  1. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Firstact Character Name(s): D'Jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani, Na'Khar Sa'Kuate, Da'hadir Naziim, and Nafisha Prruzhulkanich are my currently active characters. AI Name(s): N/A Discord username + tag: Firstact #0049 Age: 21 Timezone: US Mountain UTC - 7:00 When are you on Aurora?: Anywhere from 6/7pm to 2am, but I am not on consistent scheduling so that is bound to change. Experience How long have you played SS13?: 9 years How long have you played on Aurora: 4 years or around two months after the server started, I can't remember quite how long. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I know almost everything about the in-game mechanics of bay, both dated and new. I also have extensive experience with server owner level permissions, top to bottom, from prior head admin experience. I also know a fair amount of TG code (somewhat outdated) and helped develop a lot of the nice quality of life changes at Apoc station. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes, I was a mod on Apocalyptic station for 6 months, then I became an admin for 8 months, to which I was then promoted to head admin for about 2 and a half years before I officially quit, and joined Aurora. I also served short stints as head admin for a game forum for 6 months (that project died) and have misc. experience hosting and/or moderating game servers for about 1 and a half years after apoc began to split up. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Once, for two hours, and it was my first time playing the game so I'd say it's not notable. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I have a hard time enjoying this game to be honest, but I keep coming back because of those golden rounds where there's actual roleplay, nobody is toxic, and everyone can try and have fun. Those are rather sparse, but they really are one of the only good aspects about the game itself. Why do you play on Aurora?: Simply because i'm invested and it's one of the better communities in ss13 all around. It has ups and downs pretty drastically, and the drama is irritating, but I can still find enjoyment with the players and characters. What do moderators do?: Moderators on Aurora are a little strange compared to those often on other servers, but their role has become more concrete as the staff has expanded. On Aurora they are held to a higher standard than others as they are in charge of monitoring the events that take place during the rounds, as well as settling disputes between players, making sure the gameplay flows smoothly, giving warnings/bans, and settling disputes between players or staff on the forum complaints. They have nearly as much responsibility as an Admin typically does, with the exception of gameplay altering commands. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To be a moderator for Aurora is mainly what I stated above. Mods help maintain a standard among the server and tend to be much more flexible and meant to fill time slots than admins are, as mods are in much higher amounts that the admin staff typically are, and the time zones vary enough that even now, there's almost always a mod on. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I have plenty of experience and would be a good fit for the staff team, and I want to actually see a change in the staff and how things are handled. So far the changes that have been put through have really added to the quality of life on the server, but I still believe we can do better and I wish to be a part of that. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Due to past experience I believe I can handle situations involving multiple players and/or rulebreaking very well, and I can often talk situations out with the ones involved. I'm lenient enough to give people a chance and only hit them with a warning or a chance to redeem themselves, but I know quite clearly when a ban is needed or when something has gone too far. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: They don't phase me, and likely never will. Someone typing "mean words" over their anger at a 2D roleplaying game is their own problem. As a member of staff I will attempt to help them or talk to them about their actions, however I'm not going to jump to an instant ban for someone calling me a cunt just because I PM'd them about a name change. Anything Else You Want to Add: About half of this is a repost from my original application, and the other half was freshly written. I was told to just repost it and I see no reason to change most of the answers.
  2. On further consideration perhaps 2 weeks was too long of a ban, considering you expressed willingness to improve in antagonist roles while talking. However, you need to keep in mind that this ban was caused by repeated behavior, and it shouldn't be repeated once it's over. There is one thing you need to understand as well, however. Killing the engineer and the others wasn't a huge issue, having the tajaran attack someone in the bar, was not an issue. Taking someone out of the round with minimal rp to the point where they didn't even know who gave the dominate command, was the issue, and the ganking rule isn't specific to certain antag actions, it's general to make you aware that antagonists are there to provide roleplay first and foremost. I believe once you take these into account and are able to actually play antagonists again, you'll be fine, if you are willing to put roleplay above winning. As for right now I'm going to lower it to 1 week in the hopes that you actually read this and took it into account, just keep in mind what happens if it's repeated again.
  3. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Firstact Character Name(s): D'Jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani, Na'Khar Sa'Kuate, Da'hadir Naziim, and Nafisha Prruzhulkanich are my currently active characters. AI Name(s): Don't have a consistent AI. Preferred means of contact: Discord @ Firstact #0049 or steam at Firstact1211/firstact, I tend not to realise I get replies via email in terms of the forums as they get buried instantly. Age: 20, coming on 21 Timezone: US Mountain time (UTC - 07:00) When are you on Aurora?: My time zones may vary as I switch jobs and/or move, again. But as of right now i'm typically on from 6/8pm-7am US Mountain time Experience How long have you played SS13?: For just about 9 years. How long have you played on Aurora: Just about 4 years now I believe, I started playing a few months after the split. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I know almost everything about the in-game mechanics of bay, both dated and new. I also have extensive experience with server owner level permissions, top to bottom, from prior head admin experience. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes, I was a mod on apoc station for 6 months, then I became an admin for 8 months, to which I was then promoted to head admin for about 2 and a half years before I officially quit, and joined Aurora. I also served short stints as head admin for a game forum for 6 months (that project died) and have misc. experience hosting and/or moderating game servers for about 1 and a half years after apoc began to split up. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I've only been banned one time while playing ss13, and that was for 2 hours for killing someone on my very first round ever, on Apoc. Jesus that was stupid. Personality Why do you play SS13?: Honestly the gameplay isn't the most fun, but there is one reason in particular I seem to come back to Aurora time after time, and that's the community, that aspect of this game, whether the server is Light RP or Heavy RP, or just CM, will always bring me back for years. Why do you play on Aurora?: There's a lot of problems with Aurora and I won't lie about that, but most of the players are fun to talk to, and to roleplay with, and the staff has made incredible improvements over the past few years, which is why i'm only applying now, instead of after the first year when I was talking with Skull about applying. What do moderators do?: Moderators on Aurora are a little strange compared to those often on other servers, but their role has become more concrete as the staff has expanded. Moderators on Aurora are held to a higher standard than others as they are in charge of monitoring the events that take place during the rounds, as well as settling disputes between players, making sure the gameplay flows smoothly, and also handing out warnings I believe. They have nearly as much responsibility as an Admin typically does, with the exception of gameplay altering commands and I believe they cannot ban as well, as that is meant to be a more severe punishment. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I meant to apply years ago, and I was even talking with the primary staff at the time (scopes, skull, sue, etc) about applying for admin duties, but I decided that after the past few years of being an admin I just wanted to play and organize my real life situation as I was going through school at the time. I have prior experience with both mod and admin duties, and I really want Aurora to improve, and I believe that being even a small part of the team can help with such. I'm out of school now, I have plans for the future, and nothing to really interrupt me anymore, so I believe I can set aside the time required to competently fill a role as mod while still having a normal life outside ss13. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Due to past experience dealing with plenty of furious players typing away insults when issued a warning or even a simple "why did you do X?" I know that these words are typically just a desperate lash out to try and prove themselves innocent, so I tend not to react to them at all, because I know that if they simply continue with the insults and don't help their own situation out I am not the one affected by it. Anything Else You Want to Add: It seems staff have different responsibilities than I usually see on some servers, so for clarification, my run as "Head Admin" of Apoc station had me overseeing the entire admin team (which was decently large at about 18 people) and partially managing the much larger moderator team, who had their own Head mod, which was one of my admins. I believe I could fill the role of a mod rather well even if it doesn't fit my expectations of how the staff actually work on Aurora, since I rarely get a glimpse into what goes on in asay or msay. Edit: Formatting for ease of reading.
  4. Note of Importance: This is primarily a re-posting of an old app from august with a few touch-ups. This was discussed with a staff member in charge of heads of staff and approved as the last one was denied simply due to my lack of consistent internet access, which meant that I could not play the character in question nearly at all for them to monitor me. I'm aware there have been some format and/or rule changes by then and I will be changing parts of this application to abide by them if I see anything that doesn't fit well. BYOND key: Firstact Character names: D'Jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani, Da'Hadir Naz'im, Faraji Raashad, Na'Khar Sa'kuate How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 3 and a half years. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Originally, I already held a head of staff whitelist, however it was removed due to staff assuming I was ignoring messages, while I was actually in an extended stay at the hospital, first in the ER for a few days and then transferring over to the ICU for a large amount of time. However, recently I have noticed that the amount of heads of staff have dwindled pretty significantly to where there is an average of 1-2 heads of staff at best during my playtime hours, and the relative departments really seem to be lackluster in communication without dedicated leadership to take point. Why did you come to Aurora?: I transferred over to Aurora from Apocalyptic station after bouncing around years ago, due to the roleplaying standards on Apoc going from phenomenal to absolute chaos most of the time. I've stuck around ever since because, while I may take extended leaves at points, the community has always brought me back. Have you read the wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, I primarily plan on renewing D'Jar as HoS, and likely bringing in a CE at some point in time and a CMO. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about working within the limitations of a character to provide diversity and enjoyment from a multitude of situations and and other people. It's about creating an eviroment and community base that is fun to play within for the players and characters alike. Roleplay is about creating an environment in which each character is both unique but believable with each person having their own motives, strengths, weaknesses, and overall furthers the enjoyability of the game in their own way through the character. Roleplay should mainly be focused on having fun, because that should be the main purpose for anyone attempting to play a non-competitive game. There are obviously some restrictions to roleplay, but it's the players choice on how they will have fun, and act out their character for the benefit of themselves and possibly others. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of staff serve multiple purposes ooc, however there are two that stand out in specific to me. Firstly, heads of staff tend to steer the direction of a round, the kind of roleplay that takes place, and has the ability to create situations in which roleplay is available much easier than your average character, via in game authority and experience. Secondly, these experienced players are an easy resource for newer players to access and talk to, for a variety of needs. They may set an example of great roleplay, help them familiarize with the server, or assist someone completely new in a way such as teaching them the basics of their department and their duties in game. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe the primary responsibility for us is to set a standard of roleplay, especially when it comes to antagonists and events. Heads of staff are typically the first ones to hear alerts, talk amongst themselves, and then react accordingly with their departments. They are the ones in charge, and a calm head of security who is cautiously wishing to negotiate with an antag can make all the difference between security waiting in the wings to step in, or a lone officer rushing in and getting a hostage killed. Of course, the latter has to do more with admins due to potentially breaking rules, but it's about the standards that are set for others to acknowledge. Heads of staff are supposed to know more about lore, gameplay mechanics, roleplay, and the server as a whole, which props them up into a position that others can easily go to and ask question, IC and OOC both. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: D'Jar Sa'Kuate Character age: 35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): D'Jar Sa'Kuate was born shortly after his older brother Na'Khar, just before the first revolution, his father was killed in action during the later uprisings, and his mother was killed during a large bombing against Shastar city, carried out by the nobles later into the revolution. He and Na'Khar were taken in by a young shopkeeper in the aftermath, and proceeded to stay in Shastar after the island was secured in the uprisings. For many years they worked for the shopkeeper in exchange for food and a place to stay. By 2443, D'Jar and his brother were enlisted in the People's Army of Adhomai. His brother fulfilled his mandatory two year service as a navy sailor, while D'Jar stayed enlisted until early 2453. After seeing roughly two years of action on the Shastar front, and being injured during the siege of Shastar, D'Jar paid for a short visitation to Tau Ceti, and arranged contact with his brother who was working within the region. After arriving on a visitation visa with all of the money he could transfer to credits, he managed to find his brother with some assistance and stayed with him. D'Jar requested citizenship while his brother paid for tau ceti basic classes. Months later after background checks and testing, he was granted a work visa, which he used to attend basic tau ceti law school and immigration counceling, in hopes to find a career that suited his former military skills and to adapt to an actual job market with the help of his sibling. In 2454 D'Jar was accepted into the Mendel city police cadet system, in order to fulfill a diversity quota, as well as interest due to his former military service. By late 2454 D'Jar was employed as a full time police officer upon completing his cadet program, and was stationed in the industrial district, helping him eventually secure a full citizenship into Tau Ceti. By late 2457 D'Jar left the police force in search for better work due to completing his criminal justice degree, in an attempt to pay off his brothers schooling debt. He was shortly hired on by Nanotrasen around christmas of 2457 as a security officer level 1, and briefly was granted head of security clearance aboard the late Aurora, and the Exodus class stations before transferring to the Aurora II under basic security restrictions once more. What do you like about this character?: He's Changed a lot throughout the years, but he's matured enough to stop and try to talk things out with people, he attempts to calmly resolve situations instead of rushing in with his baton out, and I at least try to make him act in a believably professional manner of someone who is corporate security and protective of his crewmates. And not someone who is here to shoot at their own co-workers with a taser and laugh about how fun it was. What do you dislike about this character?: I've been trying to find a good political stance for him for a while now, especially following the changes that rolled out around summertime this year. It's a subject that has potential to fit well in his character and yet I have trouble finding what he would agree/disagree with regarding tajara lore. However, I have for the most part improved on this and given him a place to sit since I last posted this application, and I'm continuing to work on changing him to be a more believable character. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's been a head of staff before (and would be for reasons I stated before) and from what I remember, he was generally well liked. He managed security well and prefers to actually let his officers perform the work first, while still willing to put himself in those tough situations that officers may face. But he acknowledges that security will always need a leader in tough situations, and attempts to act on that accordingly. The traits that make him a good fit for a head of staff are also some of the reasons I actually like playing him as a character. Not everything needs to be rushing to grab the guns and shoot the baddies, which almost always results in casualties of civilian crew and sec alike, something that he would prefer to avoid if in charge. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I don't really wish to rate my own roleplaying, and I prefer others to voice their opinions for me to take it and adapt to. I believe I'm fairly average or above average at roleplaying, in the context of someone who's very into it and likes to write stories. I try to limit myself and my characters to create believable situations without being over the top power-fantasy archetypes. For ss13 specifically I really enjoy playing someone who doesn't know everything, as I don't see the fun in having an over the top character who can do multiple things or play as some ridiculous ex-specops undercover PRA agent. Extra notes: Backstory change completed, please comment if anything seems out of place or the dates don't line up with in game records and/or my own claims.
