Goret Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Psionics were introduced by Matt, and we decided to run an event to try it out. Although, we wanted EVERYONE to have fun with them so we gave them to everyone that were near an intercom or a headset (and the people that did not wanted it, just had to not stand any audio devices). It was a HUGE mess and alot of people participated to it. I never someone inactive or not interacting with someone else. Here is a few questions Matt wanted to be answered, so if you could follow them: If you were a psyker, what do you think about your faculties? Did they need extra powers? How useful were your powers? Did you think any power needs a buff or nerf? If you encountered any bugs, what were they? Thank you! Quote
RadiantRose Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 (edited) That was really fun! I absolutely loved the variety of powers available, and while some of them did feel unbalanced, the potential they bring both for RP and mechanics is great. The only concern I'd have is that the system is clunky and prone to misclicks, and requires a lot of intention-switching. But it sort of makes sense lore-wise; mind powers would be all about setting an intention, so being awkward to use and prone to misfiring if you're not paying attention would make a lot of sense. EDIT: A few things I didn't mention, since I didn't realize everyone had different powers. -The mental laser kills cows. It also sounds like a stun but calls itself a laser, so I wasn't really sure if it was lethal or non-lethal? -The Commune ability was great for roleplay. -I don't remember what it was called, but there was a spell that mended mental injuries. I didn't try to use it, but wouldn't that be related to the now-removed trauma system? -The ability people had where they throw their head back and scream had a really cool description, but I have no idea what it actually did. ToasterStrudel Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 One of my abilities as an IPC was the ability to cause an EMP on my tile and the tiles around me 10/10 As for bugs, some of the activations are a bit wonky, like having the ability to make a shock on anything by clicking it with harm. Maybe changing up what activates them would make it a bit more user friendly. Quote
aleksix Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Human psionic, 2 powers - skinsight and mend. The psionic interface is nice, even though the parts about different skill levels are confusing. They make it look like there's training and progression, but we were told there's none. The mend description is a bit confusing - the description is about healing maladies, such as broken bones and bleeding. Didn't make it clear it only heals internal damage and removes implants. Also, It might not be strong enough to deal with people standing with broken legs/feet. It was rather hard to catch in the chaos, but I'm somewhat sure the mending healed the foot bone then the foot got instantly broken again. Also, mend reportedly works on IPCs, not sure if intended? Skinsight sounds a bit pointless for antags. Most antags operate alone, so having a health scanner that works on grabbing doesn't sound all that useful. Could be useful for staff, but that puts skrell doctors in a weird situation with a lot of harassment accusations. Testing them during a chaotic event sounded like a bad idea, though. Activating abilities during a mess like that is juggling, but it would probably be easier for normal antags, which ties nicely into the theme of concentration. Quote
Uaine Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 I found the event to be very enjoyable on my side of things. I got some really awesome RP and the combat was sort of light, which is pretty good. I know it wasn't the same for everybody, but I can only speak for myself. I do think it was a bit confusing in some parts, especially once the scream or whatever happened. I believe it worked in favor of the event in the end though. As for the Psionic abilities themselves... I can't really say much about them. I had the psiblade, which seems to be pretty cool. I can see the advantage of having a concealed weapon on yourself that no one can take away from you. The rest of the Psi system also looks really cool, even if I didn't understand any of it to be quite honest! Something about different levels of capabilities? Not sure. All in all, pretty solid event! Enjoyed it quite a bit and I'd like to see more like this one! Especially if it helps our Dev team nail down new features! Quote
