spacevoidagent
BYOND Key:spacevoidagent Character Names:Brayden Striker, The Storm of Life, Richard Gronko, Lukas Mueller Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 51,0,0 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, multiple times. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to play this specific race because I really enjoy alien races, especially the new Vaurca. The Vaurca are vastly different from every other species in a multitude of ways. Both Mechanically and Culturally. They have a global hive-mind, which I think is an awesome feature for a species like this. They share the ability to survive in space and resist radiation with the Dionae. They also have a special bite, and other cool mechanics. But at the expense of all these cool things, they have the negative features as well. Need filters for oxygen, do not self heal, take a ton more Toxin damage, and very vulnerable to EMP's and fire. But among the biggest, is the inability to be cloned! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: This species is very different from Humans in a variety of ways. They must eat K'ois related foods, can not self heal, and can't breathe the Station Air without a Filter bit. They must be very cautious around Toxins and Fire prone areas, so as to avoid damage. They must also avoid EMP's, something a human without prosthesis really has no worries about. They also talk differently, pronouncing 'S' as a 'Z' sound, and 'F' or 'ph' sounds with a V. This impediment can be used to enhance the Vaurcae role play. This species is also unique in that there is unbound and bound Vaurca, with the latter being the inferior of the two in Vaurcae society. The Unbound can behave like a human would, while a Bound is like a Synthetic. The Vaurca are also very limited to their job selection and are faced with severe discrimination in Human space. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Zik Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born Unbound, he was raised with special care by the Bound workers of his Zo'ra hive. After his first six months after hatching, his brain was fully matured. For the next six months, information was slowly poured into his mind from the Hive. He received information about the Vaurcae, where they were from, why there were so far from home, how to speak primitive Tau Ceti Basic, and much more essential information to survive out of the Hive. After this 12 month maturing period, he was ready for whatever purpose the Hive may give him. After three months of 'Paradise' he was free to pursue his own interest, and headed out of the Hive, towards human space and an unbound future. He began his next Chapter of Life at New Mendell, Biesel. Upon arrival in Human space, he was amazed at the variety of life and technology. He was especially intrigued by Xenobotany after witnessing some of the science while touring the Botanical Gardens in New Mendell, and Robotics Research after reading about IPC's and Cyborgs. He immediately took an interest in the Science Field and so he studied for a year on multiple locations, taking his first internship on a Xenobotany lab on the planet Luthien, in the Tau Ceti system. After only two years and three months since his hatching, he was hired by NanoTrasen to work as a Lab Assistant on the research station, NSS Aurora. Zik knew how lucky he was to be chosen to work on such a station, and was naive to think the amount of pay he was offered was suitable for his line of work, because NanoTrasen was paying his human counterparts larger sums of money. Despite being an Unbound, Zik has extreme loyalty to his hive, considering he has only been out of his 'Paradise' for a little over a year; however, his loyalty should not interfere with most needs of the crew. Although he is eager to work among his new associates, he also has a feeling of apprehension. He faced a considerable amount of hate and racism while learning about the sciences, and hopes this does not carry over too much into his new workplace. What do you like about this character? I like that he is Unbound, young and eager to learn. I think playing a young, 'Green' Vaurca in Science will make for some exciting moments as he discovers new things. He will have a childish glee kind of attitude that I think many will enjoy. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7.5/10, I already have a IPC and Dionae Whitelist, still have much to improve. Notes: I know I have recently returned to Aurora, but I am very eager to interact with everyone again, and hopefully with a new Vaurca onboard. Edited July 30, 2016 by Guest Link to comment
Youbar
BYOND Key:spacevoidagentCharacter Names:Brayden Striker, The Storm of Life, Richard Gronko, Lukas Mueller I have seen Richard Gronko around the station, but I haven't had enough opportunities to interact with him. However, it does confirm for me that you're a rather frequent player, which is a good sign because it reflects your interest in the community. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to play this specific race because I really enjoy alien races, especially the new Vaurca. Need filters for oxygen, do not self heal, take a ton more Toxin damage, and very vulnerable to EMP's and fire. But among the biggest, is the inability to be cloned! I, too, enjoy playing different races and the different scenarios that comes along with them. This is a well justified reason, and it shows that you have read the lore to a certain extent. This is spot on, and outlines what the inherent weaknesses of these beings are compared to the standard human. You will be able to apply this understanding of mechanics when you place the race, building your roleplay, but this also demonstrates you have read the lore once more. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Zik Zo'raPlease provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born Unbound, he was raised with special care by the Bound workers of his Zo'ra hive. He was released from his 'Paradise' about 3 months after his 1-year maturing period had ended. He was free to pursue his own interest, and headed out of the Hive, towards human space and an unbound future. Upon arrival in Human space, he was amazed at the variety of life and technology. He immediately took an interest in the Science Field. He studied hard for a year. After only two years and three months since his hatching, he was hired by NanoTrasen to work as a Lab Assistant on the research station, NSS Aurora. Though still Loyal to his Zo'ra hive, he is eager to work among his new associates. However, you fall a bit short here. This backstory is a total of 126 words. You could easily be accepted by simply doubling that number, which won't take too much extra effort. Some ideas are: What part of science did he study? Anomolies? Xenoarcheology? Robotics? Will his loyalty to the Zo'ra hive have any impacts on his cooperation with the crew? What was the maturing period like? What can you pull from the lore to help fill it in a bit more? Why did Nanotrasen hire him? Did the vaurca have to accept lower wages to be granted a chance gain work experience, or was he talented in his field? Was it blind luck? What parts of life and technology interest him? Obviously science, but was it the consoles? Skyscrapers? Space travel? And so on. Overall, I like this application, but if you could just touch up on the backstory, I would feel happy to give you my +1. Until then, I am remaining neutral. Link to comment

Firstly, Thank you for your honest and informative feedback. As per your recommendation, I spent some time editing the backstory. I touched on all points you suggested. After completing the backstory, I had added 237 words, nearly tripling the original backstory, so thank you for your recommendation there. Cheers. Link to comment
