Arcticil Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 BYOND key: Arcticil Character names: William Conrad How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A few games on and off, but I'm looking to commit myself as of recent. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'm interested in playing head roles, as I enjoy the challenge in them, and I find it to be a fun position to role-play if managed right. Why did you come to Aurora?: For role-play, of course! The idea of role-play has appealed me for a long time, and I've been role-playing since around 2008. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. I've also played some before, and my favorite is head of security, although I enjoy Captain as well. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-play is playing something that you are not or unable to do, whether it be a character or a world. It's like taking the role of something and playing it as if they were the ones controlling it, not you. Role-play is meant to be immersive as well, to the point where people playing said characters feel /apart/ of the world, which is what I hope to feel here. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To run the little sector that they're named after, such as security or the the chief of medical dealing with medical doings. They're supposed to makes sure things are going right, and to handle their own sectors through a chain of command. This allows a fluent and good system to run the entire station as if it was a real station. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To act as if they were a mentor or a role-model, and to be on their behavior and do their best as their character and OOCly. Nobody likes a server full of jerks, so if white-listed people are kind and efficient with their role-playing, people will find it to be a nice and clean server. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: William Conrad Character age: 54 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born in the system of Telos, one of Earth's outlying sectors under the control of the Sol Alliance, he was born to fairly affluent parents that were definitely not rich, but not poor or situated in the slums where many could find themselves, by misfortune or by being born into it. Struggling with his education, he barely managed to pass his final years of schooling before being dropped into the real-world, where he quickly found himself with out a sense of direction. A mandatory one year conscription service led him to being put into service, trained, and given the basics before finding that he fairly enjoyed himself, taking on a further term after the conscription service was up. Working hard as a soldier for Telos, he found himself mostly on patrol duty on nearby colonies in the small little system of Telos. The sense of patriotism he felt was enjoyable, but he eventually cured his longing for something more with an officer opprotunity program. Enrolling, he managed to gain some recommendations and got a trial at it, doing his best to keep his academics up before finally being enlisted after passing his trial. He faced four years of intensive training, much in leadership and a bit in the new technologies of soldiering and just general soldiering. Passing eventually and finding himself out of the academy, he worked hard to do well in his new found position of a commisioned officer. Eventually he lost his left hand in a training accident due to mishandling of explosives by a fellow soldier, insurance covering a prosthetic that he despised but eventually grew to deal with. Dutifully working for many years, he eventually found his way aboard a station to take on a role in defending plasma, as requested by Nanotransen officials. What do you like about this character?: Age gives a new perspective, one that is different and more sage-like than a younger character. His ability to lead, as I really like leadership, but yet his flaws of knowing little to none about medicine or engineering leaves him as mostly a 'grunt' in a sense, beyond his command. It's limiting, yet enjoyable. What do you dislike about this character?: Age could also be an issue depending on physical things, and his non-clever intelligence to balance out his fair leadership and security skills, including hand-to-hand and fire-arm skills. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes. An academy for leadership and experience in being a commisioned officer would most likely be useful to a head of staff, if it isn't medical or engineering, but rather second in command, captain, or head of security. Why?: Past experience and age provide a good reason for why he would be fit for commanding roles. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I'd like to say it's fairly good, so maybe a six or seven out of ten? Extra notes: Nothing I can think of, beyond that I live in Kansas.
