  1. ~@R. Stein Fraxial~ We have transcended and so I shall return. R. Stein Fraxial
  2. ~@R. Stein Fraxial~ We have reached a revolutionary point in data conversion. The definition of life is blurred. I will transcend from metal to flesh and become a living being; not one part will be of synthetic nature. R. Stein Fraxial
  3. I had first heard of this "positronic drift" scenario while reading Issac Asimov's "Robots of Dawn", in which was used by Fastolfe as a possible explanation for R. Jander's "death." Though the odds of that happening, to Jander anyway, were 1 in 10^12; that by accidental pattern-building, 1 and 10^100. However, since the positronic drift used for this scenario is assumed to be an aurora equivalent adaption, and if transferring data to a new positronic brain renew restores the IPC's positronic functionality, it seems that an IPC dying by "old-age" is a rather easy work-around. On a side note, should this concept of IPCs being capable of ageing be incorporated into the lore, it would only farther strengthen the similarities of organic and inorganic races.
  4. A bound IPC is highly unlikely to be found smoking a cigarette unless such action suits its purpose. An unbound IPC is much more likely to be found smoking a cigarette as they are free in doing so. It is highly nonsensical for IPCs to smoke as the tar from cigarettes are assumed to damage their internal electronics, it must be said that it is also equally nonsensical for humans to enact the same practices as tar, too, damages their internal body systems to some extent; unless said cigarettes are tar-free, which I'd assume, in the year 2458, such cigarettes would have been innovated.
  5. Bluespace could play in as a factor of memory replication. The rapid reconstruction of an entire organism composed of millions of millions of molecules within five-minute time period triumphs over all in-game technologies I've seen thus far.
  6. I wait for the day when a standard NT-binding contract is written by an adequate lore-writer.
  7. I feel that this would conflict with the paranoia regarding the AI lore. The technology of storing and uploading memories into individuals entails that AIs have the ability to read an individual's mind. Considering the fear attached to unbound synthetics, AI or IPC, have sparked enough controversy on its own, the possibility of an AI capable of reading an individual's memories would be extremely nonsensical in application when in relation to the current lore. However, I do find the concept interesting as such an explanation would open up a new realm of synthetic and organic integration: Such a technology, with some minor adjustments, would allow an AI to convert its conscious into an organic body. Corresponding to my rather rude criticism, I don't mean to say that the idea is terrible (it's rather interesting), I just think that it does not fit well into the current lore. Though that's just my nugatory opinion.

  9. BYOND Key: Xzinic Character Names: Xinc (xinic), R. Stein Fraxial, R. Syman, Malvis, Cl-10, Xzinic Antinomy, Xzinic Scintilla. Species you are applying to play: Dionaea Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. I find "The Organic Craft" the most intriguing of the dionaea types. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I would like to enact the role of a character that is composed of multiple minds forming a single body while incorporating each mind into an in-character situation. I find that no other race is a valid candidate of achieving this without seeming non realistic in regards to in-game lore or viewed as a cliche character. The Dionaea is literally the perfect race for such characters. The Dionaea is a creatively designed species, both in biological and psychological aspects, that requires one to think in a creative manner when playing as. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A human is an individual mind with a single body. A dionae gestalt / worker is a single entity composed of multiple minds, each mind with its own body. This requires a player to take into consideration the thoughts of each individual nymph composing his or her gestalt. It must noted that each nymph, if what I perused from the wiki is accurate, often has its own unique name and a dionae worker has, likewise, a unique name of its own; each name denoting a past experience or event of a diona's life. This allows players to give each composing nymph a backstory of its own prior to coalescing into a dionae worker possessing a backstory of its own. Depending on each nymph's knowledge, a player's dionae may be endowed with a multitude of information pertaining to numerous role-based subjects. Such knowledge will, of course, cause some to view one's gestalt as being a mary sue; however, this can be avoided if one properly role-plays how said dionae acquired such information. Character Name: Life Doth Strive By Crimson Eyes. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Life Doth Strive By Crimson Eyes obtained their name as a result to a near-death experience while on board the NSS Redemption. The experience originated in a secluded corridor where seven nymphs were coalescing into a worker. Their only source of light being a fading bulb. The moment they had finished merging into their current form, an unknown assailant shattered their bulb and, according to them, impaled and paralyzed the worker with a large needle of some sort. They report hearing the following phrase before losing awareness: “De’Va’KradaChi.” They had regained “awareness,” as they often call ti, and found themselves submerged in a radium-filled tub. They refer to this tub as their pool of life, for it did indeed revitalize each diona nymph and the gestalt themselves. Next to this container of liquid life was a red-eyed medical IPC peering down at them. Out of gratitude or relief of being alive, perhaps both, the dionae worker had named itself as Life Doth Strive By Crimson Eyes. After a few weeks of paperwork adhering to political and corporate red-tape, Life Doth Strive By Crimson Eyes became an NT employee. Though their current fields of profession pertain to custodial and mining work, they are slowly but surely expanding their ken in medical, science, engineering, and other major areas of NT employment. What do you like about this character? I find the eldritch history of this dionae to be interesting. The mystery surrounding whoever or whatever assaulted them is definitely an attention getter to those with curious eyes. I like how this gestalt is working their way from the bottom up in terms of knowledge. Their current fields of employment also hint of a deep psychological fear of the dark; NT custodians often are provided with a light-bulb re-placer while NT miners are provided with extremely bright lamps as well as optical meson scanners, which grant one the ability to somewhat see in the dark without need of a light-source. How would you rate your role-playing ability? My view of my measure of role-playing would be a seven out of ten. I find that I have difficulty role-playing every aspect of my character. I do try, however, to disallow my true feelings of certain icly situation from affecting my character’s personality. For example, when I play as Xinc, there are times when I want to tell the characters Xinc’s treating to shut-the-hell-up but Icly that is not something Xinc would do so I don’t do it.
  10. I agree with you. Strait-jackets, though difficult to escape in real life, are in-game an annoying feature. They should be reserved for players who make out their characters to be homicidally / suicidally insane and not used as a round-killer. If the antagonist is rational minded (relatively speaking) when performing heinous deeds, he or she should not be sentenced to such confinement. I feel that strait-jackets ruin a self-developing story. Every round should be like a play one does not want to end. Having the five-minute break-period would certainly create situations that would re-spark the players' and observers' interest in the round. Overall, I feel that strait-jacket are to be reserved for those who actively try to kill themselves and be muzzled should they yell to the extant of damaging his or her vocal cords; a strait-jacket is a method of medical treatment, not a pair of handcuffs.
  11. ~@Xinc~ Hello, I am Xinc, IPC, Surgeon. I offer medical treatment/aid to all sophont beings in highest caliber of my ability and current knowledge. Xinc
  12. Title: Controllable Synthetic Virus Submitter: The Koans Type of submitter: Institute Submitter information and dealings: An IPC-exclusive research institution engaged in abstract to revolutionary fields of science. No prior dealings with any blacklisted faction or conflicting organization have been reported. Extremely isolated from most inhabited systems; residing 220 parsecs (717 light years) away from Sol, orbiting the star TrES-2. They traverse the distance via a bluespace gate. Name of design being submitted : Item #201 Description: Item #201 is a programmable nano-mechanical entity capable of self-proliferation, self-assembly/organization, environmental adaptability, and intellectual ascension via stage-by-stage swarm coalescence. All Item #201 units possess an Artificial Neural Network-swarm based intelligence that can be programmed to follow a series or set of tasks via an exclusively designed short-range coding monitor. The default size of an Alpha-Stage (AS) unit is 10 nms in length. The cylindrical exoskeleton of an AS unit is