  5. Important note: I currently have very limited internet access/no access at all, so that would be the reason not many people have seen me on playing D'Jar or in general lately. I should have internet back up within 2 weeks or so. BYOND key: Firstact Character names: D'Jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani, Da'Hadir Naz'im, Faraji Raashad, Na'Khar Sa'kuate How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About 3 to 3 and a half years. His brother fulfilled his mandatory two year service as a navy sailor, while D'Jar stayed enlisted until 2453. After seeing roughly two years of action on the Shastar front, and being injured during the siege of Shastar, D'Jar smuggled himself on board a human trade vessel in order to seek transport to tau ceti, where his brother was attending medical school on a students work visa. After arriving and attempting to bribe one of the human crew members with all of his Adhomai currency, he managed to find his brother with some assistance and stayed with him. D'Jar requested citizenship (im not sure if the immigration from 2456 is still in the lore) while his brother paid for tau ceti basic classes. Months later after a basic citizenship examination, he was granted basic citizenship, which he used to attend basic tau ceti law school, in hopes to find a career that suited his former military skills. In 2454 D'Jar was accepted into the Mendel city police cadet system, in order to fulfill a diversity quota, as well as interest due to his former military service. By 2455 D'Jar was employed as a full time police officer, stationed in the industrial district, where many of the immigrants from Moghes and Adhomai stayed. By 2457 D'Jar left the police force in search for better work due to completing his criminal justice degree, in an attempt to pay off his brothers schooling debt. He was shortly hired on by Nanotrasen later in 2457 as a security officer level 1, and briefly was granted head of security clearance aboard the late Aurora, and the Exodus class stations before transferring to the Aurora II under basic security restrictions once more. What do you like about this character?: He's Changed a lot throughout the years, but he's matured enough to stop and try to talk things out with people, he attempts to calmly resolve situations instead of being hotheaded and demanding of everyone, because he knows that won't get him anything in life at this stage. What do you dislike about this character?: I've been a little unhappy with his attitude lately, while it's great most of the time he can lose his cool upon being insulted, and can rarely hold a grudge against others who have wronged him. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's been a head of staff before (and would be for reasons I stated before) and from what I remember, he was generally well liked. I try to limit myself and my characters to create believable situations without being over the top power-fantasy archetypes. For ss13 specifically I really enjoy playing someone who doesn't know everything, as I don't see the fun in having an over the top character who can do multiple things that are just frankly unrealistic. Extra notes: D'Jars early lore is being worked on currently due to the taj lore overhaul that happened a while back. I've changed most of it to be believable (to me) however there are some parts that still do not fit.
  6. I just realised I haven't posted my updated character sheet, even though I meant to months ago. So, characters, woo. Jo'Zah Saani: Miner/Cargo Tech/Chef Mildly sassy cat who's toned down a bit, and tends to act very jaded and distant while on station. However, she's primarily a very caring person who holds being independent as one of her highest values in life. Currently working shorter shifts on Aurora, due to primarily working at Jawdats resturaunt as the head chef, and working out a new contract deal with Nanotrasen at the start of the new year. Also married to Rasine Ha'Kim (now Saani) in february. Rasul Mo'Taki: Slightly shy but polite and caring tajara. He tends to crack jokes to try and get to know others and appreciates when others show actual passion in their work. He's a biochemist who works as a phoron researcher/chemical researcher onboard the Aurora. He somewhat narrowly avoided the draft by applying for citizenship about a year after arriving on the Aurora and working out of Tau Ceti; it was approved roughly a month before the draft. was announced on station. He's also Ziva Mo'Taki's younger brother. Na'Khar Sa'Kuate: Upper-middle aged tajaran surgeon/CMO who's generally polite, and likes to flirt and make light hearted jokes. He thrives on non-serious conversations and tries to enjoy the most of every situation, while helping others. Na'Khar previously employed as part of a security/investigations unit in Velkas, a mid-outer rim mining colony. About a year later he was sent home due to a drug bust going downhill, and losing his arm