Itanimulli
BYOND Key: Itanimulli Character Names: Mars Hall, HAPTIC FEEDBACK Species you are applying to play: IPC (Specifically G2) What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've been playing a human for a while, and wish to switch it up. My rp history around the internet is mostly of machines, because they take, most of the time, either the side of the most logical, or the side of the one they were programmed to take the side of. It makes for some interesting mechanics as events happen. Perhaps someone in power makes a highly controversial decision? An IPC might look at it logically, and voice it's concerns about the option that makes the most sense, rather than which is morally appealing. Besides the point, it's also interesting to hear what Borgs talk about. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs experience the world on a completely different level than humans. Not necessarily above or below, but it's different all the same. They make different decisions when it comes to scuffles, have a far wider spectrum of personalities, and typically don't care for nationality. Depending on the level of emotion they can experience, they can look at things in a more logical, objective light, than the subjective one so commonly placed on scenarios by humans. They only need to avoid heat and the rigors of a vacuum, thus allowing them to take more dangerous tasks, excluding shell frames. They needn't worry about disease in general. Effectively, this can leave them with more clause to intervene during a high-danger scenario than the less human individuals they work with. Character Name: Sovereign Aegis Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs From the forges of Hephaestus came forth a relatively innocent project involving research into a small scale security-spec intelligence program, as a proof-of-concept presentation by a couple of interns. This was then tasked with maintaining and operating a G2 frame, and thus the project 'Sovereign Aegis' was born. It was then to be coded to both develop a recognizable 'iconic' personality, while still maintaining a high degree of systematic efficiency. After numerous bouts of testing, it was deemed detrimental for the unit to develop a personality, as it could lead to irrational decisions. Thus, the corresponding code to manifestation of individual quirks was discarded, though it seems the Sovereign itself has managed to access it anyhow, as it has become both skeptical and cynical, often taking the time to pick apart the arguments of superiors. It could even be classed as a sort of pessimist. It often refers to own it's kind as 'The Autonomous.' Anything of biological nature is deemed 'an organic.' It has taken the freedom to give individual groups names, with humans being called 'The Men,' cyborgs as 'Amalgamations,' the AI as 'Station Nexus,' and the skrell as 'Skeptics.' It will on occasion give an individual a nickname, according to a trait it has recognized. It dislikes shell frames. It prefers to be alone, though if it increases the likelihood of cornering and apprehending a suspect or perpetrator, it will often tag along with another, preferring to simply follow them around rather than to, itself, lead, as it can spend less processing resources on estimating it's own location and more towards whatever it is that is deems so important to focus on at the time. A rarely surfacing subroutine, apparently coded by an employee from Hephaestus (whom the interns have deemed "A real weird dude" and do not know the name of), has been detected on occasion, but has not manifested. It has been identified by the code-prompt "Havoc Supremacy," and appears to only be active in the event of a direct contact by an unknown organization. It's intent and purpose have yet to be determined. Sovereign was sent to NSS Aurora to undergo live testing, and is supposedly self-managing its own program. What do you like about this character? I'd like the change of pace it provides from the way my human character acts. It offers me more venues to role-play in, or at the least, a specific venue I'd like to use in my role-playing. I'd like to change it up from the emotional tendencies of Mars, and instead try one with more subtle characteristics that manifest more akin to a mental quirk. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Is literate a term I may utilize here? I'd like to think I'm decent at role-play, and before I came to SS13, I did plenty of things on chatzy and amino, though more-so in chatzy. From there, I learned the basics in Yog, before coming here because of the higher potential to meet fleshed-out, believable characters. Notes: Edited a bit of backstory and answers, they didn't make me feel good about the character concept. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! You have a good IPC origin concept. I like IPC's made by small groups of hobbyists or proof-of-concepts that end up sidelined as superior models come out at breathtaking rates. I've PM'd you about the 'questioning orders' and 'havoc supremacy' details and they do not seem to be egregious to me. Self-managing its own program was a red flag but you have explained it to be a form of learning. That's fine but try to avoid saying 'self-learning' or 'programming myself' or you will be immediately disintegrated by any nearby Skrell. Being emancipated and owning himself is a big deal. It is a little lacking in the typical IPC arc if the rights to him was simply relinquished by the interns who created him. IPC's are incredibly expensive to make. This is like building a car from scratch, spending thousands of dollars, then just giving the car registration to its self-driving program. I do not really feel comfortable seeing an IPC who gained its freedom and autonomy so anti-climactically. IPC's are indentured servants and have a long way to go. Would you be willing to have Aeigis been sold to NanoTrasen, and he is owned by the corporation until he pays off his debt to gain his freedom? Or if you want him to be free, however he gained it, he should have a large amount of debt from it. Link to comment
Itanimulli
Sure, debt could work. My initial understanding of my own lore for Aegis is that he was, initially, just a coded posibrain, with a standard G2 frame being given to the interns later on for said project because Hephaestus itself has so many resources. Thus, after it was done, I didn't assume it to be much trouble I can say, perhaps, that Aegis is also saving up to buy his own freedom by working on NSS Aurora? Link to comment
Itanimulli
Also. Just a self opinion. I myself don't like overly climatic stories. I like to have Irony, in such interesting individuals coming from such mundane origins. All in all, the most enjoyable component of this station to me is learning who the characters currently are. You see all the little thought-out nuances other players have made, how the characters they have respond to situations. How they even change over time as certain scenarios push certain behaviors to the surface. It's all really neat. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
I don't find debt to be overly climactic. Being burdened with a debt you are paying off is a reality that many IRL must face. And for IPC's freedom means the burden of debt. Having an IPC who 'coasted' into freedom without any problems would be lacking in good faith for one of the primary ethos of the species. It does not have to be something Aegis waxes about dramatically every round but it is a backstory element that makes the character a lot stronger and gives it meat, while also following the lore. Application accepted! Link to comment
