AbandonedScholar's Mod Application
The Storyteller replied to The Storyteller's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I apologize, I didn't mean to make it seem like I was ignoring you. I've been a bit busy, and when I originally viewed your reply, I wasn't sure how to respond, as simple as the suggestion was. I would certainly be willing to join the discussion on reworking of the brig. Is there currently a thread designated for these discussions? If so, please do point me in the right direction. -
BYOND key: AbandonedScholar Character names: Alexander Lecter, Arssa Vess, Arthur Beaumont, and some smaller ones(including some not known on this server.) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Over a year, with some downtime once in a while. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I enjoy running the different sections of the station, and playing head makes way for interesting role-play alternatives. Why did you come to Aurora?: The thought of heavy role-play on Space Station 13 was enticing to me, and after a bit of time on the server, I found that interest to be well invested. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes I have. Over the past few years of playing SS13, I have spent time in each head role at some point or another, learning the roles and developing understanding of what it's like to be in that position. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-play is, for me, chiefly about making an enjoyable experience for yourself and the players around you. You take the position of a character outside of reality, and embody that character to the best of your ability. In this way, you make memorable, and hopefully pleasant experiences for everyone involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: It is the responsibility of the head to monitor the other players of their section, and to do their best to make sure that everyone can be involved in some way with the current role-play. The head is also to make sure that players understand what is expected of their job, and to help them LOOC as well as IC to the best of their ability. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Be an exemplary member of the community, showing other players how they are expected to behave in a respectful and friendly way. I'd like to think that I am generally a very friendly person, and I would strive to be helpful and friendly, whilst respecting the guidelines of the rules of the server. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Alexander Lecter lulfukdatguy Arssa Vess Character age: 30 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Arssa Vess is a timid and quiet Unathi. He is soft spoken, and often has his eyes downcast. As a young Unathi, his father expected much of him as a growing warrior. However, despite these high expectations, Arssa grew to be a more slender Unathi, quite feminine in physique. This distressed and displeased Vess' family greatly, estranging him from his family up until date of their death by slaughter, upon which he was adopted. Despite his troubling youth, Arssa did his best to make the best of his new life aboard a new home. However, his emotional security took a beating when he began undergoing verbal and physical harassment from the many Unathi he ran into during his life. These many instances of physical and mental torture have made him very uncomfortable towards people he does not know, especially when it comes to those who share his race. Once again, aside of these many trials, Arssa began his work to becoming a valuable scientist at the age of 15, first working as an unpaid intern in biomechanical engineering. Showing promise in this field, and a large interest in science as a whole, he spent the next several years perfecting his craft, and working to try and make himself feel appreciated. After several years of this work, and some time as an assistant in science, Arssa began an 8 year educational program to learn the ins-and-outs of working in and running a science department. Following this expedition, Arssa hopped through the system for a few years, before landing himself on the Aurora with his good friend Axton Florent. What do you like about this character?: I generally play a character that is intended to be enjoyable for people who like entertainment created by antagonists. With Vess being a much kinder character, it allows me to role-play something unlike I general play. What do you dislike about this character?: This character has a tendency to be far too nice, and has in the past taken the fall for things that were not his fault, simply because it was asked of him. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yesplz i dont want to do this all over again. Why?: He's intelligent, capable, and easy to work with. He can be professional when he needs to, and he is adept in science. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Like, Dungeons and Dragons, or something? That thing nerds do? Extra notes:

In this way, you make memorable, and hopefully pleasant experiences for everyone involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to do about the same as the Head of Staff IC. You are to run the section, and make sure everything runs smoothly. That means, if one of your staff does not understand a certain part of their job, you take action, potentially in LOOC to help them better understand their position. Character name: Alexander Lecter Character age: 35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Alexander Lecter is a sarcastic character, very cynical with little respect for the people and things around him. He struggles to take very important situations seriously, and is generally very snide and acts in an over-dramatic and very fake friendly manner to most people. He has a tendency to violence, most commonly the one to provoke it in a situation where it is unnecessary. Despite being a sociopath, Alexander is exceptional at his job, able to complete most surgical practices with easy. He does what he needs to do, and he has saved lives on multiple occasions. Before becoming a surgeon, he practiced medicine for five years, however he was unsatisfied with certain facets of the position, leading to the interest in change. What do you like about this character?: Being a character who is antagonistic in nature results in many opportunities for interaction, making the character enjoyable for the players around him. What do you dislike about this character?: This is a character who I have found to be monumentally more interesting as an actual antagonist, and although this generally does not take away from role-play as a non-antagonist, it has situations where it is unpleasant. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes. Why?: Although the specifics of Alexander's mental health is 'iffy' at best, he is highly capable of doing his job, and has proven so on many occasions. That being said, arguments could be made in both directions, as his history among the crew is less than peachy. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 5/10. My role-play is something I've always looked to improve upon. Extra notes:

AbandonedScholar's Mod Application

That's a hard question for me to answer. I don't really have any serious negative feelings towards the community or game mechanics. I don't, as of this point, harbor any ill will towards any part of the community. Regardless of any qualms I may have, I like to think that once the round ends, it's over, so it's best not to dwell on anything like that. If I were to consider any feelings I have towards any part of the community as negative, I would have to refer to the fact that there seems to be some underlying hostilities among some players. However, although these problems could be considered serious, I think that they are a minority among the very pleasant community that exists on the server. So, with that being said, I suppose I'll try to answer your question with an alter to game mechanics. I hope you don't mind. I've noticed a few times while playing that during the processing session for criminals, both minor and major, there comes a tendency for the security staff to be overwhelmed, leaving the accused alone for extended periods of time. As I feel that this causes the player's role-play to suffer greatly, where in some cases, even I have found myself strapped down in a straight jacket for exceedingly long amounts of time, with no real contact to the rest of the crew, I find this to be somewhat of an important problem. Security can not always be blamed for this situation, regardless of whether or not they should be held accountable. So, I suppose, if there was a way to make this problem less prominent, and therefore make the role-play a bit more fluid, I'd push for that. This brings up the somewhat unrelated topic that I've always wanted straight jackets to be escapable, even if it took 10+ minutes, as I have had situations where it would be possible to escape, even with a 10 minute time-frame for getting out. TLDR; I'm a big nerd. -
This is an idea that is a bit unnecessary, but also something that I think would be rather interesting, if included. Basically, it's a way to attack someone in a more role-play oriented way. It's initiated in the same way that the give command is, you stand next to them, and they receive a message, "_____ would like to perform an RP attack on you." The attack will damage the selected person on the selected limb, with the set damage for whatever weapon they are using. This attack can also be performed on yourself. The only thing that's different, is that the red text for the attack is customized to better fit the role-play by the attacker. For example, if someone is causing self harm within the role-play for a cult, or whatnot, rather than the text reading something along the lines of, "____ stabs themselves in the right arm!" the text could read, "____ drags the scalpel along his arm, groaning as he cuts into his own flesh." Or, perhaps, if someone is intent on killing another within the role-play, "____ slams _____'s face with his knee, knocking him to the floor. _____ begins repeatedly stomping on his head," blah blah blah. Or, if you really wanted, you could to a separate RP attack for each action. Like I said, not really necessary, but a kinda neat possibility in my opinion. Anyways, have a good one!

Ryfer's mod application.
The Storyteller replied to Ryfer's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
In complete seriousness, being a personal friend of Ryfer, and having known him for a long time; I think he's a good fit for the role. He's friendly, very calm, and is a fast learner. He's well liked among the community of every server we visit, and he knows his stuff about the game. Only thing that could use improvement is his lack of any kind of attention span. Kisskiss. Scrub. -

AI Name(s): I don't generally play AI. Preferred means of contact: I can be contacted on the BYOND client, Skype, or e-mail if necessary. Age: 18 Timezone: Eastern Standard Time When are you on Aurora?: I've always had a passion for serious role-play, and I like making connections. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: The only times I've ever been banned were for mis-understandings, and they were usually sorted out rather quickly. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I enjoy making friends, and I've always enjoyed role-playing. Why do you play on Aurora?: I like heavy RP, and the characters you meet on the server are very appealing. What do moderators do?: They deal with simple incidents within the server, and refer more complex ones to the admins. They try to keep the peace, whilst remaining friendly and unbiased. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To be diligent, observant, and kind. To be able to assist the populace in maintaining an enjoyable role-playing experience. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I enjoy making new friends, and I like to have a seamless role-playing experience. I want a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere, and I want to help make things nice for everyone. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I am personable, friendly, and diligent. I can be kind, but I can also perform more serious tasks if necessary. I am good at being unbiased when it comes to troubling situations. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: It's generally very difficult to make me uncomfortable. I am not easily insulted, and am not a very angry person. I handle stress well, and can work well while under pressure. Anything else you want to add: I am up very late in to the night! BYOND Key: AbandonedScholar Character Names: Alexander Lecter, Parser King How long have you been playing on Aurora: I've been playing on and off over the last few months. I've probably played about a month cumulatively. Species you are applying to play: Unathi Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always been interested in playing alien species, specifically Unathi, because of both the physical and psychological differences with the races. It's fun playing with the cultural diversities, especially on a server with higher role-play standards. It allows for a more immersive and varied experience, which makes the game fun for me. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi have an obvious physical difference to Humans, giving them a somewhat intimidating position when compared to their Human counterparts. Also, their culture results in different emotional reactions to certain people and situations. I very much enjoy playing with the little mannerisms and slight differences between Unathi and Human characters. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I've had characters in the past which have been Unathi, some in particular which I've made deep back stories for. I would like to bring these characters to the Aurora station to bring the characters to life here as well. Most of my favorite role-playing experiences have come out of playing an Unathi character. Character Name: Artyom Vetochkin Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Artyom Vetochkin was born into a violent background in the midst of a conflict on his home planet of Moghes. This resulted in the death of his parents only weeks after he was born. However, he was recovered from his home during a lull in the combat, and adopted - and named - onto a Russian mining station. On this station he learned to speak Russian fluently, and began his learning process among the crew of the vessel. Due to the primarily Russian station containing a crew deriving almost entirely of humans, for several years after his arrival his heritage and the lore of his people was lost to him. He was raised as any human child was, lacking in all but the diet of an Unathi hatchling. As he grew, Artyom learned a great many things about how to perform several ship upkeep tasks. He became interested in the art of Bartending, becoming very popular among his Russian kin. He also took time to learn the processes of Robotics in his spare time, making him a skilled machine operator. He met his closest friend on this vessel, and they spent many years station hopping, trying to make a decent living together. What do you like about this character? He is a very personable character, with a back story that I think fits him well. I've had many experiences with him, and he has become well liked on other stations I've played on. I understand what kind of person I've made him to be, and therefore I play him well in a role-play scenario. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6 Carrots / 9 Carrots. Notes:
