Jamini Tajaran Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Jamini

Character Names: Edwin Atweeke (Scientist), Blake Matthews (Medical)

How long have you been playing on Aurora: A few days, which I'm fully aware will be a major sticking point for some people.

Species you are applying to play: Tajaran

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Silver (192,192,192) - Striped

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Of course. I'm glad Sue actually made their lore closer to how people play them, as opposed to trying to force hats onto an entire species. You have much, much more interesting and diverse lore here than elsewhere.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've played Tajara for well over two years on other prominent RP servers, in particular Bay12. In light of recent changes and decisions by the administration there I've left the server. I would simply like to keep playing my primary character here. It would not be difficult at all to keep him in-line with your lore. He is well-known enough that I've even been told that one of your characters here was mistaken for him on more than one occasion. I not only started playing Tajara directly alongside your current lore maintainer, but have worked with her on writing lore in the past (though naturally, not for Aurora)

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Tajara have mrrrowling, rrolling accents and are significantly more cliquish and private than most humans. They primarily use third person when referring to oneself, speaking in first person to another is a sign of extreme trust (generally only reserved for direct family members). As a general rule they are somewhat more shy and have poorer educations than other station species. City Tajara have more access to advanced technology than those outside of cities, due to corporate involvement. Tajara have a rich history of cultural and artistic achievements, and heavily prize music in particular. They are cold-adapated, and overheat quickly. They have digitigrade feet and claws on both hands and feet, which require special equipment to accommodate. Tajara have extremely expressive body-language, which plays an important role in their native dialect.

Why does this species in particular hold your interest?

I've played as a Tajara for some time, and It has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had the honor of having in SS13. Despite the protests by certain players regarding how they are played, I personally find them to be a species that is relatable enough to understand and play well while still remaining different enough to be interesting. I had not initially created Khayyam to be a permanent or primary character. After two years, I do not regret continuing to play as him.

Character Name: Nasir Khayyam

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

(I need a little over three)

Born to Rashad Khayyam and Na'ima Khayyam-Hadii, Nasir is the product of an arrange marriage between the rebel leadership and the remaining Tajaran nobility still in power, primarily as a ploy by the Hadii to cement their status and influence in the post-revolution Ahdomai. From a young age he was explicitly groomed for a political career, and given the best education that his parents could afford. Unfortunately, as time progressed he proved to have little to no talant law and politics and repeatedly failed out of several secondary schools in rapid succession. In a fit of desperation, and under threat of censure by the Hadii side of his family, he was ordered to pick and complete a degree. He chose the furthest school he could from Ahdomai that would accept a Tajaran, Hadar Technical Institute.

Nasir did not do well when starting school. His common was distressingly sub-par, even for a Tajaran, and there were no other Tajaran at the institute to help him along. Instead he was befriended by a Xeno-friendly human partway through his first year. They quickly became friends and roomates, and much later romantically involved. With the help of his human friend Nasir successfully was able to successfully, if barely, pass his classes at Hadar. As the years passed, it became increasingly apparent that his relationship with his roomate was a one-sided affair. When Nasir attempted to take an internship with Nanotrasen for graduation credit his roomate quite literally tied him down and forced themselves on Nasir in an attempt to prevent them from leaving. The culprit was quickly discovered, arrested, and charged with sexual assault and kidnapping. The assault and betrayal of trust drove Nasir to near-suicide on multiple occasions.

During his internship, and later employment with Nanotrasen Nasir fared admirably despite his mental health problems. His linguistic skills have improved greatly, though his accent remains exceedingly heavy, and he proved to be a competent structural and electrical engineer on-board the NSS-Lumen, and later branched into atmospherics and engine construction and operation. Due to crew shortages in the engineering department on said station, he was promoted to acting chief engineer several times in his stint there, and eventually given provisional CE status. During his years with Nanotrasen he has shown exemplary loyalty to the corporation, and an utter determination to get things done even at cost of his own life and limb. He has been an active participant and planner for the construction of two small Nanotrasen-affiliated stations and one ship during his tenure.

Approximately three months ago, the NSS-Lumen was scuttled in an emergency procedure. As the CE on duty at the time, he has been placed under a temporary suspension from command, pending investigation, and reassigned to the NSS-Aurora.

What do you like about this character?

Despite his wealthy upbringing, Nasir is humble. He doesn't like power or wealth. His accomplishments have been entirely on his own merit.

Nasir is a valid target for a large number of groups, including other Tajaran. Xenophobic humans, Human supremacists, and Anti-Hadii/Njarir Tajaran all have valid reason to wish him dead, deposed, or captured. There is likely a bounty or two on his head for both live capture as well as assassination.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Rating ones own role-playing ability is extremely difficult. I will say that I make every effort to roleplay out my actions, even trivial ones, unless the situation calls for a fast response (such as a critical patient, or an engine overload/release). I enjoy playing characters of a vast array of competency and backgrounds, though when push comes to shove I will forgoe roleplay occasionally to ensure that another player can remain in the round/have fun.

Notes:

Nasir is a 50% M'sai and 50% Njarir’Akhran. He inherited his coloration from his father, and his fur pattern from his mother.

Nasir is an old chief engineer character of mine, quite literally the last Tajaran head of staff on B12. That said, pending head of staff whitelisting he will remain on suspension.

Nasir has historically owned a shuttle of his own construction, but that isn't necessary to have for here.
