We need to do something about antags/security/command.
DAUnHolyKnight replied to BurgerBB's topic in General
I honestly agree with everything Burger is saying here, hell I even know first hand that this is pretty much at least most of the time how things turn out. I learned that through playing numerous rounds of antag as well as numerous rounds of non-antag. I've played in most departments other than two so far and from what I have seen the one department I have worked in that just so happens to almost ALWAYS get the most time and interaction with the antag was security. Granted yeah it makes sense seeing that theyre the ones who perform the arrest and so on but there have been times where as an antag I actively WANT to interact with the crew however the only possible way for me to do so is by going loud and dangerous. Whenever I try to play stealthy or anything of that sort I almost always end up having to interact with security the most just because of the fact that if I don't I'm afraid they'll go all gun ho with their dicks out and fuck my gimmick up. I'm all for any changes that can be made to fix this but theres a lot of different issues at play, validing among sec is extremely high to the point that no matter the gimmick no matter how truthful you are they always seem to be out for blood or out for some form of confrontation. To make things harder is when you have antags who have maybe never played antag before, never played on aurora prior to this antag round or are brand spanking new and playing antag, this sorta shit really makes things a pain in the ass. Not to mention the fact that it honestly feels like people are less and less interested in genuine deep character roleplay and more interested in just having some bloody fight or stupid shit like that. -

I did actually play a round or two as a virologist when either it was really late time wise for me and not many active people on the server or when there were other surgeons active. I did this not as an actual canon RP but more-so I just was curious how it worked and wanted to see how it was. I only have one character made and probably should have made a different one to play in those jobs but in the end Dr.James has been, is, and always will be a Surgeon and nothing more. I apologize if that caused confusion or anything I just wanted to try something else out and ended up using the same character to do so. EDIT: Apologies for that Sharp, hopefully that doesn't cause any issues lol. Leave it to me to make peeps confused #feelsbadman

BYOND key: DAUnHolyKnight Character names: Gregory James How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Hard to say, I've had an account on the forums for almost a year however I had been playing on the Aurora for a while before that (I sort of didn't realize there was a forum until one day I couldn't see the server (Hidden Weekend) and so I began digging) Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I love Medicine, both IRL and within the game. I've played countless rounds and hours and only a few times have I ever played with a CMO on (Probably due to the times in which I play) and so I'd really like to be able to take the reigns on a department I love and thoroughly enjoy. Why did you come to Aurora?: Oh boy, well I believe I originally played on Aurora as one of my first servers when I was first getting into Space Station, I loved it, but I went and tried the waters of a few different servers but every single time, I kept comparing them to how much I enjoyed my time with Aurora and unfortunately for the other servers they always fell short of what I expected, and so eventually I just decided to make Aurora my home. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes I have, a few times by now actually, been considering applying for a long while now but never did. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the act of personifying and acting as ones character would if that character were real. Roleplaying can sometimes be stressful, while other times be entirely comical. However your experience goes with roleplaying one of the biggest things for me anyways is that you take your character seriously. Now of course everyone should be able to have a bit of fun but when you're in character you should be behaving in the way that your character should. This is also one of the big reasons I believe that every character needs to have some sort of a backstory since a persons background past history heavily influences the way in which they go about behaving and the decisions they make when faced with a decision. Roleplaying is to me, pretty much storytelling. You take your character and his/her flaws and attitudes and beliefs and you craft a story from it. The way your character talks, the way he/she goes about fulfilling their job is all heavily invested within your character and his/her background (and your seriousness of the roleplay). What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A Head of Staff to me is someone who holds an extremely important position within the game. Their position is the embodiment and command of whichever branch/wing/department they are a part of. Their job is to ensure that the members who are roleplaying under them within their department are fulfilling the expectations and requirements for their role and the department as a whole. They act as the commanding officer of their branch all serving together with the other CO's, when they allow rampant RP to occur under their watch other departments and members suffer because of it and so a Head of Staff is to me somewhat of a valuable knowledgebase/ mentor as well as a enforcer of the server rules and roleplay expectations. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players hold a position that they have to be given (apply for). It is their responsibility to ensure that other whitelisted members aren't abusing their privilege of whatever they have been whitelisted for, as well as ensuring that they themselves do not allow the fact that they've been whitelisted begin to meld into their behavior and act differently (as if their higher up) then those that aren't. On top of that if you're whitelisted for a position of power than you need to ensure that you fulfill that position as it should be fulfilled as well as fulfill it within the rules. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Gregory James Character age: 49 Years Old Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Gregory James is a 49 year old Earth born human. He was born into what he considered an average family, and an average home. Greg was a somewhat quiet nerdy child that kept to himself. He made a few friends as he grew older however due to some childhood trauma he never fully trusted those around him and would continue to suffer from trust issues for a handful of years. When he was first asked what he wanted to do in his life he said that he wanted to be a doctor, though this of course changed throughout the years in the end he became just that. Greg graduated near the top of his class in High School and proceeded to College to obtain an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. After that he went on to the University to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, it was during this time that he learned how much he loved Psychology but how much more he loved Medicine as he interned with his Universities Health Center. Following his graduation he headed straight to Medical School. He had weighed whether he wanted to obtain his Masters first however in the end he chose to go directly to obtain his Medical Degree. Throughout the next handful of years Greg obtained his M.D with a Specialization in Neurology, he also married his High School sweetheart Emily at the age of 31 after being together for over 16 years. A year later they had their first and only child, a baby girl named Rose'Marie. It was the years following their daughters birth that things fell apart for Greg. Greg had never been a loyal supporter of NanoTrasen and often he spoke out against them and their practices within his medical journals. As time went on Greg began to become somewhat worried that people were beginning to turn against him and that people may be "out to get him". He continuously had phone calls that had nobody on the other line, he would see someone following him only to be swapped out with what looked to be someone else. In the end a mixture of his paranoia, dangerous driving conditions and maybe something else led to an automobile accident that ended up costing the lives of his daughter and wife. Though there was no evidence of what caused the accident, however the accident caused two casualties and caused Greg to lose both of his eyes and his left hand due to the trauma that had occurred. After a few years he had fully recovered from the accident and the injuries sustained Greg wanted to immerse himself within his love for medicine and so he accepted NanoTrasens job offer and left Earth behind....giving him a chance to maybe finally deal with the tragedy and loss he has experienced. What do you like about this character?: I love this character because he shares a few similarities with myself as well as the fact that I love that he isn't perfect. He has flaws within his personality and the way I roleplay him. Granted at times tragedy is somewhat of a cliche however I feel that his tragedy adds to his character, since he has had to deal with such trauma he has his outer persona but deep down he's so much more complex and dark. Complexity is by far the most enjoyable persona I can have when roleplaying. On top of that I like that with this character I can slowly build his story further if I so choose. What do you dislike about this character?: Now I made this character the way he is purely because I didn't want to have any dislikes however after the many hours I think some of the stuff I don't like is that he sometimes is a bit limited, if his deeper sides aren't explored (not given the chance to) then he can feel somewhat standard, cookie cutter. However for the most part I don't end up running into any issues other than if the shift is going incredibly slow. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: This character loves medicine. It has been his life and it's the only thing he has left. The position of CMO would be all that he has and so he would fight tooth and nail to make sure that he upholds that position to the best of his ability. On top of that he is also deeply kind and all he wants is to help people and medicine was the way for him to help and heal those in need. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I think I would rate my roleplay fairly high due to the amount of years that I personally have been roleplaying (D&D was mine and my dad's thing when I was growing up) plus roleplaying is genuinely fun and awesome even if the situations are sad or stressful I love it. (Recently I got tricked into meeting a detective while I was a revolutionary and the detective and his "friend" turned out to be loyalists and put me down lol I genuinely didn't see it coming and I LOVED it.)
