Event Management Idea

A lot of events that occur are scattered in nature, unexpectedly popped up, and quite frankly 3/4ths of the time abandoned by the original event creator. This leads to half-baked events where other people have to make up for what the host left to them, usually ending up in a mediocre pit of hell and confusion for both players and staff members.

I think there needs to be at least a community bulletin board about future events with a guesstimate time. This means having it get approved by staff and set up for a specific day in advance rather than "the next round".

Plus it can be voted on if the community wants it or not.

I agree with this. I'm always interested in doing an event and I was really into the idea of the Prison event we did earlier as of this writing, but I feel like it would've gone a lot better if officials had time to organize and make a really interesting scenario for people to participate in.

Also Nations has been talked about lately as something that would be very fun as a planned event that people could look forward to.

I've tried to do similar things all the time, with a dedicated event team. The timing of events is 100% up to how administration feels that day. They also don't appear to feel comfortable giving any sort of power to do events outside of their authority. So you'll have to change administration philosophy.

Good luck.

the event host permissions practically make you on the same level as a coder. if you know what you're doing you can literally do the same things an admin can in terms of changing the gameplay of a round.

"not being able to do something" is a load of crap, because I've seen you struggle with variables when in practice they are rather simple to modify. do you mean "not being ALLOWED" to do such a thing? because I would believe you then.

It's more of the problem of the time Jackboot asks to do events, as required an admin has to oversee it incase all goes to hell.

Generally when asked I have been the sole admin online and I'm usually too busy to monitor events.

There's been a little bit of iffyness (Is that a word) with people who have done events, mostly they have been (semi)unplanned or spur of the moment with a small idea and don't have an end or left for admins to end it, I can think of 3 times I have given event powers to people under my watch and they left half way through leaving me to deal with the end.

The only requirements for becomming an event host are you stay around for the event, you can't play a mayjor role in the event as you're ment to be making it happen not be the center of the event(Be able to jump around telling people with questions about the event rather than roleplaying).

A more recent suggestion by staff who have watched over events, you must plan your event to some level. Spur of the moment events usually end messy.

While I have no problem with semi-spontaneous events (even clusterfucks tend to go no worse than your average nuke round, and do mix things up), I'd be all for more event planning, too. I think a significant improvement could be made in events if the players were given a bit more background information (where appropriate) and some guidelines as to what's expected from them from an OOC perspective.

Also... some smaller events would be very nice. Colony and nations and prison and aliens are all cool, but they're a pretty big shift from the status quo and come with a lot of chaos. Things like manhunts, industrial espionage, disaster refugees, corporate loyalty tests, critical system failures, and so on could all make for interesting rounds without being crazy chaotic or giving "victory" to whichever side robusts the most. I'd certainly be up for running an event like that if the opportunity presents itself (and you don't mind doing a little hand-holding for someone who has almost no experience with SS13 admin tools).

I remember when we would go hidden for an entire day and just run event after event. I only saw it done once, but it was definitely good fun and it was fun for practically everyone involved. I would definitely support having a little pinned post with an event schedule. It really seems like events are run usually when I'm just about to leave and I check on the server, or when I'm already out of the house because plans and whatnot. I'd like to participate in more events, I just literally never know when they're going on. Which is butt.

I wouldn't mind being an event planner. Granted I won't have access to a computer for a few months after September ends, I do plan on coming back once my real life obligations are settled. I have plenty of ideas for this sort of thing too. Just off the top of my head I think a "double station event" could be interesting. Where people who join are divided into the derelict station (modified to be 2/5 habitable to allow for players to have a staging point to expand upon the station) and people who go on the NSS Aurora as normal. From there both stations will have a goal such as "Destroy opposing station, infiltrate and take their data disk, etc."

The advantage and disadvantage of either station could be that NSS Ruskie would be given mostly engineers, scientists, and sec officers once Aurora has at least two of each for themselves. It'd be complicated to pull off for sure but that's why we'd plan a month ahead for something like this. This would be a special monthly event that happens at the last Saturday of every month to ensure participants. From there we could organize weekly events to be done every Friday that we have handled and properly staffed such as nations or ayyliums. Or even prison with twists like prison cultists or malfunctioning prison AI.

The possibilities are endless.
