LordPwner
BYOND Key: LordPwner Character Names: Uriel J. Evans (Captain), Kelly D. Evans (Head of Security, Oak S. Evans (Research Director), Raven M. Evans (Gardner), Data M: DG S:A 291 (Borg), Data M: DG S:B 291 (pAI), Data M: DG S: O (AI), Tye Davis (Engineer), Goodwin Lord (Security Officer), James 'Sparky' Knight (L/Tpr) Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Green? Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I've read it, yes. .... Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'd like to play Dionae for their interesting way to gain and lose knowledge. Their combination of nymphs or Diona. Playing the Dionae would give me a new experience on the server and with the RP in general. I've RP'd quite a few humans and I'd really like to get another species in my playerlist and they caught my eye the most. Yeah IPC's woo.. but I mean, knowledge from changing of nymphs.. It really fascinating Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well they are asexual so unlike a human they won't go out looking for a mate as point one. Two, all in their society are viewed as equal and really the only social distinction would be their knowledge AKA the Neophytes and Sages. Three, They are slower so their speech patterns would be slower as well. They would be more likely to take pauses and skip over smaller words AKA fluff. To hit back on the knowledge point also, they most likely would not go to any religion or any destructive hobbies because the Dionae are too busy searching for knowledge. ...... ...... Character Name: Pebbles From The River Bed Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs .....When our Dionae was a young Diona or a little nymph. It found its interest by the side of the river near a row of berry bushes. Our little nymph was drawn to the river bed by all the shiny pebbles which rested on the bottom. He would munch on the berries then stare upon the shiny rocks, reaching into the slow, calm waters to grab at them with his tendrils. Though a question has to come to mind. Where is our little hero grown? Where was he developed? He was grown south of Mendell city near a small river by a small human family. They grew him a pod and had originally named him "Bark" to symbolize the mighty tree he would grow into one day. Though to point us back to the start, they began to call him Pebbles due to his uncanny fixation upon the pebbles at the bottom of the river bed. ........Our hero is working to gain knowledge of engine operation. He has the desire and drive to learn how to be the grandest engineering in all of Nanotrasen. He did get his citizenship with the Republic of Biesel after growing out of his nymph stage and into his Dionae stage. He is a sponge for knowledge and radiation. He seeks to work as an Engineering Apprentice for NanoTrasen in the Tau Ceti Sector to begin his work of learning basic engine operation and other cool engineering stuff like solars and breaches. He also wishes to start school to begin getting his degree in Electrical Engineering but no matter what he learns. He will never forget the pebbles. What do you like about this character? He likes Pebbles, you can call him Pebbles, and I think He will end up being a very fun character to play with a lot to adapt to. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say I'm a pretty good RPer. I've been here for a long time and I have a collection of characters. I'd say a hard 6.5 out of 10 Notes: I've had a round where I played as a nymph by being grown and I did fairly well. I do hope for the chance to make my bouncing baby Pebble boy shine! Please leave feed back! Link to comment
Lonely Caravan
Pwner is a good player, I roleplayed a lot with him, and seen several people talk about the same in relation to other characters that I didn't have the chance to roleplay with. I'm convinced that he's good enough to play as a Diona. +1 Link to comment
Tailson
Unfortunately I know so little about Dionaea lore that I doubt I can drop much of a recommendation-bomb in terms of how the character portrayed here is written up. I have interacted with their other characters, however, notably Uriel, Oak and some of the Data M series of stationbounds. Most of them when playing Harmony, but once or twice on other characters. The most significant thing I can say is that LordPwner plays their non-human Data M characters very convincingly, I enjoy interacting with them because they are decidedly non-human, which I consider to be a very important thing to be able to do when playing a race that differs from humans probably more than any other does. They are consistent with their roleplay and do not break character, all the while playing engaging and interesting characters. So now, questions for LordPwner: The childlike character you've described (childlike in that they fixate on rocks) is interesting. I don't think I've seen that sort of thing on a Diona before. Then again, most diona I interact with are either grown in round or extremely old. It looks like you're going for a different angle here. Would Pebbles retain this childlike demeanour on station? I assume you will be playing as an engineering apprentice? Can always use more engineers. One of us. Link to comment