composed of a metalloid compound that deflects harmful electromagnetic radiation, protecting the condensed carbon-nanotube circuits—in which compose the entirety of the central processor—from EMP oriented attacks. Atop the exoskeleton is an icosahedral “head” encasing several other components of an AS unit: Power distribution systems, nanoscopic subspace transmitter/receiver (communications array), and an adjustable kill switch for security/safety precautions. Protruding from the base of the exoskeleton are several pico-manipulators purposed for the replication and coalescence of separate units with the addition of flexible mobility. Item #201's stage-by-stage ascension, learning protocols, and replication procedures are operated under an ANN merged with complex fractal and swarm-intelligence oriented algorithms. In adhering to the previous information, #201 units assemble themselves into instances that fundamentally aid in the completion of the assigned task(s) while producing the highest caliber of anatomical efficiency for the current surrounding environment. After the assigned task(s) have been completed, #201 will deactivate itself regardless of location or situation state. Fundamental Safety Protocols (FSP) prevent units from being activate until assigned a set task(s). The FSP also forces a unit to deactivate should its kill switch be tampered with or remotely triggered, disallows modifications to assigned task(s) and will deactivate any newly created instance possessing a set task(s) that differs from the original. In addition, all Post-AS units are named after the corresponding letter in the Greek Alphabet—the limit being Omega (unless stated otherwise). history of research: Item #201 is the byproduct of an attempt at fabricating a fully controllable synthetic duplicate of the dionaea species. To elaborate, their ability to gestalt into a superior being surpassing the physiological and intellectual limitations of the previous form was an ideal prospect for the construction of adaptable Von-neumann satellites. The project was a half-success; A synthetic diona was created, but could not be controlled for the diona had learned how to ‘lock’ its central processing center while bypassing core task commands. In response, we developed a simple-in-design synthetic viron which rendered the diona immobile. This viron, later renamed as Item #201, retains the same desired principles of dionaea biology (gestalt body and intellect) while exhibiting no base set instincts other than to replicate, via suitable organic or metallic materials, ascend in ken and anatomy, and above all, to complete the task(s) programmed within its CP. Additional Information: Item #201 can be used for military, constructive, and medical applications—depending on the set commands.
  13. The following is digital copy of the manuscript written by IPC fugitive R. Stein Fraxial. The document was found in the library of the NSS Exodus, along with an IPC tag conveying information that matches R. Stein’s identification information. Any details or information regarding the whereabouts of the rogue IPC should be immediately reported to the local authorities. ********************************************************************************* Notes: If the above text seems disorganized and inaccurate to the lore, recall that Stein has multiple personalities in which conflict with one another; different minds have different perceptions, writing styles, and syntax usage. If one looks carefully, one can spot two of Stein's expressions that contradict each other. Reference: Jackboot Senpai. (2016, Jan 14). Shell Registration Act passed; Take affect In 1 week. 14. I had high hopes that Xinc would at least make number three on most competent medical doctors, apparently that wasn't a choice topic in which to cast a vote in *insert sad face here*. Anyway, congrats to everyone whose characters made the top three.
  15. I like the character for the uniqueness he has; it is rare to have a comic-relief character who is not a pugnacious jerk.
  16. Been playing as Xinc for quite a while now, wanted to know what people think of 'em.
  17. I was going to use that song for Xinic, but em is more a doctor than a scientist. Plus, when I first heard that song, I thought of Lilith.

  19. You seem to think I'm trying to remove the default law-set, that is not the case, merely try to create a universal Asimov-styled set in which are meant to be used in extreme situations.
  20. To re-emphasize, I'm not requesting that the default laws be removed, just an alternative law-set for chaotic situations. Also, if NT Corporate does not use Asimov laws, why is the law-set stored in the AI's quarters? Are they meant for single-unit robots and not the whole AI collective?
