Cargo Technician

Cargo Technician (4/37)

  1. Thanks for your feedback That was a wacky round to be sure, but was a lot of fun. Anyway, I do understand your point about the dramatic background, and I don't think you are wrong about normal backgrounds being fun and creative. I think that I just see it as the way I view roleplay. I don't have some sort of superhero bio, Ender isn't a genius, and he has his bad points. But sometimes things go wrong, very very wrong, and Ender is sort of, to me, the embodiment of that sort of roleplay. I made that bio to sort of reflect that. Ender is one of those, "Fuck, hull breach? Get me some duct tape," sort of characters who just cares about results. He'll go to extremes to do his job, and doesn't always do it the safest way. For example, you might see him using a fire extinguisher to fly around a big hull breach instead of spending the time to put support lattice down to walk on.
  2. I play and role play for fun. If you want some dumb cheesy answer, then sorry. Heads of Staff are there to make the role play run smoothly, giving a sense of order to things with the goal being the enjoyment of the players during that round. So, yeah, I'd say that having fun is a pretty good reason.
  3. Ah, also, I never lied about anything. As I noted before, I have another ckey, one I lost the password to. However, my computer broke, and so I stopped following the forum.
  4. Well, I understand your sentiment. I don't think that I had any negative feedback honestly, just didn't have enough positive feedback. So I don't see a reason to stop trying at it, you know? I did however add upon the backstory, which was incomplete (which I actually had not noticed). So I feel that this application is actually an improvement on other attempts anyway
  5. BYOND key: Octanus Character names: Outis, RAMPANCY, Ender Octanus, Helena Octanus How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 2-3 months, previously played on my other account, SPARTAN-113. Lost the password for it. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To have more fun with more roles that I am experienced with. Why did you come to Aurora?: I like roleplay, and I like Aurora's lore and consistent playerbase. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Hundreds of times. No really, I always play with the wiki up just in case I need an emergency injection of robustness. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the ability to portray a person or setting that does not exist in reality. It requires a vivid imagination, and good communication skills. It does little good to experience roleplay if you can't convey those experiences to those around you. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To ensure that the crew have a sense of guidance for their departments, as well as establishing an in-game chain of command. They should also help show players how to properly perform their roles, and how to use the game mechanics. Last but not least, spice things up and make the round fun for your department! What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players should be knowledgeable about the roles they are whitelisted for. They should also be helpful to other players OOCly, and should be held to a high standard to provide a positive impression of the server as a whole. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Ender Octanus Character age: 32 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ender Octanus had a pretty boring childhood. He went to school and did things that kids do, like play online games and kick soccer balls. He became a leader in his community at a young age however, and so NanoTrasen had their eyes upon him for quite some time due to his exceptional grades and high capacity to learn. He quickly became the Chief Engineer on an emergency response vessel that did work in the Sol System. Countless stations and ships were saved, though in one incident, Ender's left hand was lost when a Sol Alliance ghost ship revealed its nightmarish secrets. He and another engineer, along with a PMC, boarded the nameless vessel. The power was off. What the trio could never have known was that the vessel was responsible for bio-weaponry research, and not your normal chemical weapons sort either. The Sol Alliance was always pursuing new ways to return to its former military and economic might. This was one of its initiatives, research into recombinant DNA that would allow them to breed the ideal living weapon. But such folly never ends well. The crew were slaughtered, and clutches of eggs were laid next to ripped electrical wiring, the resulting electrical fires warming them. The beasts were dormant, for the moment. The only survivor was an unnamed IPC that had entered emergency power saving mode. When the three responders first encountered the beasts, the marine killed two before being dragged away. The engineer didn't fare much better. Ender was terrified, and ran, as fast and as hard as he could. The voidsuit was heavy, but the terror urged him on. Eventually he reached a small room, slammed the air alarm that had emergency power, and watched a smaller beast ram into the closing shutter. Ender wasted no time in welding it shut. Once he finished, he was panting for breath, eyes darting wildly for any motion in the room. He had forgotten to make sure it was secured. But the only thing of note he found here was an IPC. Ender approached it, when it activated. After informing Ender that its powercell was next to empty, Ender swapped it out with one he had been carrying. The two began to formulate a plan. They had to destroy this ship, and get to safety. Outis, as Ender named the IPC, the Greek word for 'nobody', led Ender to the fusion reactor that powered the drifting ship that wasn't supposed to even exist. Under Ender's instructions, the rods were denied their coolant, and the radiation shields were pulled out, to release what would hopefully be a lethal dose of radiation to whatever freaks they'd found. This done, they scrambled into ventilation shafts and maintenance hatches to avoid the worst of the radiation, until they slowly found their way to the ERT ship's umbilical. They could hear the roars of maddened, frenzied creatures. They had to get out. The ship was going to explode before long. Outis went first, to start the ship's blue-space drive. Ender followed, but a radiation spike led to a voltage spike in the airlock he was passing through. It slammed shut on his arm. There were two choices. Let himself remain stuck and die, or get back on the ship he came in on. He was still full of adrenaline, and so it didn't take him long to turn his plasma welder on after fumbling a few times. He closed his eyes, and sliced. It was painful, but at the moment, he barely noticed it, while slicing the left hand, suit and all, off. Free, he runs, feverishly, feeling sick (he had no idea if it was the radiation or the mutilated hand), onto the ERT vessel's bridge. He jumps into the co-pilot seat to discover yet another problem. The umbilical wouldn't disengage. They were effectively attached to the scuttling ship. They were out of time. Ender hits the big blue override button and forces a blind jump. The umbilical simply rips away from the exploding derelict, as the ERT vessel disappears from normal space. Two hours later, after Outis installs its own robotic arm onto Ender's stump, they disengage, and find themselves floating in an unknown sector in the Sol System. Their nav systems were down, due to the EMP. They launch the emergency distress beacon and wait. It was a NanoTrasen vessel that finds them. Relaying the story of the two survivors to CentCom, an executive decision to cover up the incident in return for a hefty fee from the Sol Alliance was made. In addition, Ender and Outis were hired. First they were sent aboard smaller ships, to serve as crew. Years later they were both transferred to the NSS Exodus. What do you like about this character?: He is fun and quirky, but pressure always brings the best out in him. He is rational and methodical, and even when he doesn't know what to do, he can manage to inspire his fellow crewmembers. What do you dislike about this character?: He dislikes when someone else knows more than he does, especially when he feels that he has seniority. Ender has a habit of flirting excessively while on the job, and can be very messy and slobbish. Those who do not know him might easily be put off by his bold and down-to-business nature, meaning he has many acquaintances but few friends. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Ender puts his life on the line everyday along with those around him, and when a life-or-death decision comes up, he is always the first to act. Though this could be a bad thing in some situations, his quick responses often tip the scale of disasters. He has a quick wit and often has very unorthodox solutions to problems, which also comes with lots of skepticism from his peers. His job comes before everything else. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Very good. Extremely experienced, but naturally always learning! I have been roleplaying for just under ten years, in many different settings and atmospheres. Extra notes: Been playing SS13 since early 2010.
  6. I like the backstory. I can't say I have personally had any meaningful RP encounters with any of Cronac's characters, but I never hear bad things about them and things seem to go well when they're online. So, they seem to have a good understanding of RP. +1
  7. Curel Wald is an impressive character and is very well thought out. If Ricky plays his unathi like he does Curel, I think it'd be plenty of fun for everyone. +1
  8. I disagree, it wasn't due to an injury at all. He had a lot of experience doing what he did, and then when the odds were against him and his crew, he still managed to survive, if barely. That's the sort of quick thinking that NanoTrasen would value in an engineer, one that can readily adapt to many different situations and still make it out alive, WHILE doing their jobs. But as a quick edit, is that a reason you wouldn't like to see me in Head of Staff positions, specifically? Or is there another reason? I've always played as a competent engineer. I actually have never seen you play, or at least, never seen you do anything notable. I'm just responding to the app as written. I am almost always playing as a station engineer though sometimes I am RAMPANCY the AI. I guess it's normally a good thing if you don't hear an engineer screaming a lot over comms though... Tends to go with bad things.

  11. BYOND Key: Octanus Character Names: Ender Octanus Helena Octanus Outis RAMPANCY Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have played mostly as an AI or engineer on SS13 since I started playing years ago. I think that an IPC is a natural progression for me, providing for new RP opportunities in the 'computer' or synthetic mindset that I so enjoy. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are something of an oddity. They are synthetic lifeforms, much like androids and AI-slaved robots, yet they have greater freedom of will. Some IPCs might have developed something similar to a 'personality', though since this is not always the case, IPCs are very much machine-minded. Character Name: Outis Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Outis has a rather rich past, though 'he' is almost entirely unaware of it due to several incidents of memory wipes. Originally constructed as a maintenance unit aboard a research vessel belonging to the Sol Alliance, Outis was responsible for keeping the ship functional. From time to time, Outis would also be required to assist with experiments and other research tasks that were too dangerous for the human crew to perform. Outis never properly purchased its freedom. Instead, special circumstances led to its emancipation, if you will. Disaster. The research vessel was performing bio weaponry research, developing new technologies to help the struggling Sol Alliance regain its former might. But it wasn't to be, as the xeno biologists created something that should never have existed. A strange recombinant lifeform ended up killing the crew, but as Outis is not, strictly speaking, a living thing, the creature had no interest in them. This is when a search and rescue vessel came upon the drifting research ship. Its crew boarded, not knowing what was waiting for them. By this point, Outis had gone into an emergency standby mode to try to conserve power, and was this unable to warn the hapless engineers that were coming aboard. The ship was infested, eggs laid in clutches near electrical fires to soak up heat. Passive sensors suddenly reactivated Outis, and he heard screams, and the roaring of some terrible monstrosities. One engineer, Ender Octanus, found the IPC while trying to escape the 'things' that pursued him. Well equipped, Ender quickly welded the doors behind him, before turning his attention towards Outis. Outis, understanding the situation all too well, informed Ender of its lack of power, as well as the fact that the lifeforms aboard the vessel could never be permitted to leave the drifting ship. In agreement, Ender helps Outis recharge enough to assist in a daring plan: They were going to destroy this ship, and get the fuck off of it. The two made their way to the ship's reactor. It was a fusion reactor. While it was generating power, the mutant creatures had eaten through most of the power conduits in the ship, using the resulting sparks and flames as a heat source for their new hatcheries. Ender had Outis set the reactor to cascade into a supercritical state, while Ender secured a passage to his S&R ship's umbilical. The two accomplished their goals and began to board the ship when the reactor began to explode. Outis was able to get aboard the docked ship easily enough, but the sudden EMP released from the supercritical reactor caused an airlock to close onto Ender's left hand. Outis handed Ender a welder. There was only one thing to be done. When they got aboard the S&R vessel, Outis sacrificed its left hand in order to 'fix' Ender despite his protests. It wasn't long before NanoTrasen learned of the secret bio weapons program and it's demise. Ender and Outis were hired. What do you like about this character? Outis is very much an artificial lifeform, that was made with certain abilities in mind. Outis isn't like most IPCs you find aboard the NSS Exodus. 'He' isn't very sociable with non-synthetics, does not value 'his' own well-being very much, and seeks progress and results almost single-mindedly. He's fun to play as, because I love playing as AIs due to the unique 'computer-esque' mentality I get to play with. IPCs obviously have this same appeal for me. How would you rate your role-playing ability? To be honest, extremely good. I have been role playing for maybe ten years now, have been playing SS13 since the early 2010s (I think), and am experienced in role playing in any number of varieties. Notes: This will be my first non-human species if I am whitelisted. I really enjoy this community, and hope I can get some good feedback!
  12. Cultural appropriation. ... Wait...
  13. Momentum is only sometimes a thing and only sometimes works as expected. For instance, the escape shuttle. The chairs are facing east and west, or left and right depending on perspective. The engines are facing south. When the shuttle launches, you are pressed backwards into your seat despite not facing north.
  14. Forest Fucking Green 4 LYFE
  15. Welp. Ender figures that with as many accidents as there are here, it's more rewarding than his old job as a search and rescue ship crewman. Less time spending months in blue space, and more time actually welding metal, which he enjoys, He actually hates welding metal because of his eyes.
