Reminder to Sec players

The heat of the situation isn't really all that big, usually, to the point they don't have time to say 'Copy' or 'On it'. It's pretty simple, but you are right, they need to be trained. There is no quick solution for it, other than for people to start doing it. All of us, generally. I don't see why this should fall only to whitelistees if all of us are effected by at.

As for covert's response; Yes, a simple list will actually do quite well. It's really not that complex and boils down to simple stuff:

  • Don't shoot people unless they pose a real threat.
  • Ask before you arrest and inform them of the charges before you do.
  • Inform your fellow security when you make an arrest.
  • A warrant is needed unless the person was cought in act, by an officer or a head of staff.
  • Wardens stick to the brig, watch the prisoners and don't leave it unless they need to.
  • Don't wear helmets on green.
  • Etc.

I mean, it's not quantum physics. It's pretty simple and self-explanatory. Be nice, be part of a team, stick to your role. On the other hand, I'm opponent of hounding people for minor mistakes, such as firing or invoking the DOs. People are still learning the roles and there is no need to punish them for it.

Just get a specific station directive regarding security and sum it all up with the list Bokaza posted. Anyone that fail to follow the directives can get instantly demoted or reminded again, also Head of Security's(some of them) can stop acting like they're the real law and if you're ordered not to communicate throughout security channel(i.e asking AI to do a thing like private messaging you), would possibly also get them punished, because they're being "fucking retarded" honestly.

Can I be rude? I feel like I need to say this.

Elitism and control freaks; the thread.

Seriously, stop calling people "retarded" because they don't play security like you. Baystation's sec clique tried this song and dance before, and they drove a lot of players away one year ago. Don't be them.

I don't ask for Head of Security's to "play like me", I ask them to "stop being retarded" and actually do stuff instead of sitting in their office and going like "oh boy this edgy shit my locker has makes me look so cool" and then you find their body in a locker during code blue, which actually makes them a Head of Security for a little moment.

You have a whitelist, it doesn't make you any special.

I disagree.

It makes certain players in the community who hold them somewhat important in their own right because they have that amount of IC power to change the way the game is played for certain people however they see fit.

Whitelistees are important. The important thing is that they do the right thing and trek on whether for better or worse instead of bitching and complaining about everything.

These people can do so much to help people out to learn the game and the atmosphere, but it seems that nobody even cares.

If whitelistees are important, would you revoke ones head of staff whitelist for making one roleplay scenario more interesting? Happened once, but I somehow haven't seen a couple of metagaming/power hungry/valid hunting heads of staff been punished, other than an useless "warning", probably because of favouritism eh?

That sounds more like that guy's whitelist was stripped because they were being an ass, not because it 'contributed to the enjoyment of others'.

Once again, though. Why haven't you made any complaints?

If I started to make complaints, there'd be shitton of them. I lost my faith in making them either way, since all you can get out of it is "player has been spoken to lolol, evn tho he is our good freind of community so w/e lol"

Also, that situation did contribute to everyone's enjoyment, before security members who thought they were the "law" came in throwing flashbangs and tasering them, leaving the captain to engage with his e.pistol. The person who was the suspect, enjoyed the shit out of that roleplay.

Please don't put everyone in the same pot. Somehow, I'm eternally obligated to help with this shit because I got a whitelist just under a year ago. Otherwise, nothing's stopping you from getting a whitelist and helping.

So you go complain in useless threads instead of making new, useful ones.

well if I could get a full list of recent players, I'd be glad to start making useful threads.

You said you lost your faith in complaints being useful, though. One thing I can assure you is that "let's discuss this problem" threads are essentially useless at achieving anything (yet I still bother). Complaints, however, do benefit from a certain success rate - and when they fail they're sometimes a chance at proving you wrong for having judged a player a certain way.

In the end it's not a fight that's going to produce clear and immediate results, though. You can change the community's overall mentality (it has changed in several ways during the past two years, though imo not from anybody's specific influence), but there's always going to be a constant flux of people (and thus ideas) coming in and out, thus making a lot of the work repetitive yet necessary.

Well said.

It is more or less irritating, I agree, that we get the same 'problem' coming in over and over again, that being new players making mistakes or just plain up bad decisions.

Kinda (y)our job to help mitigate that by either helping out the new (or shnew) players when necessary. Using a tone that's more or less exciting that you're willing to teach them and being painfully patient usually makes the person you're teaching feel all nice, gooey and special inside.

Arguably, I would say everybody has a nice, gooey and special side. Even if your personality clashes with it, try the best you can to teach people when they ask or if they look like they need something.

I'd also say we need less complaining about mistakes and more along the lines of trying to get a better understanding of who we all are and try to compromise with our problems.

We need to get rid of the divide between the 'serious' players and the 'casual' players. There has to be a way to find the middle ground here.

Y'all should watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMtFodY40PM, by the way. It's very insightful.
