  1. I mean, I didn't honestly think coming clean as JustMercy would result in an immediate re-acceptance into the community, but I have behaved these past few months while playing on the server. The incident that caused my permanent ban was, I will admit, in poor taste and clearly inappropriate. I trolled someone on the Byond Pager and sent them a google image of a gay pornstar. This has been since inflated as some illegal act by Dea, but honestly, I don't see the grounds. I'm 21. The person in question has been confirmed to be an adult under UK law. So I suppose what this really has developed into is a scary ghost story, as the reference on Rusty's ban thread reveals. I will forever be known as that guy who broke rule #1. So yeah, don't break rule #1 or you'll have to keep playing at Aurora for years at a time under other aliases.
  2. Oh, does it make a difference if the IP you banned was a university's server? I mean, I doubt anyone there plays this game, but...
  3. For the record, did I at least do alright these past four or so months? I've certainly enjoyed how Aurora has eased off from the heavy roleplay requirements.
  4. BYOND Key: JustMercy1994, LoneTophat Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: VoltageHero, my favorite person, really. Reason of Ban: I admitted to being LoneTophat and apparently "bandodged" by moving into a new apartment and playing here for a few months. Reason for Appeal: I sent a picture of a rather famous gay porn star when I was trolling some person like a year ago. I have since played here for about three or four months with only minor incidents occurring. I've also been whitelisted, again, and have several Head of Staff characters you know and love. I'm not so bad, am I? JustMercy, ya know?
  5. Oh, where do others roleplay outside of the actual server? The forums? Interesting.
  6. I've also been experiencing some rather weird crashes this past week. My laptop is utter shite, admittedly, but its run BYOND fine in the past. It tends to go inactive (non-responsive) when I'm in-game at random intervals. Tabbing out seems to increase the likelihood...
  7. interesting. It's clearly been designed by individuals with a higher level of knowledge than whoever slapped Baycode together. But god, Skull's right, it'd take a lot of time and effort to transfer resources over and make it work within the existing code base. I still think there's some great features Goon has that we could compare to our own and utilize or build off from.
  8. Certainly, I've added additional portions to my application from suggestions made by others as well as some extra notes addressing this specifically.
  9. BYOND key: JustMercy1994 Character names: P.A.N.D.O.R.A., Malcolm Shaw. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A week or so. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'd like to be able to play an IAA because it's frankly essentially what I do iRL right now. Let's break that down; Space Station 13 is touted as a workplace simulator by some, a ganktastic murderboning mess by others. I've had my fill of servers like that, I'd like to settle down and handcraft a bureaucratic enigma that acts as the impartial NanoTrasen arbiter. I've really no interest in playing any Head of Staff roles, so I will not be designing a character to be the Captain or Research Director or what have you. Why did you come to Aurora?: Ah, well, as I said above, I enjoy the emphasis you folks give towards a playful yet sophisticated roleplay environment. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yep! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the ability to fully immerse yourself in the surrounding environment and personal characteristics of a fictional character. It's entertaining for me because it acts as both a getaway from the humdrum of real life and also a means to express my creativity. SS13 gives us the opportunity to sit together and interactively craft a story that fits all of our needs. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Well, a Head of Staff is designed to facilitate responsibilities amongst their employees and manage any departmental conflicts or emergencies that arise throughout the shift. Luckily, I really don't want to do that. The role of Internal Affairs is to be a neutral arbiter that represents the will of the larger NanoTrasen corporation. It provides an essential bridge between NMSS Odin and NSS Auroroa, giving administrator the opportunity to impact the round's story in meaningful ways. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted community members should behave in a manner that reflects well on the overall server. It's that simple. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. I just handcrafted this IA character for this application specifically. Character name: James Warder. Character age: 32. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): James was born on Biesel, being raised on the impoverished outskirts of Mendell City by his single mother. Life was difficult early on, as the well-trained police force of the inner-city rarely patrolled the gang-infested streets of his neighborhood. James' father was a violent thug in the employ of one of the local strongmen, and so he was often in and out of the prison industrial complex. This gave the young Warder an intimate look into the existing criminal justice system, and proved enough to scare him off from crime for good. The intermittent physical and psychological abuse he both witnessed and was subjected to by his father left an indelible mark on his life. His mother was a history schoolteacher, so despite the family dysfunction James was learned from a young age that an education was essential to success in life. Warder earned his doctorate in law at the age of 24, and promptly abandoned his mother and father to whatever their sad fates would allow. He was offered an Internal Affairs position by NanoTrasen due to his high marks and impeccable character, and so he took it and moved off-world to the orbiting NMSS Odin. Its here he worked for 8 long years, slowly climbing the ranks in the hopes of being afforded the opportunity to work in a more high-pressure environment. James got what he wanted when he was finally transferred at the age of 32 to NSS Aurora, NanoTrasen's most advanced research and mining facility. He hoped he could accomplish a great deal working at NSS Aurora as their neutral arbiter, as he dreamed of driving to the top of NanoTrasen's legal hierarchy. What do you like about this character?: He models my own life relatively well. What do you dislike about this character?: He models my own life relatively well. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Well, he's certainly fit to be an Internal Affairs agent, having worked the job for eight years prior in NMSS Odin. His law degree no doubt means he's professionally qualified to deal with any situations that may arise aboard NSS Aurora. And of course, his thirst for justice may prove useful... To clarify, I see James as just ambitious and hardworking enough to succeed, while dually having just enough neurosis from past abuses to be an intriguing and three dimensional character. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Depends on the day, frankly. Sometimes I can bang out a proper paragraph of pure literature, others I'm happy just giving one-liners from popular videogames and movies. I'll be attempting to find a happy balance between the two, to better meet the environment aboard NSS Aurora. Extra notes: Having witnessed a round last night where duty officers came aboard NSS Aurora and provoked some intriguing roleplay opportunities, I am even more dedicated now to recieve an IA position. It seems like the perfect opportunity to bridge that gap between crew, command, and Central officials. I look forward to it immensely.
