  1. Hey this is a retrospective thought. You can also make people's aliases go away by adding them to a list but it notifies the person when you do it. This means no one can really just abuse it and add everyone to their list so they know everyone's names, and also prevents someone from staying perma alias'd to you.

  2. So basically, you create a secondary name for your character, that is more of a brief description.

Take an 18 year old small cargo technician. What she lacks in height she makes up for in breast size
    Their name is Alex White.
However, their alias is Young Woman.
Whenever she speaks, you do not see Alex White. Instead, you see Young Woman. This applies to over the radio. The only way for you to be able to see Alex White is for their player to add you to a list. Being on this list then shows Alex White, and not Young Woman. This list would persist throughout rounds.

It is a simple idea, quite dumb, but solves a lot of "i moused over the guy in the vault, i know exactly who they are", while adding a potentially good RP feature.
Is it feasible? Not a code monkey, but it might be difficult. Not sure what sort of system would be needed to make the recognition persist throughout rounds. It might be easier to just have a verb that toggles between your alias and real name.

To be honest, there are a lot of issues present with this. Aliases would become redundant unless you could change them between rounds, because people would just recognise your alias instead of name from an OOC viewpoint. Perhaps the benefits outweigh the flaws?

If you know any better ways to do this or solutions to the problems in my proposed method, that do not cause more problems of similar scale, please post them. I am not interested in issues with my method, because I know they are plentiful, but I can not conceive of ways to solve them.

  3. Your horoscope names are just months with some apostrophes and some letters thrown in or replaced. In all honesty, I find your essay content to be incredibly uninspired and bland, while simultaneously confusing. You say the cycles are a year, but also that they last ten. I'm sure you can do better than Oqtober skrell are cold-hearted. This really doesn't demonstrate your capability to write creatively.

  4. Hi, I'm the player of Za'Akaix'Ryn Zo'ra. As you can see in the logs, I am pulling punches, in an attempt to down you, because you are stabbing someone in the head with a broken bottle. I did not know the context of the fight prior to seeing this, so my character assumed you were the instigator as you were holding the weapon, and unless I am wrong, Suzuul had their skull break due to your actions, the first major injury my character witnessed. I stopped once you were down and attempted to stop anyone else from harming you. I moved to disarm Suzuul as they continued to bite you but Daniel got there first. So when you say I tried to murder your character, you are wrong, and you have proved it.

  5. With an empty hand, toggling throw intent on and on a specific intent such as harm, by clicking an item on the ground you can launch it in roughly the opposite direction with a higher throw force than regular throwing. Perhaps with or without a short timer. Kicking grenades away from your friends, or at your enemies. Kicking floor tiles into people for slightly more damage. Kick sand into people's eyes. Adding another option that serves some mechanical utility is a good thing, right?

  6. Hi, deputy here.

I've noticed a couple (hopefully) honest mistakes in your application. Firstly, you are using the C'thur "default" colouration which has since been removed from the wiki. Your character is from Vytel's brood, so they'd use Vytel's colouration.

Second, the T in C'thur shouldn't be capitalised. And you've spelt Akaix wrong.

    Question time:

How much of the Prime Means does Koliax know?

Does Koliax follow the Hive Pantheon, Preimminence or Pilot Dream religion?

    What augments does Koliax have?

How does Koliax feel toward the K'lax hive?

Crisis in 'New Detroit', Fire rages on and destruction in the district

Explosions could be heard throughout the district as a violent raze has been performed in one of it's many inactive manufacturing plants and the surrounding area around it with rubble and debris causing more havoc as the destruction continued on. Shortly after onlookers saw a secondary explosion in the plant, which shortly after started a violent fire which spread to the closely packed surrounding buildings, the origin of the explosion is theorized to be a phoron explosion with authorities questioning how such a large amount of phoron was transported so deep into the district without being noticed.

Local authorities are still mobilizing to act against the fire, the fire department chief speculating that they will arrive most likely later than they hoped for due the districts poor infrastructure which has been declining in the past due to many of these production plants no longer being needed and connecting roads being damaged not only due to the debris created by the explosion but also due to poor maintenance standards and the panic that erupted shortly after.

Several onlookers have also reported spotting a pair of mendell police vans traveling to the location prior to the explosion, with creative theories suggesting the intentional destruction of the area with statements saying: "On the scene we saw unusual equipment being hastily unloaded and deployed, people wearing heavy looking protective clothing wielding weapons entering the plant shortly after the first batch of people arrived."

