Witt Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Welcome to Engineering 101. In this guide, I am going go over the basics of how to be a functional Engineer on the NSS Aurora Research Station. Today, we will cover your character; proper supplies for both Engineers and Atmos tech; The Singularity (Lord Singulo); Atmosia and the solars. Your Character Since the start of Aurora, we have had, for the lack of a better definition, a skill-tree system to help give our characters some more easily visible strengths and weaknesses and like all other jobs it is important to have the appropriate skills. The main skills for engineering are; Extra-vehicular activity (EVA), Construction, Electrical Engineering, Atmospherics, Engines and Heavy Machinery Operation. • E.V.A.- How comfortable you are in a Hard suit, and how likely you are to fall off station if you go eva. (Note that it has been hinted that people who are not professional level at EVA should not spend all shift in the suit) • Construction- Your ability to build and destroy items, walls, floors and such (Note that APCs, Air alarms and fire alarms are under electrical skill.) • Electrical Engineering- Skills with wiring, APC construction, circuits and bots (an engineer that doesn’t double as a roboticist shouldn’t need Higher than Trained • Atmospherics- How good you are at piping, air distro and such (Unless you plan to be an atmos tech you only need amateur if any skill here) • Engines- Your ability to start the Main engine without releasing Lord Singulo (Atmostechs need no skill here) • Heavy Machinery Operation- your skill as a mech operator (Optional skill) A good skill set for the average Engineer would be Trained or professional in EVA, trained in construction, electrical engineering and engines, and armature at atmospherics. A good Atmos build would be professional EVA and Atmospherics with amateur in construction and electrical engineering. Proper Suplies As an engineer or atmos tech you will need to be prepared for disaster to strike at any time. Here is an example of what to keep equipped on your character based on the demo skill sets I just suggested. Engineer- Standard jumpsuit, shoes, engineering radio and insulated gloves (not the budget crap in assistant storage), Tool belt containing; wire, wrench, welder, wire cutters, multitool, screwdriver and crowbar, Id in the PDA and hanging in the ID slot and a T-ray scanner in your pocket. In you backpack, you should have a hardhat or flashlight, a box containing emergency O2,breathmask, and one of each of the fallowing circuits; Power, Air Alarm and Airlock Electronics. Atmos Tech- Standard jumpsuit, shoes, engineering radio and black gloves, Tool belt containing; wire, wrench, welder, wire cutters, multitool, screwdriver and crowbar, ID in the PDA and hanging in the ID slot and T-ray scanner in your pockets. In you backpack, you should have a hardhat or flashlight, a box containing emergency O2,breathmask, and one of each of the fallowing circuits; Power, Air Alarm and Airlock Electronics. The Singularity (Lord Singulo) Lord Singulo and his proper summoning is a simple process that should take you no more than 15 minutes if you are the only engineer (less if you have a partner that can divide tasks). But before you actually begin setting it up there are one or two main things you need to do. 1. Retrieve a pair Mensons and put them on. 2. If you lack a CE/AI/Borg then you need to hack into the CEs office and open secure storage. (Note that most security won’t arrest you for this and if you’re good at your job you can fix the door without anyone noticing) Now that secure storage is open, head over to the tank storage unit and eject six tanks of plasma. Take these tanks and make sure they are filled to 1013.25psi with the Plasma canister in secure storage. Once they are full, place them in the Radiation collector arrays and turn on each array. Time for some EVA. Go gear up with the equipment on the racks just north of secure storage; make sure your tank is at 1013.25psi. Head on over to the EVA airlocks and cycle to outside. (For the Love of [insert God/Gods of choice here] turn on your damn air supply before you cycle out) Once you are outside and breathing thanks to your remembrance to activate your O2 supply, you need to begin turning on the containment field; Turn on the first emitter that is right in front of you, then head around in a clockwise fashion activating every Field Generator and Emitter you see. WARNING, do not touch the containment field or stand in front of an active emitter they hurt A lot, two hits is death so use suit sensors and common sense. Now that Containment is up and any casualties have been taken to genetics, it’s time to set up the Particle Accelerator (PA) and pray you did it right. First, if you aren’t the CE, return your EVA suit to the rack and put on the radiation suit (CE hard suit has rad resistance) and make sure your mensons are on or the singularity will slowly drain your life away. Take your wrench out of your tool belt and use it on all seven parts of the PA, the repeat with wire and a screwdriver. The PA is now secured; go over to the console and run a scan, if you did it right it will give you the option to turn on the power and set the particle strength. Turn the particle strength to level 2 and turn on the PA. Watch the process on the Singularity Engine Telescreen using the observer camera. When the singularity is has reached a three tile by three tile area in size (stage 2) turn the particle strength down to zero. The final step is the simplest and least likely to kill you, go over to the four SMES units (big round white things with flashing lights) and set the input to 200,000 and the output to 70,000 with charging and output set to the on position. Congratulation you have just set up Lord Singulo without killing