Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I mostly play machines in different formats but I would really love to play a non-machine race that is not human. Skrell provide quite a different take on the whole organic thing. Like machines, Skrell are logical thinkers and in being so they can be extremely direct and minimalist in their choice of words. This makes them an appealing race to choose coming from a machine roleplay background.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: For starters they are asexual which will be quite fun to play with. They are also not very adept at speaking basic so they tend to slur their words quite a lot. A cool feature they have is the ability to absorb nutrients directly through their skin however they tend to use their mouth to avoid offending other species.

Character Name: Skailen Va'sharan

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Descending from quite a poor family on their home planet of Aliose. Skailen and his two brother had to fight to survive from a young age due to the loss of their parents. For many years Skailen scraped by with the lowest of the low brushing shoulders with thieves and other bad doers just to make it home at the end of the day. It wasn't until one of his brothers got into trouble with the wrong sort of people that Skailen decided enough was enough and he wanted to make it in the universe and get out of poverty. This came at a huge cost however as Skailen decided to take all the weight of his brothers crimes on his shoulders and fled the system with a huge bounty on his head.

Years later Skailen was found stealing from a NanoTrasen owned vessel and when questioned he simply stood in silence. One of the duty officers on that day saw the broken skrell and decided to take him under his wing. The officer taught Skailen a lot about law and order and slowly Skailen came around and changed his ways. Months of training followed and eventually Skailen was introduced as a cadet however he was always more interested in forensics and instead decided to follow the scientific part of crime. This lead him to many great things and eventually he managed to pay off the bounty hunters on his tail. The duty officer now an old man decided to retire and as a tribute for everything he had done, Skailen took a part of the officer's last name to honour him when he died.

What do you like about this character? He is brave and always tries to do the right thing, even when times are tough. I wouldn't go as far to say that he was the hero type but he defiantly has had his share of sorrow throughout his life. This makes him a relatable character as many of us do carry the scars from our past and we are stronger people because of it.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10, I have improved considerably during my time on Aurora.

Well this application leaves me with quite a few things to say and ask.

First off, a reformed criminal Skrell? I can't recall ever seeing that before. Skrell are typically logical and precise, at least in outward appearances and actions. I truly do not like the idea of a "gutter skrell", which is what I am afraid you may be considering. I admire your enthusiasm and your want to do something new with an organic, and Skrell would usually be a good choice for players who enjoy the more mechanical and logic-based thinking styles. As long as this Skrell is not too "emotional" (from a human perspective), then this idea could work beautifully. For my piece of mind at least, can you tell me if Skailen is a thinker or a fighter?

Second, the Skrell slur. It is a common theme and one that turns quite a few players away from Skrell RP. I just want to make sure that you know that Skrell are in fact capable of getting over their accent through practice. Think of it like any other form of accent. Consider it: Would Skailen have eventually trained out of hish shlight shlur?

Next, I'd like to know what position Skailen would hold on the Aurora. You mentioned him having an interest in forensics while a cadet. Is he now a forensics tech living his dream? Is he an aspiring cadet with hopes of getting his degree? How old is he now?

Also, the surname irks me slightly. The playerbase and the wiki show a variety of unique names for Skrell throughout history, but you chose "Nova"? I feel like you could do better.

Lastly, I can't recall interacting with you IC. I know I've seen Kix around. I'll keep an eye out and see how you RP. I look forward to your response and I hope to see you on-station and In-Character soon.

First of all thank you for your feedback.

We spoke a bit in game over LOOC and I'm glad you have taken an interest in my character. Hopefully I can answer some of your concerns.

Skailen would be more of a thinker than a fighter with more intellect than brawn. Understanding where to hit someone and actually hitting them are two different things.

I left the Skrell slur a little vague however I think it might be interesting to weed a little in here and there. With his human training Skailen would most likely speak a lot cleared than most Skrell but perhaps shlur the odd word here and there.

Skailen would work in the forensics department on the 'thought path' of crime more often than not. He could even be a decent physiologist if required as he understands the criminal mentality and mindset.

Yes, the horrible surname has been changed. I was thinking about it after I posted the application and decided to go with a more Skrell / human hybrid.

After speaking with you through LOOC and and the forums, I feel I have a better understanding of Skailen as a character and an idea. You've also proven to be quite level headed and take criticism very well.

After corresponding with Moltenkore, I am happy to give this application my full support. I am quite sure that Moltenkore can handle a Skrell whitelist and that Skrailen will serve as a fine addition to the station.

It's nice to see intelligent feedback on an application and I'm more than willing to accept this application once you update your answers to the required length.

Second your character is definitely fine and even if you wanted to do a skrell who wasn't the brightest and tended to let his anger control himself more then do it. Don't let other people's perceptions on a race affect your decision to make a character that isn't the norm. Just because a race tends to be something doesn't mean it can't be something else, if we had a race of ALL intelligent and non-emotional beings we'd be quite unrealistic because no one person is the same, people can be different. So yes do what you wish to do with the character bud.
