[Accepted] itanimulli's Unathi Whitelist application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: itanimulli

Character Names: Sovereign Aegis, Mars hall, Kardora Ma, Mumbee Wembit, Decisive Resolve

Species you are applying to play: Unathi

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): R e d.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: No. I don't read. I just absorb. Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: This motivation is a bit different from my other app, which is being interested in a species as a whole. Now, I've found myself interested in how an individual can deviate from the norm without being outright ridiculous. Forgive me if you've heard anything that's going to be in this application before.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi imo, are in a particular predicament in this respect, because it's all about attitude and behavior. They act, as a whole, a bit more psychologically (and with a physical build so superior, rightfully so) aggressive than humans. However, they're also basically feudal japan in space except everyone is a monitor lizard. Just like one of my animes. To put this in a much more serious term: They're relatable to humans, but not exactly human. They have very strict moral codes, very strict social rules, are very very very warlike, and also give more in the way of body-language than a human. I like the way they interact with others; half the time, they're not going to be particularly petty, but challenge one's honor and reap what you sow.

Character Name: Kozmodi Guwan

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

'A black sheep. A pariah. Outcast. We use Guwan to mark those who shame us. And if my way of life is a shame, my enlightened state is what it is, I shall gladly take it. Three of my kin slaughtered. For what? A failed marriage? Could it be that sometimes, two individuals do not fit? The day my bother died was the day I became disillusioned. I'm not even sure what he did wrong, but I'll live this life in honor of him, regardless of what others may think.

I fled the moment I could. Living on Ouere could only last so long, in my eyes. We may have made progress in technology, but our minds remain gated behind religious locks. Only a few of us have chains that rust enough to break free. I am one of those. I will live in Beisel. Sol reminds me too much of Moghean clans. To many strong opinions. Become Guwandi for losing a fight? Ritualistic suicide, arranged marriages, and every religion ending in 'akh' should have been left in the dust of the human's first contact with our kind. Why must we be so backwards, when pulled so far forwards?

This angst that fuels our kind is what destroyed Da’ha’den, and left all of Moghes in such shambles. More thatn one-point-eight billion. In a planetary war. What is wrong with us? Could we not see that there was nothing to fight over, save for the ores that we could have built our species' wealth on? Save for the culture and historical records that could have been poured over by foreign scholars?

If not wishing to be subjugated by the illusion of such idiocy makes me Guwan, so be it. It is my title now, mine to interpret. I have cut ties with all of the past. I am Kozmodi Guwan, and I do not care what you think. I only care that I can.'

Dropping the pen, abruptly, Kozmodi looked upon what she'd angrily scribbled on the paper. She looked over the poems she'd composed. She would return to make more, eventually, but this apartment was getting cramped. She carefully tacked the scratchily written paper to her wall. She should make a code. Perhaps she can appeal to other Guwan? The ideals of clans should be left behind, after all. She hoisted on her coat, put on her hat, pulling it over her eyes, and prepared to move to the spaceport.

Later, on the arrivals shuttle, she found herself gazing into bluespace during the jump. How fortunate for other species to remain forward-thinking. She'd not have a job, otherwise. She fiddled momentarily with the fabric of her assistant uniform. She will have to see what her true calling is when she arrives.

What do you like about this character?

Bro this character is so original bro you don't even know bro.

More or less, I like making weird characters and forcing them to fit. This particular one would be the stereotype of a neckbeard filtered through the lense of athletic unathi. I do hope you trust me to do this right. I'm going to have her do an IC job-search, find where she feels comfortable, converse with the sheeple, and try and make everyone needlessly woke to something they don't need in their lives. I know for a fact an outspoken bad-egg exists in every society of every type save for, perhaps, Skrell, trentsDionae, and Vaurca (unless you count the liidra as a sort of evil pseudo-hippie individual), but that's just because skrell are too unified, Dionae are too....tree.....and not unified, and Vaurca exist to serve the damn hive.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like I said before, 7-or-8ish/10.

Reeeee I am the only male blue unathi on MY STATION.

No but seriously. I have seen this man roleplay. He is competent. That is fine. I've also found that a lot of Unathi apps are angsty and the characters are always so different from the normal Unathi. This not anything bad, my app was different, and almost everyone's was. But sometimes the need for a plain old Unathi is enticing. There are many guwans and special boys, but they are not special because they are common place, from what I have seen. Nevertheless, this is still a competent application. It is written nicely, and even if the backstory has been done before, that does not mean it can be done again.

Also, he bullied me when I was captain and that is the mark of a good person. I like it, and I would like to see Unathi characters from you.

Hello, I am sorry for the delay.

Now, there is a lot to unpack with applications that apply as a Guwan. You have to prove that you understand the lore enough to subvert it with such a character.

Guwans are the dirt beneath the bottom rung of the social hierarchy - they've committed something so egregious that their family has disowned them and they do not have the bravery or means to redeem themselves through single combat.

Religion pervades every element of Unathi society and personalities - has she found nothing in any of the major religions that draws her in? If you are drawn to Unathi, what about how she is subverting these tropes appeals to you?

My idea was that since her life was....decidedly regular until she up and ran off, the shadow of the past would still linger in ways that'd easily paint her as a hypocrite. She may say nothing's wrong with mechanical limbs, but you won't see her accepting them on herself. She may claim that the religious hubub around artificial intelligence is just mindless chatter, but you won't find her alone with an IPC, or taunting the acestors, or outright revoking her own beleifs.

She may have distanced herself from religion, but distance is not detachment. One does not do a complete 180 in the span of a second. This is more like a.....120.

This probably isn't anything to really consider, but I like to have my whitelist have some strange thing about them, and then make a more traditional character later.
