  1. BYOND Key: GrazalThruka Character Names: Daniel Berkland, Ka'Akaix'Miath Zo'ra, Trent Corbin Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Slightly lighter than Yu'kal Soil Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep! Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've played Unathi on other servers, and I really like playing warrior races and more importantly, very inhuman aliens. Unathi are also cool lizards. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Physically, Unathi are cold-blooded bipedal lizards, slightly larger than the average human. They only get nutrient from meat, and drink butanol instead of ethanol. They vary in appearance from lizard-like to draconic to serpentine, and many have horns, frills, or crests. They have a longue forked tongue used to sample the air. Given their physiology, they tend towards slow and purposeful movement. Unathi society is feudally divided, with strict gender roles, traditions, and honour codes, especially within their main government: the Izweski Nation. Women are held to a less strict standard than the men, a major point being that women are permitted to lie. Their society has begun recovering from a planet-wide nuclear war, with the survivors divided between those who made the non-traditional choice to leave Moghes for a colony or human space, those still living in the remaining Izweski cities, or the various factions of wastelanders. The main theme with Unathi I see is tradition vs. progress. How do they hold onto their rigid culture while still moving forward? Or do they bother at all? What influences will the other cultures of the galaxy provide (if they haven't already RE: the contact war conspiracies)? Character Name: Dr. Uzors Kzeskis (referred to below by his first name just to differentiate between him and the clan) Please provide a short backstory for this character: Born a year before the war broke out, Uzors was orphaned in the chaos: his father died fighting for the Izweski, and his mother died of radiation poisoning shortly after the atomic exchange. His childhood was spent moving between various refugee camps and mobile hospitals as his mother worked with other healers to provide humanitarian (Unathitarian?) aid to civilian populations. When his mother died, he was taken in by Clan Kzeskis, a member of which had worked with his mother. A desert-border-clan-turned-Oasis, the Kzeskis provided medical aid to Reclaimers and others as the wasteland spread, eventually settling down on the edge themselves. Uzors lived out the remaining few years of his childhood in the wasteland. He spent most of his time with his adoptive mother, and she was reluctantly supportive when he insisted on following in her footsteps. He quickly learned the Kzeskis' various herbal remedies, as well as the modern medicine that trickled in. His vivid memories of the war's injured as well as the warrior culture still prevalent among the (relatively) pacifistic plan have left a strange imprint on him; Uzors is vehemently opposed to emotionally driven violence, but understands the occasional necessity of its application. Taking advantage of a Nanotrasen scholarship, he left Moghes when he turned 20 to study medicine, and found many like-minded peers who were willing to overlook the fact that he was a man studying medicine. He trained to become a trauma care specialist, with enough general practitioner skills to make it by. In the present day, at the age of 26, he was assigned to the Horizon. Kzeskis follows Th'akh in a very literal ancestral sense, praying to specific ancestors for guidance (most often his mother). What do you like about this character? I really like the vibe of "scary-looking doctor who's a really chill dude." I also always enjoy playing very counter-cultural characters who nonetheless do their best to honour their culture however they can. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6-8/10, depending on the day
  2. No worries! The big thing I've picked up on is the communal-ness. It's so baked into their upbringing and even biology that it's hardly even a thought to them. Loyalty to their Ta and their hive is not even considered a virtue because it's just a fact. This extends to their crew, since they're here doing their job on the orders of their Queen/Ta/whoever. Their occupation is also biological for them. For example, even though an unbound like Mia might display a passing interest in other occupations, she's an engineer, through-and-through, and anything else would be a hobby to be pursued when she's not working on her main job. (A bound would take this to the extreme, not bothering with anything that's not directly related to their job or Not Dying) VR is essentially as real to them as reality, since they can spend their afterlife there and most unbound spent their formative years immersed in it. And I feel like I might be missing something but I'm not too sure.
  3. BYOND Key: GrazalThruka Character Names: Daniel Berkland, Kade Lureth Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 71 9 0 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep! Why do you wish to play this specific race: I really enjoy playing character with super alien mindsets and strange physiologies. Also, Big Bugs Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurcae in general are very group-minded, putting the good of the hive/cell/crew before their own. This is grown into them biologically, as well as taught to them and augmented in. With the exception of Warriors, Vaurcae avoid violence not in immediate self defense (even then, running away is the first priority). Bulwarks will use their bulk to ensure everyone else gets away before doing so themselves K'ois paste and any resulting products are the only things they can eat Vaurcae breathe a phoron-oxygen mix. Vaurca in human jobs have an augment that filters out gases toxic to them and injects phoron into their lungs Bound Vaurcae are more like smart tools than actual people. They do their job (and little else) without question, only changing this if ordered to by an Unbound from their hive or a head of staff. Even still, they have very little versatility, knowing only the skills needed to do their jobs and take care of themselves. Unbound Vaurcae are still unwaveringly loyal to the hive, but possess a sense of self and non-job-related interests on a human level. They generally prefer being in VR, and delegate more menial tasks to any nearby Bound (assuming they're in the same department). They are still grown and trained for a distinct purpose, but are smarter and less specialized than a Bound. Given that they communicate with pheremones and the hivenet, Vaurcae have very sensitive senses of smell. Character Name: Ka'Akiax'Miath Zo'ra Mia, as they are generally called by non-Vaurcae, is a Queenless Worker from Flagsdale. Their Ta was reluctant to engage in the criminal activity many other Queenless were forced into, resulting in an almost destitute upbringing. On the fringes of VR and the few remaining factories in the district, Mia learned the basics of engineering, especially gas processing, and brought what little credits they could earn home to their cell. It was mostly under-the-table work, but it provided valuable experience. They are a big fan of the Flagsdale Hornets and dreamed of playing for them before the reality of being 5'1" set in. Around the time they turned five, an opportunity arose with Zavodskoi for an engineering apprenticeship aboard the Horizon. The cell sent Mia, a choice Miea doesn't feel particularly deserving of but are determined to make the best of. Mia despises the Ak'riix, and has made quite a few enemies among their numbers by foiling the money-making schemes of their workers. Part of the reason they were sent to the Horizon was to get them out of harm's way. They are very touchy and jealous about VR, having never been able to spend much time in it. Most of the credits they make that don't get sent back to their cell are spent saving up for opportunities to spend in VR, even if they can only access the fringes. They hope to one day have enough saved to move their entire cell out of Flagsdale and somewhere nicer. What do you like about this character? I like the concept of VR, but wanted to play a character a little less defined by it than a typical Unbound, as they tend to be as far as I can tell. Mia sticks more to the collectiveness of the Vaurca, and still has enough VR experience to talk about it. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like 6-8/10? Really depends on the day