((OOC: thanks to DaSmog for the article.))

  8. The boring-ness aspect is (kinda) being addressed with augments and biomods, whenever Fowl decides to actually work on them. This is a decent suggestion, but if both end up happening, I worry we might powercreep humans a little bit. What are your thoughts on this, and if you had to pick between this suggestion, being more durable, or biomods and augments, which would you go for?

While I appreciate you trying to remove the instakill meta, this is just one more rework that moves the machine race closer and closer to just being a human reskin like every other race.

Did... you read the same post everyone else did?

    Can you explain?

  10. Hi, deputy lore writer for the vaurca species here. I have a few questions, designed to test your knowledge.

Considering your character was conceived to assist with hive expansion, what exactly is Xiv capable of doing aside from mining?

What is Xiv's opinion of the other hives? What about other species?

What does Xiv think about the new K'lax High Queen?

I also bring a suggestion on how to justify your character working for NanoTrasen, and that is - money. Sources of money are always welcome for all hives.

  11. I'll shorten what was in my first post since you seem to have missed most of it.

Remove the Ka in your character's name if you intend for them to be a warrior.

Currently, your character is in the High Queen C'thur's brood via proxy of having the default C'thur body colour. Are you certain this is the [LINK]->brood<-[LINK] you would like?

Dominians would not be aggressive or rude.

On the bright side, I have clarified that there should be no reason why the C'thur and Dominia reject ambassadors, so your character concept is feasible. Which is good; I like this concept, but you aren't demonstrating the right knowledge.

  12. Hi. Deputy lore developer for vaurca here.

And my gaze has set on one of the less played species on this server: The Vuarca.

    ...ahem.

who lack any concept of religion and have a hard time understanding abstract thought.

This is untrue. Most unbound see the Queens as deities, mostly due to the fact they literally harbour an afterlife for them. What you said is near enough a direct quote from the wiki - except it was in the context of bound, which your character is not.

    Character Name: Za'Ka'Akaix'Kiiv C'thur

Za'Ka? Your vaurca is both a warrior and a worker?

A typical Dominian does not like a typical Vaurca.

Now, my knowledge of Dominia's inner workings is only what I have been able to extract from Pegasus and Zundy, but I don't see a particular reason for this to be true. As long as the vaurca in question adheres to the code of honor, there should be no reason why Dominians in particular dislike vaurca. The rule of Dominia is that if it is made to serve, but can learn, it will burn. Bound vaurca would be hated because they're similar to cyborgs, and cyborgs are similar to AI, and Dominia does not like these. I'm all for the idea that your character was sent to Dominia, however, little to no contact has been made between any of the hives and the Empire. The Aurora is one of the few places where the two would probably ever interact.

Reaching out to NT, the C'thur quickly got Kiiv hired as a bartender.

Was Kiiv ever trained to be a bartender? In fact, what was Kiiv born to do? Just be an information gatherer about Dominia? What brood are they from?

To be honest, it looks an awful lot like the "Maybe. Probably." reply to 'Have you read the lore section's page on this species' is true.

Here's a link to the C'thur broods. Read through each Lesser Queen. They're great for making backstories. Vaurca from different broods have a different colour exoskeleton, as well as different mannerisms or behaviours.

I'd provide a link to the naming convention, but it would be easier to just explain. Ka means worker. They're vaurca who are in not designed to work with or in association to weaponry. Za means warrior. While they can be born soldiers, they are not limited to this - warriors are born for anything in direct relation to weaponry - that includes other warriors. A paramedic vaurca with the backstory that they were a field medic for vaurca would be a Za. However, a vaurca born to install augments onto bound and unbound alike doesn't have to be a Za, as not all augments are weapons, and not all vaurca are Za.

In summary, your character should probably be a Ka, considering they seem to have been born to gather information. Your vaurca can only be one or the other.

I'd recommend contacting me, BygoneHero, or ParadoxSpace through the forums or Discord (JamOfBoy#5452, Syntax#1344, ParadoxSpace#6294 respectively) about your backstory so that we can ensure it holds cohesion, or if you have any questions. I'd also consider reworking the backstory and removing the Dominian aspect of it - however, it might be better to contact us about that later, as something might be figured out.

  13. Hiya! Deputy lore writer for vaurca here. Got a couple of questions/statements/things I should say to you about your application. Don't worry, these aren't the defining factor on if this passes - your application already has a lot of merit to it.

