EngineersDream
BYOND Key: EngineersDream Character Names: Noise of a Dying Planet, Kira Lord, Nicole Wright, Infinite Marble Palace, Affinity (2.0) Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: It's a robot boi Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had a thing for AI and cyborgs. Been playing a lot of AI and cyborgs for a while and IPCs seem like a natural evolution of what I like about those roles, though, of course, I will never give up my baby Affinity. Furthermore, having played a lot of roboticist, both as Noise and Lord, IPCs were usually the most entertaining elements of the job, often willing to engage in some deeper roleplay that what I'm used to with Cyborgs and the like. In conclusion: They look cool, they have interesting RP-hooks and fit into my preferences of non-human characters. Also: Robots are really cool. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I could, of course, list off all the mechanical differences, but I don't think that's the point. They're not organic, and as such have a different view on self-preservation, individuality, social life and life in general. Furthermore, they can hold a different social standing to most organic species, being specifically owned by somebody or something. Interesting stuff, ready to be explored further. Character Name: OP-217 Please provide a short backstory for this character: (Okay, so I had a bit of trouble with this, and decided to abandon the usual way these backstories are told. I hope this works regardless.) COLLECTED RECORDS IPC-ID: OP-217 OFFICE IPCS INC. Seems to have a weakness regarding logical paradoxes and other things one might see in a made-for-TV-film level AI. Requesting maintenance. NANOTRASEN INTERNAL REVIEW IPC-ID: OP-217 CHASSIS TYPE: Shell, humanoid INSPECTOR: Dr. Noise of a Dying Planet STATUS: Granted NOTES: We’ve been informed that the unit is meant to be mentally limited. In light of that knowledge, we grant clearance, though the particular choice of positronic processor seems overkill for the models capabilities. Maybe the contractor is just bad at part sourcing. Unit OP-217 is cleared for clerical and assistance work. REPORT CLOSED SIGNED: Alice What do you like about this character? They are firmly owned by NanoTrasen and are a rather limited implementation of an IPC, mostly designed for clerical work. I like playing with limitations and I like the idea of exploring a somewhat mundane character concept, a character literally designed to do the most dull and mind-numbing work on station. Notes: Have a nice day Edit: Fixed a missing word in the title. Edited December 5, 2019 by EngineersDream Link to comment
KingOfThePing
Engineer knows how to play whitelisted species, clearly. Noise was and is a great Roboticist, now RD. Their Diona psychologist was also a very neat character that was played in a great way. Both are interesting, and thought out characters. The approach of writing the backstory of this character is unusual but, personally, I like it. It's not the same concept done and done and done over and over again. The delivery is...causal, cool and something fresh. It might not show directly lore knowledge, but it shows that Engineer puts thought not only into the character, but also the delivery, if you know what I mean. Easy +1. I am absolutely positive that they will uphold the standards of what is expected of IPC whitelist holders, you'll see. A great player and a great person itself. niennab
Which chassis is OP-217 and what role do you intend to have them go into, come playing them? Link to comment
EngineersDream
Oh yeah, I should have put that in there. Whoops. It'll be a shell and work assistance, specializing in clerical work. It's almost literally an "office drone". I edited that into the original post to avoid confusion for future people reading it. Link to comment
niennab
And the role? What job will they be going into? Assistant? Link to comment
EngineersDream
Yes, it would be an assistant. Link to comment
niennab
The backstory is fairly simple but I appreciated the creative delivery. Accepted! Link to comment
