  1. As a noble, he was literate from his earliest years, and the education his parents bestowed upon him made him read a lot, which during his job as a librarian he continued reading. He attempted to save some books, which he smuggled out to the various royalist-supporting circles, but also helped to maintain his cover, by turning up to rebel gatherings, and burning the less important books. Uninteresting novels, manuals, ledgers, a religious book or two, things that the illiterate rebels would cheer for, and leave him alone as one of the good ones, saying he is keeping the books about the decadence of the nobles safely hidden away, to possibly teach the younger generations about the cruelty of the deposed. Mahaii is, unsurprisingly, vehemently against the PRA and all it stands for. A terrorist empire ruled by a honorless noble family who betrayed the old order for a chance of power, and forced a bloodlust against the past upon the peasants. He views the Hadiis and their "Republic" as the evil that, if not directly, contributed to getting his family killed, and for turning his life upside down. He has no reason to show any respect to Hadii and their followers, though, he learned to control his opinions well during his time in Idris, and now the SCC. For the DPRA I think he would hold a more nuanced opinion. It is also a state that is, at least in part, somewhat divorced from the ideas of the PRA’s Hadiism, while still clearly a state based on some of its ideas. Still, he also views it as yet another rogue, illegitimate state, that was founded and continued on stolen noble land, and a state that endeavours to break the traditional ethnic caste system. He holds some very faint, begrudging respect for the state, that helped to relieve the Kingdom of fighting the PRA, by fighting the PRA themselves, while keeping in mind that they also put down the royalist uprising on Amohda. Ultimately, he hopes that they remain weak with the ALA and civilian government infighting continuing, or that the civilian government takes over completely, and enters into a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" alliance with the Kingdom. Mahaii would subscribe most to the Conservative royalist school of thought, which was motivated by his time defending the new Kingdom. There he saw how both nobles, and commoners, were fighting for a common cause against the terrorist PRA regime that ruled Harr’masir. However, his father taught him much about culture and politics before revolution times, so he upholds what he was taught, and is partial to the Revivalist school of thought, though he’s not that of a fanatic about it. Namely, he cares about maintaining the rule of the Njarir’Akhran, and maintaining the caste system, but disagreeing with the stance on the alien influences. He is wary of giving the corporations too much influence, but removing them outright is not the way forward. He would be against the Absolutist and Populist schools, believing that the current state of affairs should continue, relatively uninterrupted. He does however believe that strengthening the military is always a good idea.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: Well, three reasons, This one is weird, but the S'rand'marr sector lobby music. That was what planted the first seeds of interest. I know it was not made purpose-made for Aurora, but it complimented my, by then, very basic mental image of a species with an incredible amount of potential doomed to its current situation by fratricidal wars, and corporate exploitation, further motivated by selfish rulers, putting up a facade of caring for their people. The lore, while admittedly slightly too referential of 20th century European totalitarian governments, mainly (but not entirely) the Warsaw Pact, it has taken my interest anyway. The politics, the religions, and the lore and interactions between the three states, have gotten me slightly hooked. Last but not least, the history of the pre-contact nobles. I just find a group of people who lived through such a massive social upheaval extremely interesting, and how the few that survived have to battle with the fact that their time is running out, no matter what they do. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: I can say that a very in-your-face trait of Tajara is them speaking in third person. But saying only that is not enough. The other important things are the ethnicities, and how the three states view them, how they view taboos of marrying between ethnicities, and how the ethnicities should know their place, because they were born to fulfill a role. The body language, The very apparent tensions between the PRA, DPRA, and the NKA. And my favorite, the entrance of a young, war-torn race to the politics of the Spur, and their subsequent exploitation by all (well, most) of the corporations. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Mahaii'zurmagal Dirmaar'Jarihaad Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Woe, a 1000+ word backstory upon ye Mahaii'zurmagal Dirmaar'Jarihaad was born in 2410, in the east of the Azumah Lake, in the Duchy of Dolor. The Dirmaar'Jarihaad were a small Njarir'Akhran noble family, locally respected as a pillar of culture and order. To peasants, they were tyrants, infamous for hosting particularly cruel groups of M'sai enforcers. Mahaii was the youngest child, and the first son of Dirmaar family. From his earliest years, Mahaii was rigorously taught local history, law, music, culture, art, and many others. His mother Sarruhnifa taught him S'rendarr and Messa worship; his father Rahzimahuzarrmal, how to manage a realm. It all changed when Sarruhnifa died abruptly in 2419. While officially she died of an illness, rumors of an assassination spread. Rahzimahuzarrmal did not take it well, withering into a paranoid drunk, that often took his anger out at his own children, and as the youngest and least able to defend himself, Mahaii was often the target. After that, the young Njarir became withdrawn, quiet, cautious, he took solace in the faith his mother taught him. He started avoid confrontations with his father, he started avoiding touch. But he bore it all in silence, out of familial loyalty, or out of pride to his heritage. But he never stopped holding respect for his father. Nothing could prepare Adhomai for what started in 2421. Still, until 2425, the realm held, and Mahaii's education continued mostly uninterrupted. In those years, the young Mahaii often accompanied his father to to oversee the pacification campaigns perpetrated by his family's M'sai enforcers. These, he was told, were necessary for keeping the order, and the authority of the family. Rahzimahuzarrmal, in his periods of lucidity, was not a merciful leader, nor a hesitant one. This calm, ordered brutality, left an impression on the young noble. When he dared to ask questions, he made sure to remember the answers. But when the city of Dolor fell the Dirmaar briefly fled north, to the Kingdom, while the adult men remained behind. By 2428, things were looking up, and Mahaii was sent to aid the siege of his liege's capital, which fell a year later. The victory was short lived, the following blitz by the rebel fleet shattered the momentum, and all chances of victory. But by 2432 all remaining hope was lost. The Hadiists, having entered the Kingdom of Kaltir, have found the refuge of the Dirmaar. That day was a blur, but Mahaii managed to escape. After weeks of wandering, starved and without direction, he began seeking out any remaining cells of royalist support. He took on a new identity, that of noble disinherited for his support of the Hadii cause, and made his way to Kaltir, to find anyone to help. There, he found quiet work as a librarian, replacing the one who had mysteriously disappeared not long before. Officially, they drowned. A shame. There he labored, in quiet, for fifteen years, known as a calm, withdrawn but generally kind, and most importantly a good replacement for the last librarian. His noble education served him well; he might have even enjoyed his work in a different life, but in this one, he resented it. By night, he met with royalist groups plotting the return of king Vahzirthaamro. It couldn't last. In 2450, he and his circle was arrested by the People's Strategic Intelligence Service. Though brief, the imprisonment left marks he would never forget. Broken out in 2451, he immediately joined the newly-formed Imperial Adhomian Army as an Alam'ardii officer. There, he fought a bitter, defensive war. He taught his men to have no mercy, just as his father taught him. But he didn't see the war's end with his own eyes. Wounded in 2459, he stayed in a hospital in Kaltir until the Armistice. His only solace during the stay there was news that his sister survived. After the armistice, now as a decorated veteran, he withdrew, and spent a quiet year in the rural estate gifted to him by the King. He made some Njarir friends, he went on spending sprees, he spent time with his sister, her husband, and their children. Fitting reward, but he found himself growing restless. Peace did not suit him. He spent months idly, attempting to find a hobby, reading texts in Tau Ceti Basic, and various pieces of revived Ya'ssa literature, useful, but his fascination faded quickly. At 51, he was not yet ready to fade into the life of a peacetime noble, he wanted to fly. Rather than to invest his own, not especially impressive wealth, he rode around the streets of Kaltir, watching new buildings being raised. Reconstruction makes sense, and was expected after a war, though, some were not staffed by locals, but by humans. Idris Incorporated the signs said in Tau Ceti Basic, maybe the hobby was not a waste of time after all. He went inside, weathered, in his new noble clothes. At the desk, he requested a loan, that is all he knew about the human corporation. A Hharar sat in the booth. “What is the loan for?” they asked. “He wishes to fund a pilot's license” he responded. The Hharar hesitated, turned to a terminal and pressed a button, shortly after, a door at the far end of a room has opened. A human, in an exquisite dark suit and a teal tie. He had a smile of someone who knew more than they should. They extended a handshake, Mahaii flinched and folded his ears back, and did not take it. Mahaii asked if they can help him. The man said they can do a lot more than that, under one condition... He returned to his estate, only to arrange things. He nominated his sister as a steward of the estate in his absence. To those who asked, he just said he is going to see how things are outside Adhomai, now that he was no longer needed. The man did not lie, it was a lot more. Having started his corporate “vacation”, the following months, then years, passed in a steady blur. He was trained as a pilot, in exchange for a contract, and reduced salary. At first, he was assigned to the service division, then, he was moved to the security one. His job