everyone. Be proud of that. The Solars The NSS Aurora is equipped with four solar arrays that are capable of being used as backup power or to replace the singularity if the Captain/CE is nervous about the giant spinning circle of death you just made. The four arrays are accessed by airlocks near Engineering, Assistant storage, Botany and Science; they are far simpler and safer to set up assuming you brought your EVA suit, and air tank insulated gloves and a butt load of wire. To set them up, go to the SMES unit in the solar access room and set them to 80,000 over 65,000 and charging, output off. Then head outside and wire the array branches to the main station wiring just outside the airlock. When your wiring is completed head back inside and set the Solar Control console to automatic and repeat with the other three solars. Remember they are only set to work as a backup in this mode if you wish to disregard the Singularity, simply turn on the output on the solar smes units and turn off the PA and let the singularity die ( note if you let the singularity reach stage four ( 7x7 tiles) it is self-sustaining and wont dissipate.) Atmosia Welcome to Atmosia the land of pipes and grieffing bladies. Im going to give you a quick runthrough on some of your toys fallowed by the Ideal atmos set up; But first I need to warn you that atmos grieffing/ use of atmos as a weapon for traitors/rouge AIs is strictly against server rules and if you try it an Admin will ban you. It is ok to be a traitor Engineer/Atmos Tech but when you start killing the whole station to steal the captains laser gun or release the singularity because your Ion law says it was tasty toffee, then the line is crossed and I hope you get banned. Anyways back to Atmosia, In addition to different hardsuits than a regular engineer you also get remote access to any air alarm on station and two dispenser incase you feel the need to add to the nework. To use the dispensers, they need to be wrenched to the floor and in a room with power. (note one is regular pipes and one is delivery/trash shute pipes) I’ll give more on the dispensers and how to use them after we set up atmos. How to set up atmos (if you want to modify station piping) 1. Locate the Air to External and External to filter (they are attached to the pipes right in front of the main door) Set them to 4500kpa 2. Head to the bottom of Atmosia 3. Access the Nitrogen Supply Control console and the Oxygen Supply Control console, hit the search button and set the output to maximum. 4. On the other five similar looking computer in atmosia simply hit search. 5. There are Six Gas Mixers in the room, set them all to 4500kpa. Locate the Gas Mixer (N2/O2) and set only that one to 298kpa 6. Now head into the room at the top of Atmosia, the one labeled Distribution Loop, make sure step four is fallowed on the computer in this room aswell. 7. Locate the Waste in valve and set it to 4500kpa 8. Locate the Air to Distro valve and set it to 298kpa With that set up you are free to modify the atmos pipes and do projests like installing a vent in the research shuttle dock to refill after depressurization and such. If you do not want to do any projects or your CE said no, then set Air to distro valve to 700kpa and the Gas Mixer (N2/O2) to 4500kpa. If you have any question about Engineering or Atmos, feel free to contact me in game and I will try to assist you further Quote

Witt Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 This guide assumes you are not a CE. A true CE does not require O2 Quote
Guest Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Gravity generator smes Ideal setup: Input: 20,000 Output: 15,000 You have 4 and a half hours from round start before you loose gravity It gives off radiation only while charging and discharging. Quote
Jboy2000000 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 A small something that I always do but it seems to be forgotten, in welding supply closets are upgraded welders that hold more fuel than normal welders, but still fit in your toolbelt. Useful if you're going to be fighting space vines or the dreaded Level 7. Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 A small something that I always do but it seems to be forgotten, in welding supply closets are upgraded welders that hold more fuel than normal welders, but still fit in your toolbelt. Useful if you're going to be fighting space vines or the dreaded Level 7. All of my yes. The industrial welders are amazing. You can hack lathes to get them, too. Only problem is, people can get .357 rounds from the same lathes. Also, returning the EVA suit isn't necessary as a station engineer as the engineering hardsuit also has some radiation shielding, provided you're wearing mesons. But it's still recommended to put the suit back on the racks once you're done. Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 They come with some protection but they will not protect you from all radiation. When people setup the engine in a hardsuit they will always get some radiation damage Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 They come with some protection but they will not protect you from all radiation. When people setup the engine in a hardsuit they will always get some radiation damage I've never gotten radiation poisoning whilst in a hardsuit turning up the PA. Then again, I don't stand right in front of the accelerator arrays dousing myself in it. I observe from the monitor. Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Even from the monitor you still get some radiation. It does depend on how long you stay there and what level the singluo goes to. Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Radiation is not a problem if you're a plantman. It's helpful when setting up the engine and working on the grav generator. Not helpful cause you slow as shit. Quote