functionality due to shrapnel. he lives on Adhomai in the peoples republic, however in a small village near the southern west mountains. The only thing that really sets him off is an incompetent medbay staff, or those who seem like they wouldn't be serious when needed to be. D'Jar Sa'Kuate: Na'Khars much younger brother, was orphaned alongside Na'Khar at the start of the new revolution due to the two major bombings. Lived on the streets of Nal'tor for a couple years before being raised by his much older brother. Made his way to Mendell under a workers permit before applying for citizenship a year later. Somewhat distant while on station, but generally laid back and calm until confronted. Personally values strength and martial prowess very high, and practices CQC and martial arts. Currently works primarily as a detective/security officer. And was promoted to second tier head of security this year. Jihani Rojawi: Yet another tajaran. High-middle aged former construction worker and current appliance electrician. Came from Nal'Tor from a poor family and worked as a construction worker during the outbreak of revolutions. Then immigrated to the Republic of Biesel in late 2457, and was hired on by nanotrasen. He's somewhat confused by human culture(s) and doesn't speak the best of basic. However he's typically open towards other tajara, and is biased against synthetics and humans. Typically relaxed when opening up, however he tends to have harsh biases against others and judges without realising. Blake Rosenthal: Not a cat. But really he's my human chief engineer, first character I ever made and still one of the best even if he's rarely on station. Canonically he's working partnered with Einstein Engines off station, but sponsored by nanotrasen, as a schematics engineer/designer. Blake's from mars, and grew up with his father who was an auto-mechanic, which resulted in him inheriting many of his qualities. He's extremely laid back, confident, and will do his best to grin and nod even if he's being insulted. One of the main things he values is to just make the best of what's given to him, and for that he's opposed to any sort of cloning or prosthetic replacements.
  7. I honestly don't see why I would even have to defend myself about the constant complaining about Rasul. Does anyone complain about Jo'Zah, D'Jar, Na'Khar, Jihani or any other one of my characters at all? I fail to even see how this is "unbecoming of a tajaran whitelist" when all I have done is roleplay characters with pretty reasonable/realistic standards, motives, and emotions. If there is one thing I know from admin experience for years, it's that one single incident does not define a player. In every single complaint, formal or not, the person making it pays attention only to the incident and not the situation surrounding it. I don't even have to explain it because everyone else has already done so ahead of me. End of round, oocly really damn tired, oocly also really irritated at something, and ICly figured/told we would be safe in a single area if they just stayed there. Also IC, wondering how to pass time and since he's a very caring person, trying to make sure his only friend he has contact with remains happy. There, I highly doubt I really need to state any other reasons why a single, isolated, insignificant little incident should really not have someone blow up about it. Do I really need to say more?
  8. A quick clarification. Hi, I noticed all the drama died down for the most part even though about 4-5 people are still all uppity about this. And I would just like to say something. Quit taking quotes out of context without asking the others about it. Rasuls entire "fuck off" thing which was ONE QUOTE which makes me "cancer" for tajarans was because he ignored his comms the entire round, he previously spent about 5 minutes counseling an emotionally disturbed Miraj before even saying "fuck off" if I am remembering this correctly. Now here's the thing, did any of you /ever/ ask for the players point of view before constantly making claims? I believe not and i'm not trying to come off as aggressive but it's a necessity at this point. I can't speak for others, but during that round I was tired as hell, distracted, working on something, and not paying any attention at all due to the stupid racism drama that people like to bicker about. A single round does NOT describe a character. Rasul is one of the most kind hearted, considerate and friendly people you can even meet on station but not many people know him because he's not played often by me. Therefor you going and making claims about something you oocly really don't know much about, is really unjustified. If the player KNOWS their character acts like this, CONSISTENTLY, then it should be dealt with. Judging a book by its cover is how you isolate people from the community, much like what's been happening recently and has continued to happen. Have a good day. Edited: Grammar/Spelling issues.