was simple: transport and escort. Mahaii excelled, and requested new certifications constantly, petitioned for licenses for larger ships. Though, while not exceptional, he was reliable and respected by his wealthier colleagues, and appreciated quietly by his superiors. He enjoyed his work, until one day, in a meeting regarding his licenses, his supervisor paused, and the tone shifted. “Tell me” he started, “have you heard of… the Horizon? Large vessel. A cruiser. I've been considering of making a recommendation to the Conglomerate. Not as a Captain due to… protocol, I trust you understand, but it would a waste to assign you as standard bridge crew. What about the an Executive Officer, hm? Not official yet, but I think it will be soon.” And so, Mahaii got his cruiser license, and a recommendation to the Chainlink. The SCCV Horizon? He'll take it. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. The wider events, like the Phoron Scarcity and the Solarian Collapse did not affect Mahaii at all, on the surface at least. Though, getting hired by Idris may have been motivated by the corporation plugging holes of the now less available Solarian populations. But, the influence of the both the revolutions has clearly taken a toll on Mahaii, considering he took part in both of them. Losing most of his family in the first one, and having to bite his tongue and work as a librarian for almost 20 years before the second one started, getting arrested, possibly tortured, broken out by the new NKA, and getting wounded, resulting in Mahaii missing most of the latter part of the war. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? I think Mahaii is very fond of Idris Incorporated, as a noble he of course enjoys the finer things in life, and they gave an old Njarir'Akhran a chance to see the wider Spur, alongside his piloting license. So, when it comes to Idris? Very positive. But, as an Executive Officer, they work for the SCC, which they do not hold view as positively as Idris. But the dislike is less motivated by overall dislike of corporations, and more by the SCC being friendly with the PRA, which they invest plenty of credits into. So, when it comes to the SCC? Neutral, but definitely leaning positive, while holding a few personal grudges that are hard to act upon. Extra notes: I hope you enjoyed reading my application as much as enjoyed writing it.
  3. BYOND key: RandomHomelessGuy Discord Username: elorgrhg Character names: I have a tendency to focus on one character instead of playing several, and do not use the relay so I fear these are not recognizable, however Salvo Renn - Dreg, Security Officer, PMCG Zakari Keita - Suit, Surgeon, Zeng-Hu (deleted) Tadeusz Kania - Visegradi, Bridge Crew, SCC Thirizi Kazhkz - Dominian Unathi, Paramedic, NT (current main) How long have you been playing on Aurora? Hopefully this does not doom the application, but I started in January/February this year, so about 5-6 months now. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? None. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? I see the Head of Staff roles on Aurora as a bit of a beacon for other players to follow and listen to. A person who has a command whitelist, can reasonably – through OOC means, be seen as someone who knows a thing or two, and can be trusted with more than a thing or two. To inform, to communicate, to help guide new, and experienced players if they need help with anything, to organize the department, to solve greater issues, and to give them something to do in the off-chance there is nothing to do, even if it is not strictly mechanically necessary. Ideally? A Head of Staff should enhance the round, and through their IC authority find stuff to do. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? I may have overstepped into this part with my previous answer, but, a Head of Staff is first and foremost a managerial position, regardless of whether it is an HoS, a CE, or most definitely the Captain. To put it simply, a Head of Staff should do little beside ordering their underlings around and informing the other heads of staff about what is happening, and to involve themselves only in either severe circumstances, lack of staffing, or just being asked to replace someone (in their department) for a bit due to anything happening. A CMO doing surgery when there are two surgeons is not what they should be doing, unless both surgeons are dead or otherwise busy/in-disposable, however that happened. They, and hopefully I in the maybe near future, should believe that the characters they are managing are actually competent people that do not need help unless specifically asked. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. As someone born on Eridani IV close to the turn of the century, it always was an uphill battle. It always is for dregs, specifically if you end up in private prison for allegedly violating the Non-Aggression Protocol. Not the first time it happened, and it won’t be the last, but it is how the system works, and how it always worked. But instead of rotting in a cell, a suit comes up, with an offer to leave it all behind, and to redeem yourself, wouldn’t you take it? This is not much of a life after all. And so he listened, maybe out of morbid curiosity, but he did. His name and deeds forgotten, his hatred for corps wavering. A new dreg traitor was born. Arko became quite a stickler for rules and regulations just so they wouldn’t discard him and throw him back where they found