LordPwner
Tailson Thank you for the feedback and the question! I was going to have Pebbles be a younger Dionae, not super young but, young enough that he still lacks a good hunch of knowledge. He'd be very child-like in his search for knowledge and Pebbles. Fruity Pebbles, regular pebbles, the good stuff. But in seriousness He will be quite innocent in his hunt for knowledge! As other Dionae he has the desire to learn. Once again thank you! Elohi Adanvdo
Heya, Pwner. I'm here to review your application now, and I'm seeing a few things here. Personally, I love your characters. The one I remember the most is Evans Uriel- pretty professional, good at command, but also taking personal interest in keeping the crew happy while remaining unbiased. I don't remember any of your other characters but others have, so I'll put my stock in their feedback. However, the application itself is a bit odd. The main thing is their name and conflicting interests, as well as the personality. A Dionae is made of six Nymphs, each their own individual. I can understand one Nymph taking an interest in pebbles and being named "Pebbles", however this Gestalt is made of more than one individual with their own personalities and interests. This should be taken into account. Additionally, their interests is something that would be pursued. If they somehow all enjoyed pebbles, they would end up working as a miner to reflect their interest in rocks and the like, not an electrical engineer. I also notice that you describe your Dionae as a "he". The species does not actually have a gender as they're asexual, and they do not identify as any one gender- they simply exist. Another species may describe them as a "he", but even in populated space they would not pick up the mindset to assign themselves a sexual identity. Is it just you having a habit of identifying things with gender? Link to comment
LordPwner
On the gender thing, its just a thing I'm use too. Sorry about that lol. It took a second for me but I could carry the gestalt as an 'it' since yes they are asexual and grow from their yearly cycle using pods. My whole idea on the Pebbles thing was the fact that he started as one nymph... and wouldn't be that singular nymph grow the others? That is how I assumed it happened ingame so that is how I assumed the lore took it since it doesn't really covered it.. or I missed it in my readings. On the thought of being an engineer I had the whole idea that the SM in a sense is a shiny, glowing, radioactive rock. Tis a big pebble if you will. Though I'm more than happy to make him a miner because the name in my opinion is just too cute to change. Yes a 'Worker' is made of six individual diona or nymphs... though we did start with one.. which is my whole idea of why they'd all have some interest since they had the same origin... Though to be frank I might have dropped the ball wholey and I'm more than willing to correct things to aline with Lore and however you see fit! Elohi Adanvdo Edit: The whole idea of them still loving Pebbles, being named Pebbles, etc. comes from the idea of the Sage and Neophyte. As experience and knowledge trumps all in the Dionaea world. So in my mind it'd make sense for the oldest nymph to pick the name of their collective because they would be the oldest and the wisest. Of course this would not need to always be the case but you could see it being common yes? I don't want to over step or anything, just wondering on that point. Link to comment

Unfortunately, things in-game are a bit harder to align with the lore unfortunately, not to mention that an eight-hour shift is condensed into a game of three hours. In reality, it takes a bit to actually build half the things engineers do IRL kek On the thought of being an engineer I had the whole idea that the SM in a sense is a shiny, glowing, radioactive rock. Tis a big pebble if you will. Though I'm more than happy to make him a miner because the name in my opinion is just too cute to change. Though to be frank I might have dropped the ball wholey and I'm more than willing to correct things to aline with Lore and however you see fit! Each Nymph is an individual, so unless yours had one Nymph in the same area for five years, enough seeds to grow a Gestalt, the probability of their interests in the same thing and keeping the same name is pretty iffy. However, we can go off of abstracts. "River bed" can refer to a flow of power, like electricity. And of course, "pebble" can refer to the Supermatter, one of many stones that can power the much bigger rocks from a larger whole. Every name makes a story. Now, education. To be an Engineering Apprentice, they