D'Jar Sa'Kuate - Somewhat blunt security taj that can switch between being polite and threatening you in an instant. Tries to hide his naturally aggressive behavior and appreciates professionalism. Jihani Rojawi - Engi-taj that is extremely confused by humans and has just recently integrated into the society, speaks broken tau ceti and questions everything. Ever. Rasul Mo'Taki - Energetic and excited toxins researcher/archaeologist who loves to study new things and meet people who are at his standards, not idiots. 10. Basic Information Byond Account: Firstact Character Name(s): Blake Rosenthal, Na'Khar Sa'Kuate, D'Jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani, Jihani Rojawi, Rasul Mo'Taki AI Name(s): None Preferred means of contact: In descending preferability, steam, email, forums, skype Age: 17 Timezone: GMT-0700 When are you on Aurora?: Weekdays, usually any time from 5-10pm. Weekends can be any variety of time. Experience 1 year of moderating, 3 years of primary adminship on ss13. Out of ss13, 2 years of primary adminship. (Although it was basically being a mod) How long have you played SS13?: 4 years How long have you played on Aurora: 7 months How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: From helping devlope new builds, testing things, and playing the game for four years, I know a huge deal of game mechanics, and general knowledge. When it comes to basic questions players will ask I can answer just about everything with certainty except for some parts of science/research, but those are often not mechanics questions. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play ss13 because I greatly enjoy roleplaying, and I enjoy the atmosphere that ss13 creates within the roleplay. Why do you play on Aurora?: I play on Aurora because I enjoy the players, characters, enviroment, and personally because its a HeavyRP server. While the playerbase has gotten negative at some times it has never been too damaging from an outside point of view, although I never had issues with it so that might just be me. What do moderators do?: Moderators vary from server to server, but on a whole most answer questions that players ahelp and either give them suggestions to a problem or if it is a mechanics issue/lack of knowledge, tell them how to do it or fix it. However, on some servers moderators are also basically trialmins where they answer small problems that would require an administrators attention but are not too important. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Well, being a moderator for Aurora wouldn't be too different from being a moderator on the last heavyrp server I was at. However, in comparison Aurora gets influxes of new players on a weekly basis, and it is important to keep these players interested in the server. By being a moderator for a large server like Aurora, I would be helping answer questions/problems with not just normal players, but also new players who migrate over, or those who may not know the differences between TG and bay code. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I wish to be a moderator to provide support for those who need it and to improve the overall quality of the game for people, as they would then posess the knowledge to help themselves or help others in the future. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I am very knowledgable about the game, I am friendly and can communicate well with players who do not know what they are doing or have not adapted to the roleplay style of a server. I don't think of staff as people who are above players, and I often try to look at situations from the view of the player who I am helping. I also have years of experience with this exact type of work and have grown very accustom to it, and have developed my own ways to deal with situations easily. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: At this point, I handle all of the above extremely well. The main reason, is that I personally try to keep a calm rational view of every situation in life, including one where someone is yelling straight in your face. Insults don't phase me, anger can get in the way but I have found how to get around it multiple times, and overall I don't get stressed easily. Anything Else You Want to Add: I previously worked at Apoc, much before, and for about a year after the transfer of ownership. The server has an extremely bad rep now due to the new owner, which was why I left, however I was a mod and admin back when it was still a heavy roleplay server.
  11. NAME: Rasul Mo'Taki DATE OF BIRTH: Aug 29, 2429 AGE: 27 SPECIES: Tajaran SEX: Male CLEARANCE LEVEL: Staff (Research) HEIGHT: 178 cm (5'10") WEIGHT: 71.21 kg (157 lb) FUR COLOR: Brown HAIR: Brown EYES: Green MEDICAL NOTES: No records of note. EMPLOYMENT SECURITY MEDICAL
  12. Name: Rasul Mo'Taki Relationship to IC Mo'Taki members: Zivas and Kai's brother, somewhat friendly with the cousins but never talked much. Already have Tajara Whitelist? yeppers. Job position you'll be applying for?: Plasma Researcher/Xenoarch Troublemaker with the spesslaw? (totally fine if you are) No. Short summary of your character: Rasul has a history with his family of being an extremely curious individual, often questioning things and demanding an answer be found some way. Rasul took particularly to stargazing, and worked as a shopkeepers apprentice in order to buy his own small telescope and saving up money for future education so that he could learn more. Rasul also took a particular liking to literature, and writing although it was something frowned upon generally in tajaran culture. In everyday family life, Rasul was somewhat of a loner, while actively being a part of the family, he preferred to immerse himself in studies of some kind unless he was needed. After saving money from working as a traders apprentice, he left home at the age of 20 to pursue a formal education, and with some approval borrowed money from his parents. He travelled to an advanced port city (i'll name it or find lore later) to major in physics, and a minor in astronomy. He graduated 5 years later with a bachelors level education in physics, and an undergraduates in astronomy. During the five years, Rasul immersed himself heavily in schoolwork, occassionally visiting family but for the most part focusing on schooling. Shortly after graduating, he was unsure of where to find work with knowledge such as his. Seeking some advice, he returned to Kal'Tiiv, and took up work as a lab assistant in an astronomy lab in a neighboring area, paying off some of the debt while providing money for himself and for classes in tau ceti basic. Shortly after Ziva had finished her engineeringRasul planned on leaving for work upon hearing that the job sector in Tau Ceti was high. Two years later, he left for Tau Ceti, shortly after Ziva upon hearing of Nanotrasen through his sister. He then applied to work for them, seeking to test his knowledge at a professional workplace. After basic evaluation and approval, he was sent to training courses in safe practices, and agreed to take xenoarchaeology courses as long as he worked partially at xenoarchaeology. After roughly eight months, he was transferred to the NSS Aurora to work mainly as a plasma researcher, early in 2457 at the age of 27. Notes: This is in no way, complete. Theres a lot of things i'll edit and re-do, or add. I'd also like to expand on his early life, and experiences with family so i can accurately provide rp based off of relationships with others, but in general this is just a basic guideline to his "story" of sorts. Thats all Edit: Fixed him being Karimas brother, now Zivas (I talked to sierra about it)

  19. yes. Also Jo'Zah would call Na'Khar a smartass, and get along with D'Jar by calling others stupid. The other two are brothers so they already get along, kind of.