him. Due to his… adaptable moral outlook, he excelled in Eagle Corp. In his off-time he studied, and through his excellent service he got into a Golden Fist sponsored program to study medicine. He passed, and through a mountain of paperwork, eventually was allowed to transfer to Sekhmet Intergalactic, starting as a young, inexperienced resident physician. He was good at his job, and did well for himself, though due to his reinstatement he was often kept away from suit coworkers, just in case. Nevertheless, he managed to earn some commendations and promotions, not exactly for exceptional service, but for his loyalty. His defining moments, however, was the aftermath of the Solarian collapse, with the incredibly predatory treatment of the victims of the Violet Dawn incident, and then the subsequent formation of the PMCG, and his re-assignment to the Corporate Reconstruction Zone. There he, and the small team under his command reinforced the middling forces of the Republic of Biesel after its land grab against the collapsing Alliance. Now completely devoid of any dreg-originated corporation hatred, Arko has grown quite fond of the idea of both the newly formed PMCG and SCC, though it took some time for him to gather the guts, and free time, to petition his superiors for a re-assignment. But he did, now only to wait for the SCC to consider his application for the position of a Chief Medical Officer on the ship he heard so much about. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? CMO mainly. But I would also like to try the Corporate Liaison/Consular Officer, or even a Captain, eventually. I don’t yet feel comfortable with other departments to say anything about them yet, but time will tell. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I did, though I will most likely re-read them several times over. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Arko Karikari, CMO Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course, hopefully it won’t come to that. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? Seems like I did, I think. Extra notes: No shame in trying, and failing is the first step on the road to success, or I might just not be cut out for commanding, we will see. Also, if there are issues with a reinstated dreg Head of Staff, I can re-write them to be just a suit, though I found no objections against such an origin on the wiki. I hope you enjoyed reading my application as much as enjoyed writing it.
  4. BYOND Ckey: RandomHomelessGuy Discord username: elorgrhg Character names: I have started playing on Aurora quite recently, so these might not be recognized at all, however, Tadeusz Gawron (Orion Janitor), Salvo Renn (Ringspire Officer), Isaiah Abraham (Zeng-Hu surgeon) [deleted], Julia Czajka (Zavodskoi Xenobiologist), Tadeusz Kania (Bridge Crew), Zakari Keita (Zeng-Hu Surgeon). Species you are applying to play: Unathi ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Darakath Brown Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Of course. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: As this is my first whitelist attempt (hello!) I was wondering which species would balance the familiar enough to play and alien culture, and I think Unathi are right in that spot. But beside that, I really like the idea of a species with this medieval/martial culture being thrust into a sci-fi setting, and how it affects the entire species. I was also instantly enamored by the lore of The Reclaimers, and the Dominian Unathi. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: With this question, one can of course focus on saying that the Unathi are a humanoid, cold-blooded, and very tall reptile species. But while the biology of the Unathi is interesting, the more relevant part is of course how they act. Be it their view on the gender roles, and how a warrior and healer is synonymous to “male” and “female” respectively, with how the artisans, engineers, etc being the gender-neutral fishers. And of course the idea that changing their role in society a Unathi also changes their gender. The feudal culture, the honor, their animist religions, their propensity to stare intently at things that interest them, their vehement dislike of being pointed at, and its doomsday or tranhumanist (transsinta?) cults. And last but not least, their inability to say the word “busy”. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Ahirazh Eleksh Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. (I think I wrote too much) Ahirazh hatched in 2442, sired as the sixth child in the Eleksh clan. It was a minor clan, originating from the southern part of Moghes, around Darakath and Sahltyr, forging their reputation as a Clan with a strong martial tradition, being eager to fight for a just cause. The recent of which being aligning themselves on the side of King Don'zai Azarak and the Traditionalist Coalition, having sent many warriors to a war from which they would not return from. It became a clan in clear decline, the majority of it perishing during the nuclear exchange and the following battles, some still ongoing. The clan leaders decided that this is not a war the clan will return from if continues like so, and so they fled into the new Wasteland, becoming one of the land-crawler-owning Reclaimers of Moghes. Ahirazh was born to replace the losses of the war, expected to carry on the clan’s warrior tradition like a proper man. Though Ahirazh was a weird case, he didn’t speak much, he preferred to slink away into the depths of the land-crawler to tinker with its various components. When given a weapon for training, he of course wouldn’t disobey the elders, and trained like he was told to, but soon after the training concluded, he found some secluded part of the land-crawler and disassembled and (hopefully) reassembled his weapon instead of returning it. As the clan was recovering from its massive losses, it was tolerated. Young Ahirazh himself didn’t see much purpose to this life, hearing of how his supposedly great clan was brought this low, to be forced to escape unequal fights, to eat meagerly, to scavenge random pre-war technology. He of course, never voiced his opinion. When it came to his education, Ahirazh listened to his elders, but didn’t see much point in things like writing, history and theology, he did believe in the Sk’akh like most of his clan, though like them, he wasn’t a devout follower. He did draw random, mostly-inaccurate blueprints of things he took apart but that was just a hobby. Though that changed when he started listening to various static riddled broadcasts from a radio he repaired with scrap. And he found something he really enjoyed, passionate sermons of repentance, of purification, of salvation in the era of extinction. Of cleansing nuclear fire, and of damnation. The teachings of prophet Juzida Si’akh didn’t sound mad, they sounded like truth, and resonated especially well to to a young member of a clan which was decimated by the Contact War. The belief that they achieved salvation, was one of the few happy thoughts Ahirazh could hold. Since then, Ahirazh changed, he started respecting his education more, and he used it to write down the sermons he heard on his radio. He talked more to members of his clan, to tell them about what he heard, though he was usually rebuked rather than being genuinely listened to. He still pursued his interest in tinkering with everything he could on the land-crawler, and instantly volunteering with various repairs that needed to be done. This interest was respected and very helpful, and his heresy tolerated due to the low population of the clan. With the war coming to an end, with the Hegemony proclaiming victory, the Eleksh clan finally had to admit that they lost, and cannot survive without external help, and so it lessened on its isolation. It began to focus on its numbers, on bolstering trade, and on finally accepting help. It started to move its crawler closer to more populated areas of the Wasteland, areas which had received help, or were stationed by either Hephaestus, or the colonies which the Interstellar Aid Corps was helping in. One day, while doing various maintenance to the crawler on his own, while close to an IAC outpost, Ahirazh was approached by some...thing, someone? Curious thing, no scales, no tail… was that the humans the elders told him about? It started speaking. He didn’t understand so he just stared, which seemed to perturb the human. It called for someone, and a Sinta approached them, dressed in green. This one, he understood. They said they were observing him for a while, the couple weeks the crawler was staying here, and noticed how adept he was at mending the crawler all on his own. They talked for a while, and the green-dressed Sinta presented him with an idea, how the human still standing next to them could offer Ahirazh great opportunity working for Hephaestus Industries. Ahirazh called the elders to discuss this transfer, and after a long discussion they agreed, under one condition, that he would return one day to teach the hatchlings the crafts he learned from the aliens. And so, Ahirazh went with the aliens, but he had one condition himself, that first they would take him to the Queendom, to find fellow Si’akh followers that could preside over the ritual of Ahirazh becoming a fisher, instead of just being a warrior that contributed to repairing the crawler, as everyone in the clan was expected to. They complied. Having packed some simple clothing, he now went with the aliens. From around 2465 onward, Ahirazh was dragged around various Hephaestus facilities as an Engineering Apprentice. They brought Ahirazh all over Moghes, and eventually to Ouerea, culture shocking the poor young Sinta like never before. Though through socializing with the aliens, Ahirazh realized they weren’t as bad as the clan elders told him about, and with spending a lot of their days with them, it allowed Ahirazh to practice their Ceti Basic. Even though I don’t exactly think a Reclaimer clan could be directly affected much by things, I think the Phoron Scarcity, and the events from the end of the Contact War up to the Titan Rises arc would affect Ahirazh and their clan the most. As it happened around the time during which the Eleksh clan ended its isolation, during which food was hard to come by, arguably on the entirety of Moghes, up until the famine ended thanks to Hephaestus at the cost of Ouerean democracy and the corporation owning all the Unathi guilds. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? I think Ahirazh would be between being indifferent and somewhat positive in regards to Hephaestus. Due to letting them leave the Wasteland, which arguably is not a good place to live in, and helping all of Sinta, with the famine relief, which also impacted their clan. Though, following the anti-corporate teachings of Judiza Si’akh, they would most likely be slightly apprehensive of their stranglehold of recovering Moghes.
