the list. To Seleq, all she would know is what she had been told: that her Qu'Draa are being wrongfully prosecuted and once more reasonable heads prevail, they could return. Is what I am putting down making sense?

In the modern day, the federation would hold the natural suspicion that Seleq's family is working with modern anti-federation groups, but they haven't found anything yet, and would use Seleq as a leverage point if they find actionable information. I would write in their traitor info that this is true, but I would express the preference that question's answer is not something that would be known by Seleq or the Federation.

2. What I had in mind when I first wrote down is this: Close Familial relationship with a conniving and scheming Glorsh Collaborator. I think that's enough for the federation, especially for someone that is legally not an adult at the time of her incarceration, but does that make sense to you?

3.  Seleq believed her close family when they lied to her about the emigration, and when she found out about the truth, Seleq was convinced that shaking the boat on a ship with hundreds of people also doing the illegal act would've resulted in her danger to her family-analogue, I would say at no point was Seleq actually willing to leave Federation Space for good, and at no point was she given a position where she could make that position known. I'm trying to get a character that would react to these types of questions by running away, physically if need be. To do that, the way I figure is the best way to do that was to make it clear that she had been manipulated and isolated from federation authorities. Should I make it clear that she had been kidnapped and then emotionally manipulated into joining a military organization by her opportunistic family, or what kind of approach should I make?

4. Seleq is planned to be a young adult in her 50's, has no degrees and is planning on earning enough money to get them at the Biesel Institute of Medial Science by working as a First Responder, I would say they are equivalent to a human with a high school accreditation and a stint in the military.

Here is what I got written down for a re-written backstory:

 

Seleq Aki is a irrational creature with the rational desire to please authority figures taken to a illogical endpoint through a mental framework shaped by a youthful, ignorant outlook combined with failures in the psychological programming taken advantage of by her Anti-Fed Qu'Draa. Despite the systemic, massive effort on the societal scale of the Nrallak Federation, she is part of a unusual statistical profile of a Skrell whose participation in the re-education program of a core-world results in a net-negative outcome. The short timeline can be summarized as:

• Raised in a Federation-negative sentiment environment,
• Corrected in a Re-education program,
• Returned to Federation-negative sentiment Qu-Draa,
• Deceived, or manipulated into treachery through exploiting otherwise positive personality traits.
• Continue to express positive personality traits in an attempt to fulfill original Re-education program ideals despite restrictions and responsibilities emplaced by her Qu'Draa or environment.

I'll be brief in describing the formulative conditions for Seleq. The family behind Seleq is a professional clique concentrated in a now-illegal industry of intense importance to Glorsh Omega during it's reign. The surviving members of the extended family group that raised Seleq are all that remain after justice system of the Nrallak Federation or mob-justice had gone through and separated out anyone guilty of crimes worth persecuting.  More than one person from this group had been killed extrajudicially by mobs formed in the immediate aftermath of Glorsh Omega's passing, and is one of the causes to the mistrust into the Nrallak Federation by their survivors. During Seleq's later Untuk’mak/Reefgarden education, the primary caretaker had been implicated as a "triple agent" in Glorsh Omega's suppression of the species. They had been a double agent of the resistance/Lyukal who had supplied intelligence to resistance cadre's to mixed effect. No evidence had been uncovered in archival recovery operations pointing to them as either guilty or not guilty, but intensive observation and analysis indicated them as guilty by their behavior by the precursor organizations to the Nralakk Federation Security Commission.

 Seleq Aki became incarcerated into the reform system for violent behavior in the aftermath of the confrontation that took her primary care-taker away from her to trial. Said care-taker was later sentenced to cryo-suspension or equiv. to life imprisonment without parole.

Seleq had successfully passed through the final years of her Reef Garden under restrictive conditions and was given the pass to return to her Qu'Draa, a decision made to complete multiple objectives in assimilating both Seleq Aki and her family into preferred Skrellian values by the various organizations in charge: the risk to Seleq was negligible and it would act as a pathway to further adjusting the behavior of those in care for Seleq.

In the few years after Seleq had been released but before their emigration out of federation space, the family unit was motivated to commit resources to illegally emigrate because of the extreme injustice that they had perceived as well as the deprivation in quality of life they had experienced as highly educated engineers/scientists deprived of a employable role. Economic reasons are as much of a factor for their movement as is their fear of further persecution. As part of a nucleation site for Aliosan individuals with similar desires towards a endpoint beyond the Federations borders, they became part of the Federation-wide movement that ultimately led to the mass emigration event arriving to Biesel on 11/07/2463. 