would have to be going to school for that field- ICly, it's required. So if your Diona did asexually reproduce and kept to it's growing-grounds, that would be about six years to make enough for a Gestalt and then however many years you want them to be in school for electrical engineering. That is, if you don't want them to remain an Apprentice forever, giving them perhaps a year or a few months before they finish their training and simply getting a degree. Next, these two: What do you like about this character? How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would appreciate if you could answer these in the paragraph format. Why do you like them? Do they have any quirks? Why did you give yourself that rating? Link to comment
LordPwner
I'll be replying a bit in reverse, sorry if its confusing lol its just how I do it. What do you like about this character? How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would appreciate if you could answer these in the paragraph format. Why do you like them? Do they have any quirks? Why did you give yourself that rating? 1.) What I like about this character? I have this whole plan to make them the kiddo of the station. Kinda like how Tabi is now, Just an innocent Dionae looking to get smarter and learn. I think their biggest quirk would be the fact of heavy accent in Basic "Something........ Like..... This.....". It'd also be easily distracted holding on some of the nymph qualities of observing everything about them. With that in mind they might """run""" off and go look at something during work, something just to see what is going on ya know? I also really enjoy the name. While I didn't plan that well of the name flowing with their work. That is a great way to put it! And I quite enjoy it! 2.) Why did you give yourself this rating? I give myself the rating of 6.5/10 mainly because I have alot of the basics down, I know how to RP Command Characters, Loyalty implanted, male, female, StationBounds, AI. But I'm not the greatest at them. I know I'm far from the best. I've been yelled at that Uriel was once the best Captain by a few. Though I like to believe its just him growing as a character. Now while I don't let that hammer me too hard, it shows me that I've missed something that i use to have. Also I hit the extremes of personalities or lack there of. Its challenging for me to round my characters out and it takes time as I build them. Example: Oak Evans has been a heavy force of my anger-RP. He grumbles a lot he is disappointment by /everyone/ though he is slowly growing to be more.. not a sterotype.. dynamic. While Uriel is my rounded character. He's quite dynamic. Education: Sticking with Engineering, I'd say yeah they would be working on a degree. It wouldn't really make sense the species about getting knowledge wasn't actively getting knowledge. I'd probably give him a few months away from it so I have plenty of time to get my engineering down because it has been forever since I'd been in the department official with a character. So he'd be about 7-8 years old? Diona: I'd like to not be a super snowflake because lets be honest all characters have a dash of it unless they are grey tide. Something that makes them interesting. So them all growing in the same place wouldn't be very likely? What else could there be? Other nymphs around? Biesel's Inter-Planetary Nymph Fair ? I'm just not sure how to make that part... the most believable. Though if its acceptable for one to stay near its growing grounds I could do that? Side note: So Diona can't grow other diona? Thanks for taking your time to read my app, and to add. I'm sorry for seeming quite lacking. I did get as much as I could from the Wiki and I thought the best way to ask all my questions about what needed work on was to make the app. It shows you what I know and what I need to know, etc. So once again, thank you so much! Elohi Adanvdo
Looking at all the answers, they all seem pretty acceptable. My main concern however is the behavior- they can be curious, yes. But constantly running off is grounds for no promotion or worse: firing. If I were you, I would restrict the behavior to them sitting still when they're being taught because they're absorbing information. Being distracted while doing mundane things like fixing a bulb is fine, but be prepared to suffer the consequences of their actions during emergencies. But make sure to keep with their theme: engineering and mining (their interest in pebbles can be supplemented there). From what I know your previous characters have all done well in their capacity, so I'm willing to let you give Dionae a try. If you have any questions or the like, don't be afraid to contact me. I'm sorry I let this sit as long as it did but I've been thrown a few curveballs as of late. But as compensation, I can officially welcome you to the green gang. Application Accepted. (PS- Dionae can create other Diona.) Link to comment