Firstly, while your backstory was creative and certainly unique, it doesn't seem to mention a brood at all. Broods can be found on the vaurca hives page here. This isn't a big issue, but you need to pick one, and your backstory might need to alter somewhat to accommodate the brood you selected.

Secondly, the recent events regarding the Lii'dra might be worth a read. Not necessary by any means, but some big stuff happened recently. You can catch up through the news articles on the forums, or if you'd want me to summarise, you can contact me through the forums or discord at JamOfBoy#5452 (or any of the vaurca lore team).

Thirdly, what is Hy's favourite food?

And last of all, what augments does Hy possess?

  14. Perhaps tying this to a verb rather than a part of the mechanics can remove some of the inherent drawbacks. What I mean by this is a button you press to do something similar to the mech charge - there is a (hopefully short) windup, including red text in the log, then you move forward 2(?) tiles. If you come into contact with another mob, your idea is the same. If a wall, door or otherwise solid object, ouch. This means no more clothesline-the-janitor as you run in to each other in the halls, while still adding another complexity to combat.

  15. Hello. Deputy lore developer for vaurca here. This application has some glaring issues.

Yes both the Vaurca and Vaurca History.

Firstly, it is quite important you also read the vaurca hives page.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

After the event with the vaurca embassador on 01-09-18, I became interested in the vaurca and after reading about them I believe they are quite fascinating in their own right.

This is great. But you were supposed to provide a paragraph for this question.

    Character Name: Ka'Viax'Naa Zora

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

This is a bound drone that has been lobotomized and augmented for the purpose of serving food to the crew of NanoTransen, delivered as part of their 'rent' for taking refugee in the Tau Ceti system.

Firstly, it is Zo'ra. You need an apostrophe there.

Secondly, your backstory needs to be approximately 2 paragraphs, whereas you have provided one line.

Thirdly, I highly discourage making a bound your application character, mostly due to the fact it is difficult to write a backstory for them.

Your application is incredibly low effort as it stands. It needs more detail. You can improve it ten-fold by replacing those singular lines with actual paragraphs, at least where it actually asks you to write paragraphs.

So please, fill out the application properly, and rethink some things. I'm looking forward to reading it once it's finished.

  16. I could have sworn I wrote a reply to this earlier, but I guess it got eaten or something. Anyway:

If we want to go deeper on why Ryn has a custom made cloak, its to highlight the brood they are from: Athvur'zekt'azi's brood. This brood is focused on the integration of human/Tau Ceti culture with vaurcan culture - vaurcan takes on human fashion, art, music, etc. which can be demonstrated through the cloak and hood. This reflects Ryn's character, as a younger vaurca with a more humanised attitude and approach on the world, similar to Athvur herself, the youngest queen, who values the cultures of other species.

Another thing is Ryn's view on the discrimination of vaurca and other species. While there are other ways to demonstrate this through a custom item application, challenging the uniform regulations was the easiest both ICly and OOCly, due to it being the issue Ryn faced the most and knows the most about - specifically that tajara are the only species with exceptions, despite other the problems other species (diona, vaurca, unathi to a lesser extent) face with clothing; and that recolouring a tunnel cloak and brown hijab to be blue is easier to do than think of a different way to demonstrate action against oppression.

  17. Actually, yes, the purpose of the cloak is to argue ICly. Tajara get exceptions to the uniform rules, but not any other species, which is odd; diona need to absorb light, unathi get cold, and vaurca need smooth textiles and baggy clothes (e.g. their hive cloaks - totally different from tunnel cloaks). The cadet uniform can't be rolled down, nor can the sleeves be rolled up. This gives a lot of players the impression that, from a roleplay perspective, the uniforms are very tight. This is not good for vaurca, as their carapace is prone to having fabric get caught between plates and causing pain while moving. This is an obvious issue, when members of security need to be quick to respond to radio call outs. When Ryn is forced into a uniform, I lower their movement speed to demonstrate this. Your arguments are valid, and that is the point of the cloak. The cloak isn't a uniform, but does demonstrate security colours, so people would still want Ryn into a uniform, to which I'd state all of the above to them.

  18. While I haven't had any deep, ultimate interactions with any of Doxxmedearly's characters I can say that, from what I understand, the minor interactions I have had, and as other people have stated, they seem like they'd be able to roleplay a member of the tajara race well. They have a great ethic to roleplay in general, which I have seen by simply interacting with them, and I'm sure they'd be a welcome addition to the constantly expanding harems and cliques of the species -- uh. I'm sure they'll retain that unique spark in Nahjiya that all their other characters possess. +1 from me.
