Lohikar Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 With the current state of NTSL, $source is not modifiable and broadcast() is non-functional. Often when people want to modify $source they just want to add prefixes/suffixes to names. Currently this is done by prefixing things to $content, however, this is ugly. Adding $prefix and $suffix variables to NTSL would allow people to write job-title (like) scripts, without having the ability to forge senders like is doable with $source modification. Even if $source was made modifiable again, it would be nice to be able to add prefixes/suffixes without getting italicized names.
TheGreatJorge Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Overhauling telecomms scripting is something that should be done carefully, as it would heavily depend on opinions and ideas presented. There are several ways to do stuff, and it should be discussed and agreed on which are non-ideal. I think that enabling "$source" for everyone could be a problem. Probably not. But it might be. Reason is usual. Abuse. Adding only prefixes and suffixes to the source part cannot be abused that much, and always leaves the original name, so people can either believe or check that prefix themselves. This is one thing of many, that do not need, but could see some attention, if we want them to work. That said, yeah. I agree with adding "$prefix" and "$suffix" variables. But I would not agree with fully enabling "$source" again. I also wanted to mention out of the topic: Generally said. I do not think people would just go and abuse it. But I also do not believe in said solution as "these individuals would be quickly dealt with". I mean, it is hard to say what counts as telecomms abuse. Applying script without permission of any responsible person? Applying script that would negatively tamper with peoples speech? I am sure many people did this before. And I am sure they were not punished (Including me. Humm.). And unless you do something that really stands out, like using it to spam or post offensive content, I do not think people would get rid of annoyance abusing telecomms resembles. So yeah. I hope what I wrote here makes sense, at least.
