  1. Do you bartend for Aurora? Are you tired of the same-ol' same-ol' of sitting around and serving drinks to drunks? WELL THEN THIS IS THE SPOT FOR YOU! The bold text makes this seem far more important than it actually is. Here is what I do to keep myself busy during slow hours (and fast ones). It doesn't take much to add a bit of flare in your drink mixing and role-playing possibilities. All it takes is a bit of emoting (gasp) and a dab of structure. ALWAYS REMEMBER THE NUMBER RUN RULE: For the structured bartender: This is the bartender who loves paperwork as much as an HoP or overzealous Quartermaster. You put up papers on and around the bar that state how your bar works and how you expect people to behave. You may even want to include a newscaster element to the spread of the structured bar. The papers and newscaster serve two fantastic purposes: 1) You have a disclaimer people must abide by in your bar. 2) Advertise the bar! Get those alcoholics in so you can whip them into shape. Or out of shape. What to avoid: Don't get too bent out of shape. Try not to ruin RP for someone else just because they don't have signatures from all the heads of staff saying that they may glance in the general direction of the bar. It is only fun when two or more are having fun. Example of a disclaimer I have used in the past: For the classiest bartenders: Dress for success. You only feel as good as good you look for this type of bartender. You may want to mix your drinks without a machine, or even right in front of the customers. Classy bartenders might want to have a 'specials' or 'house favorites' list that is the particular bartender's specialty. Depending on how comfortable you feel about emoting you might want to draw attention to your outfit or make your drinks pretty! Try emoting yourself slicing a lemon twist to drop into the drink. Classy bartenders may even want to experiment! You can emote that you add a tad of x substance to x existing drink to make it your own special cocktail (you probably won't do any real mixing of things that are not in the code due to the fact you'll get the glass of ...what? which is not so appealing for thirsty customers). Remember to spice it up! What to avoid: There isn't much I can think of that would ruin RP for others... Just don't keep the customers waiting while you emote! For the icy bartender: I've only tried this once a loooooong time ago on a server far far away. This bartender is stone-faced. Professional. Calm. Quick. And Good. The drinks she makes are precise and taste fantastic. She takes care in making their drink but do it in half the time. They may have their shotgun close by whether it's concealed or in plain sight. This can take on many forms, so play it how you like. An icy bartender may even try doing some tricks (shaker tossing, pouring at the same time, rainbow shots for everyone, etc.) What to avoid: This may turn into a snow-flake like personality. When you play a character like this just be careful about the way you shape their exact history and RP. For the Joe Shmoe drink slinger: This bartender is your standard, off the block, family man, rusty saloon, tough guy, tattooed, drink-wiping, mustache wearing, typical mug filler. This is the kind of bartender who doesn't take squat from nobody (and may have already had a few drinks himself). He might be chatty with customers or even slightly unhygienic. This bartender is expected to burst right out of a western saloon and down a glass of ...what? before thinking. He could be a jolly bartender or even a solemn one. Just remember to mix it up with this sort of personality! What not to do: Don't shoot someone for no good reason. You might threaten or wave a menacing fist about.. But don't ruin other spessman RP just because someone smashed your favorite #1 Bartender mug. Tips for beginners: -Put the shotgun in the booze locker. Put the booze locker next to the keg. PRESTO! Concealed shotgun. -Don't want to wear the clunky armor? Keep it in your backpack and pull it out when you're looking down the barrel of a traitor's revolver. -Keep Baystation's Guide to Drinks open in the background for professional drink making. -Security has the last say. This is to avoid getting shot and cuffed. -Ask for pay for drinks.. Or don't! It's your choice! If you have any useful bar-tending tips feel free to comment them. Have fun and remember the number one rule!

  3. Pshhhhh... Elietists. I'M IN! But in all honesty this is a great idea. And #InvisibleAurora for sure.
  4. Joel Reeves A young (somewhere above twenty one and below thirty) man who's sole position on station is to serve drinks. Joel is rather quite and doesn't talk much. He is (or tries) to act calm and controlled in stressful situations. He works on Aurora solely for the pay and experience. Joel Reeves stares at the man in front of him, raising his brows. Joel Reeves smiles towards the person sitting across from him. Quenneck Qullak-Tup A cold, calm, objective Skrell. In all reality Quenneck is quite expressive when interacting with people he is close to or other Skrell and Diona. He considers himself an artist of the mind due to his research with the brain and its functions. He is a huge nerd. "Well. That was a poor choice." "This will hurt. Quite a lot."
  5. Great RPer and a fantastic addition to the community. I've seen Inquisitor and other characters of Dreamix's take control of a tough situation and make it right. They can defiantly handle themselves in the field of leadership. I give my full support for this player receiving a whitelist. And a cookie. In whichever order you like. Sorry I didn't type up more but I am currently writing this on my phone. Overall gut RP --LF
  6. Post any sorts of funny quotes or emotes below! Copy paste or leave a screen shot. No idea if people will do this. But hey, why not? Enjoy! Example from earlier: Quenneck Qullak-Tup: I think I found the source of the explosion. *BOOM* Quenneck Qullak-Tup: Yup. Found it.
  7. Thank you Schuba, Loow, and Dreamix for replying! I'd quote everyone and make direct answers to the quote, you see... But I'm horribly lazy. The Name: Quark will be changed. The Slurring: I don't intend to make my Shkrell shlur, do to the fact that you mentioned. Unless, however, the lore dudes tell me I need to. Again, thank you so much for the feedback! I can't wait to see you guys as Joel or Quenneck. --LF
  8. BYOND Key: Engineer LaForge Character Name: Joel Reeves Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Light blue. I haven't quite figured out the RGB yet but it will be pretty stereotypical. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: . I've always thought that Skrell have a very interesting personality and history. I love playing science and medical based characters and Skrell have a very strong science background and persuasion. I appreciate the logical personality of the Skrell. When I play characters that are tougher or bold I enter fights without question. I want to work on playing more calm and controlled characters. Joel, for exampled, is one of my more controlled character. I want to play a Skrell to better my RP with more character types. Also, I want to have fun and try new things. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Many different things: -Hardened gums vs. teeth -Skrell can't eat meat due to their inability to digest it -Skrell emit a slime like substance that is poisonous to digest (causes nausea and other minor symptoms). This is in contrast to a human receiving an adrenaline boost when frightened -Skrell are very logical, as where most humans are more impulsive -Skrell can breathe underwater -Water themed racism/specism! -Webbed fingers and toes -Reproduction chicken style with external fertilization -Inability to pronounce some sounds in Common -Expression more vocal than physical -Absorbing food through their skin. Ew. Much more! Character Name: Quenneck Qullarkt-Tup (name pending) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Quenneck was hatched to an upper middle-class pair of Jarsian merchants. His father and mother both traded around the Universe. One of the many advantages to this was learning the language of Tradeban. Growing up with many other races and cultures intrigued Quenneck from an early age. He loved to explore the minds of different races through socialization. Many hours were spent researching the neurological and emotional functions of one's brain. Quenneck began to think of himself as an artist; he created testing brain games and questions that would engage the answerer. Quenneck soon advanced in his art form during his youth and focused more on question. The questions he created would tell you something about your unconscious thoughts and wants based upon your answer. Of course, he was young and mostly did so to entertain him. When Quenneck was 28 he received his Medical Doctorate, specializing in brain surgeries and medicine. At age 32 Quenneck received his Phy.D. In the future, Quenneck hopes to achieve an A.D. for his studies into the intellect. Quenneck has achieved much more sense his years making up silly questions. After becoming a brain surgeon and receiving his Phy.D., he has begun his own experimentation. Even though Quenneck lacks adequate funding for his studies, he now practices reworking synthetic brains (to make the subject use a greater percentage of their brain, or fix birth disabilities without altering genetics, or etc.). He always thinks he's on the cusp of something amazing regardless of whether or not he actually is. Quenneck came to the NSS Aurora for a sense of adventure. He is and always has been considered a nerd. He hopes to see and meet new people and gain more experience than his required residency. He believes the experience the station provides him might win him a university backer. What do you like about this character? My favorite thing about this character is his curiosity. He has a quiet sense of adventure and I personally cannot wait to play that out. Quenneck is curious about the people and species he works with, in specific why they think and act the way they do. Quenneck is not soon to fight, and will do his best not to in any situation. He would only enter into battles of wit and reaction (and only when he is sure he can win!). How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’ve role-played on various different SS13 servers for two to three years. In addition, I’ve GM and play GURPS fir the past four to three years. I’d say that I’m at least half decent. Notes: Do Skrell care at all for intimate relationships? I understand that they see reproduction as a utilitarian purpose more than anything.
  9. Jack is an interesting character. He's got a lot of layers that are genuinely interesting to unwrap and get to know. I have been on the receiving end of a bullet from the end of Jack's revolver before. He didn't just pull out his trusty side gun and blow my brains out, but rather had a well RPed discussion with my Nuke Op. At the end of said discussion I was dead. However, I really enjoyed the conversation the two had before hand. Further on: I think that SLC would be great at RPing a tough but loving HoS. Although.. what HoS isn't tough loving? SLC makes sure that they RP out meaningful situations using emotes and sentences (wit gut grammah). As a point of criticism: Try not to make your character too messed up. Everyone wants their character to be different, but focus more on the love and less on the tough. I need to work on this aspect myself. Overall gut RP +1 --LF