Understanding that Seleq would have never agreed to leaving the Federation as she had undergone psychological programming and schooling, they lied to her to start her on the journey. Seleq's first assumption that it was a odd vacation fell to a uneasy disquiet, then a quiet resignation to turn herself in at the first opportunity. Later expectations of a illegal movement to the Traverse had proved wrong as she counted the light years, and she went into a mental breakdown. In a tightly cramped, highly communal environment, the conditions were not pleasant by any sense of the word, and Seleq could easily imagine that agitation on her part would result in harm to the whole ship, or even the broader movement. The trauma from this emigration combined with her re-education solidified into a delusion: Just as her honored elder(primary caretaker) acted and harmed the Federation's people, and specifically caused Seleq to be re-educated, so to would unimaginably cruel consequences occur if she is to act against her immediate community no matter how just the reason would be. This delusion is further cultivated by her Qu'Draa through psychologically engineered messages sent to her, and Seleq cannot/fails to discern the messages as propaganda. Typical messages might be a funny photo depicting a still from a Tup-police tactical unit breaking into a house.

Seleq absolutely believes that her family would be brutally tortured and probably extrajudicially murdered if Seleq cooperates to return her Qu'Draa to the federation, and that the ideals, opinion and everything about the Federation is something to strive for. She is also uncomfortable when confronted with both of those ideas at the same time. 

She is communally minded, prone to emphatic guilt, and has a propensity to listen to authority figure to the extreme exactly because of her re-education, which were all traits exploited to become comfortable with the idea of betraying the Federation. Seleq thinks of her self as a good citizen of the Nrallak Federation regardless of her inaction against her Qu'Draa, believing she can make it up through other routes. Examples being that it would be a temporary setback, and that she could work to make up for it by being a excellent person by her Qu'Draa, and that what she did was not a betrayal of the overall federation but a unjust and narrow section. If her Qu'Draa had revealed themselves as having worked in capacities related to forbidden technology to the corporations, they would most likely been assassinated by the Federation. Seleq's Qu'Draa knew that, and so the only leverage they had was their skills usable in peripheral industries, and a young, physically fit Seleq Aki who has a interest in getting a degree in medicine.

The chaotic environment in Biesel required a certainty that Seleq couldn't get by taking decades for her education, even if there was money to do so. Seleq Aki required little convincing to volunteer to the TCFL, and her Qu'draa thought she would probably mess everything up if she had a chance to talk to a representative of the Federation. 

Served for a half-a-decade or so in the TCFL, with a notable tour in Mictlan, as a combat-medic. Did poorly compared to other Skrell, shot her gun at enemy combatants, get saved from her own stupidity and/or naivete, etc. She has not been given a chance to talk to a Fed representative during that entire time. This is where Seleq's fascination with the Biesel Republic began, and all the reasons she likes the Federation neatly falls onto the Biesel Republic in a way that both pleases her desire to rep a institution, and a organization her Qu'Draa happens to not disagree with, so it's what she publicly wears iconography wise.

As a professional Soldier, Seleq is not effective.  As a Paramedic, she is... a professional? Whatever her High-School eqv. education didn't cover, Seleq got through hard-won experience or the teaching she got in the TCFL bootcamp. I don't want to make any assumptions beyond the fact that a dedicated Skrell-led teaching environ is assuredly better, and her superiors had a interest in giving her the (limited) resources to succeed as a paramedic despite the handicaps involved. Despite all that she had received Seleq felt deeply humiliated at her lack of capability, and wants to compensate her ignorance as the completion of her tour in the TCFL gives her a opportunity for greener pastures as pushed forward by her colleagues and superiors.

Seleq has her eyes set on a Qu'vesi, a 30 year degree in the Biesel Institute of Medical Science. To get that education in a comfortable lifestyle, Seleq will get herself hired by Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals and  try to do her job professionally. She'll try to impress her superiors and be a little frostier with her co-workers from the same corporation and a little more open to those outside of it because of a irrational worry about Zeng-Hu employees having knowledge about the social credit system. She will work in that environment until she has enough money to qualify for a loan for her full education.

 

For your request on the questions that need answered:

1. Seleq's family are all under suspicion and would be telling the truth mostly because anyone who would be honest if they said "yes" had already been "got" decades ago. With how fiercely survival minded they are, I think it might be interesting if one or more of them kept it very quiet to everyone without exception that they were a full-blown collaborator.

2. Changed it to be violent behavior following the arrest of their primary caretaker in Seleq's Qu'Draa.

3. Changed it to that Seleq believes that turning in her Qu'Draa would result in them suffering far in excess to what might happen in reality. Seleq is handling that question primarily with the answer of "Cognitive Dissonance."  She will come up with whatever mental gymnastics she needs to justify anything she has done as good for the Federation despite the reality of the situation. As much as she can, her future actions will be to the benefit of the Federation as possible given the responsibilities and limitations she already set for herself.

4. My original lore had Seleq has having no degrees in the current day, same as this iteration. She plans on getting a Qu'Vesi at the Biesel Institute of Medical Science after she gets the money for it.