  20. I took two years of Taekwondo up to green belt, I've also taken basic military CQC technique training. I plan on taking jun keet do (JKD) when i have the money because damn martial arts is expensive. I also know kickboxing from my brother because ynot.
  21. Jo'Zahs drinking buddies would be Karima and Nasir, although on station she drinks with aaron on a regular basis. She prefers to drink tea after work, but will totally jump at the chance to go out drinking. also she totally plans on recruiting Rasine into a drinking buddy
  22. I need access to da forums
  23. something i have found that huuuugely helps with this problem, is bringing up task manager (ctrl alt delete) and setting dreamseeker.exe 's priority to high or above normal. This means that the strings that go through your processor are organized-ish, and ss13's processes will always run through first, resulting in a smooth game. Albeit, it doesn't always mean you go from 4fps to nolagwhatesoever, it just means you go from 4 to say, 20. So the main pauses will be from server-wide lag. If that doesnt work i can always suggest other things
  24. BYOND key: Firstact Character names: Blake Rosenthal, Na'Khar Sa'Kuate, D'jar Sa'Kuate, Jo'Zah Saani How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Just coming up on 6 months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to be on the whitelist because two of my characters are technically "qualified" for head of staff position (taken training courses, been with NT for years) however they are constantly stuck with lower tier jobs even when the station needs a head of staff, also to provide the station with some sort of management that can often make others in-game experiences much better. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora because it was recommended by Ryfer, and then I stayed because i really enjoyed the roleplay and community. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, multiple times. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is more than just putting yourself in the position of the character, or pretending to be them. It's about creating an eviroment and community base that is fun for the players involved, and the characters involved. Roleplay is basically creating an enviroment in which each person has their own motives, strengths, weaknesses, and overall furthers the enjoyability of the game in their own way through the character. I believe roleplay should mainly be focused on having fun, because honestly that's the main purpose anyone gets into roleplaying is to have fun with other roleplayers. There are obviously some restrictions to this, but it's the players choice on how they will have fun, and act out their character for the benefit of themselves and possibly others. (Unless it gets them banned ) What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Out of character a head of staff can do many things to benefit other players. First off, they hugely help new players when teaching them how to roleplay and/or do their job correctly. Secondly, heads of staff serve somewhat to represent a goal/example of roleplay, as often heads of staff are those who have shown to be adequate at roleplaying and can help others or remind them of certain aspects. When a head of staff shows to be an exceptional roleplayer, they often lead players who put less effort in, to strive to be as good/better, and succeed in their own way. Overall though, the players themselves are almost always the type of players that others desire to play like, and when combined with good attitudes and maturity, they often improve the communities attitude towards subjects in many ways. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe the responsibilities that whitelisted players have to others, is to not only help sort problems out, but to help make decisions, and be supportive of them. Often players get discouraged from roleplaying due to a toxic player, or some other experience. However, a whitelisted player can really help in that situation, and often they do as it is a community-wide responsibility, but whitelisted players especially help as they are sort of a figurehead, and depending on the persons perspective, a figure of maturity/helpfullness can represent the will of a community. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Na'khar Sa'Kuate Character age: 37 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Na'khar was born in Nalyar, Ahdomai shortly after. He and his brother were orphaned seven years after their birth, and he grew up with his younger brother D'Jar, in an orphanage until he was 14, where he was able to attend humanitarian funded basic schooling, and partially provide food for himself as a merchants apprentice. After his schooling was over at the age of 19, he signed up for the military, but a month before completing basic training he dropped out. Half a year later, Na'Khar was coaxed into joining an outer-colony security force by D'Jar, due to the fact that they were paying well for M'Sai and Zhan-Khazan security forces, to which he hoped for easy pay without much work. Na'Khar was employed to a partially independent mining colony called Velkas. Na'Khar was employed there for three years, although more than halfway through the year 2441 he was injured when inspecting a suspected drug lab, the suspect ran and due to a small scale explosion that was caused by the chemicals being overcooked, Na'Khar had a large piece of sharpnel imbedded deeply between his left shoulders disc. The result was amputation due to irreparable nerve tissue damage, and so he chose to get a prosthetic arm in place of it on the companies insurance and medical payment. He was allowed to leave the contract early and took a ship back to Ahdomai, where he desired to become an accomplished surgeon. Shortly through 2442, he was accepted into the medical institute of Bayan, Ahdomai, through the use of his accumulated money and insurance payment that was saved, and began majoring in basic medicine and surgical studies. Six years later in Na'Khar graduated with an accelerated masters in surgical studies, a bachelors in doctoral practices, and an undergraduates in virological studies. Na'Khar went on to accept a contract with Nanotrasen in 2448, was employed as a surgeon aboard the NSS Canies Venatici for three years, where he met his newfound wife Vetiv Tessik.Three years later he was on his way to transfering over to the NSS Aurora as a surgeon, to work with advanced surgical gear and test the capabilities, and well as perform his surgical duties. In late 2456, Na'khar applied for and recieved a small grant from the Ahdomai government to set up a clinic for patients injured in the attacks on cities and general accidents such as the long forgotten landmines that plague certain areas. During the last year, Na'Khar has taken the Nanotrasen upper-level management test, and is currently doing individual virological studies with professors at the medical institute of Bayan. What do you like about this character?: Na'Khar is an odd character, he's cynical to a terrible extent, yet nice, and often indecisive with decisions he makes. He also has a skillset in basically only medicine, aside from very limited combat training he know's almost nothing outside medicine besides some computer skills. To me I view him as a very realistic type of person, and he often acts like it. He's also a very happy character, who feels accomplished in life and certainly acts like it unlike some others. What do you dislike about this character?: A main thing I dislike about Na'Khar is that he's a bit rude compared to others standards, although it does not often cause problems. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes Why?: Na'Khar is responsible, mature, and holds the skills necessary to perform the job of a Chief Medical Officer. He is not a "super doctor" who can do everything, but his skillset allows him to coordinate medical and respond to situations appropriately. Na'Khar holds the knowledge of medicine to at least make an informed decision on the choices that would be presented to a medical team or even alone to a CMO. The only downside to him is he is not very experienced in management roles so he would have to adapt to situations, as taking the pre-requesite courses provided by Nanotrasen would only provide so much help. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following question. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I really dislike rating my own roleplaying, so I will leave it up to just saying my strengths and weaknesses that I at least can see. Although, it's better to have someone else vouch as nobody is 100% honest. First of all my biggest strength: staying in character. This is mainly due to being an admin for years on different roleplaying servers, not just on ss13 and either 1). Having to deal with grief/admin issues involving characters. and 2). Listening to admins reveal in round information like "this guy's acting suspicious, please watch him." Some other strengths I have would be a balance between heavy roleplaying, and the action elements of ss13 as I honestly disdain "chair rp", others would be roleplaying knowledge correctly (basically not powergaming), making character interactions interesting for both parties, and helping others improve in their roleplaying standards. Some weaknesses I hold are: sometimes a character that's not set in stone might react oddly to situations, preferring quick-time roleplay as opposed to others slower rp and sometimes not giving them a chance, and generally still thinking about everything in an administrative way (which is a bad thing to me) Extra notes: Sorry if this is inconsistant in some places or badly written, i'll revise it later when needed Feel free to leave a question about any of the app or point flaws out. (can always pm me too)
  25. There is a slight static as the camera feed cackles on, then focuses in on the silver furred tajaran sitting on a chair in front of it. He is wearing blue surgical scrubs but with a long cloak draped over the majority of the uniform, concealing his frame. Glasses rest forward on his muzzle as he turns to wave slightly at a female Unathi leaving the frame with a grin. The room is of dim lighting, and much of the background is too dark to see aside from a lamp a few feet away and a near filled cigarette tray on the black top desk. The tajaran adjusts the camera and a few clicks are audible before the brightness adjusts to lighten his facial features, two long verticle scars run down the side of his face and he turns back to the camera before awkwardly smiling. Clearing his throat quietly he says "Hello.. he is Doctorrr Sa'Kuate, and well.. he was told by his boss to make one of these accounts." He curses quietly and mumbles something in Siik Mas as the camera tilts, before being clipped into place. "Ehem, so anyway.. feel frrree to ask him anything, yes?" He pushes up his glasses slightly and smiles slightly.
