  1. A+ Doctor and an A+ guy. I give my +1.
  2. Personally, I always try to negotiate with terrorists. This is one part me being an unrobust coward, but mostly because hostage negotiation is fun! Most importantly, it doesn't result (directly) in a player being taken out of the game, which is what I think we should all try to avoid.
  3. I don't dislike this idea, but are breaker boxes really THAT critical? I might just be ignorant here - most likely, anyway - But I don't think I've seen them used in any real capacity, for good or evil.
  4. If genetics was shared with Medical and Research, would IT be shared with Research and Engineering? I really like the Traitor items - especially the IR Scrambler, and having a job that focuses around the use (and potential abuse) of Cameras is pretty awesome. That said, I think we'd need to really expand on what the IT Department's duties are before it can become its own job. I've got a couple ideas to that end. -Camera maintenance is a given. Following the theme if their unique items, IT should be well-equipped to place, upgrade and repair cameras. Maybe a cameras are randomly non-functioning at the start of every round? -Computers. Circuit boards and junk are kind of an R&D thing, but I think it'd be pretty great if the IT Department had a circuit imprinter so they could build computers where those computers needed to be built. And maybe arcade games, too! -Telcom maintenance. As I recall it, the Telcom satellite is kind of a shared responsibility between the CE and RD? If it becomes IT's primary responsibility, that'd be a resolution - especially since most players don't ever get a chance to use that equipment. Sure there's grief potential, but this IS SS13. -Laptops and PDAs. Laptops are pretty rad, and as someone who plays a lot of Medical, I really appreciate having them. But a vending machine that creates them is a little ridiculous. I think it'd be pretty awesome if IT had to build/distribute them, or at least had access to better Laptops than the vending machines offer. Along with spare PDAs and their modules. And dutiful assistants would love to have modules on-hand to help out in the field, right? -Somebody mentioned recently that the Roboticist could be something of an expert on Synth psychology and development. This duty could easily be shared with IT. There's even space for IT, as I see it - between secure storage and the mining portion of Cargo, if IT doesn't just encompass secure storage entirely. It doesn't have to be big, after all. Any IT department I've been in has been a little cramped and full of equipment. They'd be in the perfect spot to work with Engineering, near what I see to be their Primary duties - the AI Upload and the Telcom satellite. Maybe they even have a tiny server to maintain the Station-bounced radios? Though I can see why you'd want to keep those foolproof. Long story short, I love the idea of an IT department and will likely be coming back with more ideas when I'm not on my phone at work. -Maybe IT can build computers that use ThinkDOS or DWAINE? I dunno. Programming in-game computers would be kind of fun, I know I had similar good times puzzling out ComputerCraft in Minecraft.
  5. I always enjoy interacting with Pyro's characters, even in passing. He gets a +1 from me, I think he'll make for a fun and interesting IPC.
  6. I'm at an impasse, here. I really like the blue uniforms, but I love the look of the red security wing. Maybe we could go Bluespec for everything but the Armory/Brig? Or have the Warden/Detective uniforms and areas be red to further indicate that they aren't Security Officers.
  7. Solid recommendation! Following your advice, I think I've got a much more cohesive application, overall. Thanks!
  8. Hi! Thanks for the positive feedback. And any sort of feedback, really. Your questions and concerns are totally valid. As I was writing this, I wanted to use a lack of pronouns as a deliberate choice. This was my way of showing how insignificant the detail was to Aleish'tah, and perhaps other Skrell. Unfortunately, you're right - I went completely overboard and left out anything pertaining to her personal life. This was absolutely a deliberate decision on how to portray Aleish'tah's narrative, and not at all my tendency to get tunnel vision and focus on a couple particular subjects. 100%. Since WIP posts are a no-no here, I'll just hope that Aleish'tah's lack of a social life doesn't sink my application entirely.
  9. BYOND Key: depandio Character Names: Makenna Ward, Sadie Anderson, Paige Vause, Danica Campbell Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Greenish-Blue ( #00868B ) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Absolutely! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've enjoyed roleplaying with Skrell since joining the game, and their lore fascinates me. Even without being amphibious, playing a character from such an old and established culture is an appealing challenge. With the current Antagonist contest going on, now feels like the perfect time to finally put in the Whitelist application! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell are from a much older and more distinguished culture than humanity, especially in terms of their military. They're also basically asexual, which really aught to have some interesting affects on one's personal and professional life. They have - or aught to have - an inherent distrust of Synthetic life, thanks to Glorsh-Omega. And of course, they have a limited and selective diet. In particular, I love the idea of Qeblak and Weishii as almost secular religions - Spiritual faiths based largely on gut feeling and personal identity. Character Name: Aleish'tah Zrgaat Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Like most Skrell, Aleish'tah is an accomplished Scientist - though not nearly as accomplished as Aleish'tah would claim. Impetuous, imperious and prideful, Aleish'tah has spent the bulk of their adult life working alongside other professionals in various pseudo-medical fields - most notably Genetic and viral research. As Genetic research has become less and less of a thing aboard Nanotrasen facilities, though, Aleish'tah has had to adapt to the changing times. This is a bitter pill to swallow. Earning one's pay is one thing, but being reassigned because your field no longer has value tends to sting the pride of any professional. As a doctor, Aleish'tah is calm, professional and as efficient as possible - no matter how annoyed they may find themselves. While perhaps slightly young and temperamental for a Skrell, Aleish'tah still largely presents as stoic and reasonable to other species, as a point of pride. At heart, Aleish'tah is still a researcher and occasionally attempts to push the limits of modern medicine a little further whenever the opportunity presents itself. Aleish'tah is no less frustrated by off-duty life, unfortunately. Carrying a record marred by bad luck, bad investments and bad choices that all of the forethought in the world couldn't prevent, Aleish'tah frequently (and silently) wonders if they've spent too many years invested in medical science to change their field of study, or if they'd be better off staying the course. After all, woefully few physicians have made it a point to know to nuances of Skrell biology or physiology. Is it better to pursue one's passions, or be a credit to your fellows? A hard choice, and one that Aleish'tah will not make without significant thought. The bulk of Aleish'tah's time, attention, and ego is tied up in their work - to the point where it can be hard to tell if the stern woman has a life outside of her professional pursuits at all. This isn't lost on Aleish'tah in the slightest, who occasionally decides that NOW is the proper time to go about making friends as an adult, only to experience an embarrassing (and typically minor) faux pas and return to throwing themself back into work. Aleish'tah would much rather be seen as distant and aloof than insecure and socially awkward, after all. This bizarre ritual isn't lost among Aleish'tah's (comparatively) large extended family. Aleish'tah's choice to work in the private, corporate sector is a contentious one among her siblings and parents - who, like many Skrell, find the efficient controlled chaos of a military career appealing. Although there is little to no bad blood between Aleish'tah and her family, their respective lifestyles and her general lack of consideration means that contact is infrequent - typically for important familial events, or when coincide contrives a circumstance where Aleish'tah is nearby enough that NOT stopping in would be rude. Aleish'tah, like most of her family, follows the Qeblak faith - more as a matter of course and hair than any deliberate effort to maintain faith. Aleish'tah privately believes that many of the small rituals and celebrations inherent in Weishii have merit, though, and will sometimes experiment with Weishii structure during the rare times she feels especially pious or moved by the stars. What do you like about this character? I really love the idea of a quietly frustrated and struggling Skrell - as stoic and capable as any Skrell can be expected to be, but suffering a minor crisis of faith under the surface. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm not sure how to answer this, but I've been roleplaying most of my life and like to think I'm pretty capable. Notes:
