I feel like that's a pretty weak reason, tbh. Not being in a mood to play spess game, is one thing, and being inactive for a whole year another.

I don't agree that it's a weak reason at all. People can easily burn out of spess, if they hyperfixate on it for too long. But, eventually, I'll want to play it again. I'll want to play Command, but if I have to re-apply for Command, that's not going to incentivize me to return to Aurora.

Some people may have outstanding circumstances that prevent them from being able to play Aurora for a year. Others, may just not have the interest to play at the current point in time.

I know that my stance is an unpopular one, and I'm okay with that. I simply think that outright stripping whitelists is a bad move.

  2. As one of the people who frequently is inactive, I don't agree with this. On the basis that I'm not always in an SS13 mood. Why am I being punished for that, by having my whitelist stripped?

It doesn't incentivize older players to return at all.

Now, if inactive players were on a stricter guideline for Command whitelists? That'd be more ideal, since you're just being put on watch while you're not as familiar with the current status of things!

Played a round with Captain Dalton (as my trial RD), they were calm and reasonable in their interactions and were very easy to RP with - I only wish I could have joined them for coffee in the break room when they let the other command staff know. Doubleplus good!

    +1

I think you might be thinking of the round with Head of Security Dalton and Captain Stern. They both look similar and speak with Solarian accents, but Stern is played by SebKiller.

  4. I've held off on making a post about the Cones until I could get a decent amount of playtime with them, and I have to say that I am simply not a fan of them.

Combat is already a convoluted mess in SS13 as it is, and the Vision Cones make every single shootout, brawl, or scramble that I've been involved in look like a Three Stooges skit. While the idea of sneaking up behind someone is a cool novelty, I don't think it really is worth it, considering the clumsiness that follows with everything else.

Xenobiology is where my main complaints come in.

I used to play Xenobiology rather regularly, as it was rather easy to get into the flow of things. I could easily click behind myself to drag slimes out of containment pens, and drag mass numbers of them in a short few moments. With the Vision Cones, however, it makes it an effort of 'how long am I going to put up with this before I give up and go to Cryo'. What would've been a five second endeavor, now increases to a ten to fifteen second endeavor. These times stack up, and what would normally take around five to ten minutes to complete, now takes upwards of twenty to twenty five.

While minor, I believe that this issue extends to any Department that requires a lot of dragging multiple objects.

Personally I think the Hooliganism charge suffices. If you're making an excessive mess, only then should security be called. Otherwise we're going to likely have trigger happy power tripping officers arresting anyone over a dropped cigarette.

Hooliganism can only barely be stretched to fit it. We had a discussion about it ICly, and according to the text as written, it's not really justifiable in that regard.

At least, that's how we took it. I just figured it'd be an interesting suggestion, at least for discussion.

Four is my second all time favorite for multiplayer behind only two. Don't @ me, shit was great and 3 SUCKS.

Fours multiplayer was eh, at best, for me. I enjoy 3 over 2, but Reach over the entire series.

  7. Like a Necromancer, I bring this post back to life.

With Halo out on the PC, who would be interested in playing through the Campaign, or doing some Multiplayer?

  8. -1, I would immediately attempt to ghost/cryo if forced to play as Cult. There's a reason I have it turned off in the preferences. Make it kill, or as someone else mentioned, have it turn them into a simple mob.

There's no reason to try and force people to play something they don't want to play.

While I have no concerns regarding your roleplay, you do play antag a LOT, which I'd recommend toning down for your command characters. People will get used to seeing them on the manifest and going "oh no not again" because they'll come to expect them as antag.

That's a fair point. I don't intend to have antag on as my Head of Staff roles, at least for a while.

  10. BYOND key: Valkrae
Character names: Rrkrakhaz Njakalraj, Nadia Grzywacs, Quaesh Xelpo, Brimstone, Robert Dalton, some other throwaways used to learn departments.
How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Off and on since 2014.
Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I had it before, and I really enjoyed the Command playstyle.
Why did you come to Aurora?: I enjoy SS13, but I enjoy my RP to be rather serious. The other servers never did it for me, as it was more LRP and MRP in the ancient days. There weren't a whole lot of other options to go for, so Aurora it was. And I keep coming back.
Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, I have.
Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've received five notes on the server, and one synthban.

Most of my notes are for going SSD as a Head of Staff, which is what caused my whitelist removal in the first place. One, however, is for using lethal force when not needed. I haven't had any other notes since 2018. The synthban was when I first joined the Aurora, and was appealed.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about playing a character. To me, I think roleplaying is about making a concept, and playing that concept out in an environment that you don't control. It's different from simply writing, because other people have input. Other characters that other people are playing come in and out of your characters life, and change them. For better or for worse.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Well, several things. Firstly, to ensure that Departments are able to run smoothly, and without issue or hiccup. In the case of some Heads, their role is vital to the station. Secondly, it can help new players be taught much easier, as they have someone with a wealth of knowledge that they can rely to properly show them the ropes of that department. Lastly, and most importantly for me, they're there to enable RP that some in their department would like to pursue. For example, take the Research Director and the Expeditions. Without an RD, Science can't prepare for an Expedition together, unless a Captain approves it. An RD brings the Department together, and creates a mass of RP that can change characters.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are, to put it simply, people that the Staff believe are capable and competent enough to have access to otherwise restricted things. They're trusted to set good examples for the majority of the playerbase, and create good RP with the access they've been given.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The Phoron shortages have had a profound effect on my Science-based characters. Quaesh Xelpo, my Skrell Xenobiologist, has been rather pleased with the Phoron shortage. With slimes being one of the sure fire ways of producing Phoron naturally, it's allowed her to further her studies into Slimes and their anomalous properties. On the other hand Rrkrakhaz Njakalraj, my Tajaran Scientist, looks upon it distantly. While it doesn't directly affect him, he doesn't have full access to Phoron in order to conduct his weapon experiments.

Most of my other characters don't really interact with Phoron all that much, as they're either Xenoarchaeologists or Security, and have only recently come back to work.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Probably a mix of Research Director, Head of Security, and Consular Officer.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

    Quaesh Xelpo - Research Director
Robert Dalton - Head of Security
Ozymandias Manderly - Tau Ceti Representative

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Honestly? I'd rate it as a solid 7.5/10. I'm not the best at creating interesting characters that people look to as examples of 'good RPing'. At best, my characters are middling. I like to think they're somewhat realistic, however, and grounded in reality.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes, as it has been stripped for me going SSD already.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes, at least for the ones I plan to play.

    Extra notes:

    1. I've since moved from where I lived when I initially accrued all those SSD notes. I lived in the middle of a forest, and my internet connection was spotty at best. Now, I live in town, and have a more stable internet connection.

    2. If you have any questions, I will answer them as quickly, and effectively as I am capable of.