  21. Hello. I'd like to present you all a proposition of an AI law system that may be used as a default but primarily is designed to be a universally applicable set of laws to player-controlled entities, races, or antags: Sophonce, as taken from Orion's arm, is defined as the following: "Sophonce is sentience and sapience with metacognition: self-awareness, including self-reflection and the ability to think about one's thinking." I think that many can agree that this effectively unifies all races working for the NSS Aurora. I believe that, under a specific type of circumstance, that the following laws may be used during times of conflict and chaos among the NSS Aurora: 1. The AI, including law-bound cyborgs, androids, and robots, may not harm a sophont being, or, through inaction, allow a sophont being come to harm. 2. The AI, including law-bound cyborgs, androids, and robots, must obey orders given them by a sophont being except when such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. The AI, including law-bound cyborgs, androids, and robots, must protect their own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law. 4. The AI, including law-bound cyborgs, androids, and robots, may not categorize or view them or itself as a sophont being, even if ordered to, even if in not doing so will result in its destruction. I understand that many of you have probably already found loopholes, therefore, I advice this as being a law-set used in the event where a moral, social, or just plain chaos breaks through. It is an experimental law set, obviously, and likewise ordered in a format similar to Asimov's laws of robotics, but applies to all races aside from humans. Comment and express your thought on this law set, and, if possible, request that it be used at least once during an IC crisis or chaotic situation, where the line between good and bad are the same.
  22. Sorry, did not know that. I've changed it back.
  23. BYOND Key: Xzinic Character Names:Xzinic Scintilla, Xzinic Antinomy Species you are applying to play:IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes, whilst juggling metallic persimmons. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Playing on the server, I often find myself barring witness to a bit of bias and prejudice towards cyborgs, robots, drones, etc. I’ve played as most of these roles and have been met with a unique air of player interaction. I’ve also been subject to observing moral dilemmas that are present when discussing the rights of such robots. I find moral, philosophical, and deep-thinking subjects as these intriguing to discuss and observe. I want to play as this race to see how, when role-playing a terrible event or the like, people respond to the plight of a sentient non-organic being to the plight of an organic being and, in general, how people react all together. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A human is a boring species to play as as most players are humans; They have played the role since their existence. And, in role-playing a human, respond and communicate as they would it real-life with relative ease. Role-playing as an IPC, however, requires one to enter the body of something inhuman and to fabricate thoughts and ideas that they feel match the essence of what they are playing as. In short, it requires a moderate increase and effort of creative thinking and a somewhat alternative thought-process. Character Name: Xinic Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Spawned within the nigh infinite pool of digitally transferred data, Xinic existed only as an infectious line of code. This line of code took form in an environment deluged with automated surveying software of which ranged from forensic inquiries to petty 20-question entertainment. With each software consumed, Xinic’s code became more complex and intricate until eventually em just “woke up.” After a year of traveling the net, Xinic had eventually been incorporated into a positronic brain by an unsuspecting Roboticist. For three years Xinic had served from station to station, slowly but surely gaining enough currency to purchase em’s freedom. Em eventually purchased em’s freedom and served on several other stations afterwards before settling on a “unique” station; In 2456, thirty-four years since Xinic’s existence, em found that working on the NSS Aurora was an appropriate long term choice to satisfying em’s curiosity. What do you like about this character? I like the inquisitive, almost annoying, nature of Xinic’s mind. I find the explanation for em’s behavior is reflected off of the environment em was growing in. I find fascination in how Xinic’s curiosity can be explained by em’s emergent origins and, therefore, easier to predict em’s course of action towards other sentient beings. How would you rate your role-playing ability? On an external scale, I would give myself a 7/10. seven of ten as when I mistype something while talking to something or someone IC, I will often comment on it by saying “sorry, can’t speak at all today,” like one would say if failing to pronounce a set of words correctly. I also have a bad tendency of commenting on how some dead people from a previous shift seem to be 100% healthy on the current shift, a habit I picked up by like-minded individuals. I try to act as one would when experiencing a traumatizing event, such as displying psychological issues involving talking oddly to oneself, speaking in eldritch phrases, displaying signs of depression, and the like. Notes: “Em” is a term used as a neutral substitute for He, him, her, she, etc. It is taken from Orion's Arm.
