Cottie_Moe
BYOND Key: Redcell121 Character Names: Rayner Aoede Species you are applying to play: Skrell Species you are applying to play: A dark blueish color or maybe even a dark purple. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always liked playing as Skrells outside of Aurora for no real reason other than I like them. I think their design is cool too. But after reading the lore page for the Skrell it only made me appreciate them more, I just love how in depth it is and in this iteration of the Skrell they have some telepathic/psionic capabilities now which only makes them more intriguing to me. Personally, being able to play as a Skrell would make the roleplaying experience a lot more exciting for me and that paired with having these psionic abilities would make things a little more exciting for myself and those I happen to roleplay with in the future. I have a lot of ideas for how one could be played as. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I would go for the most obvious answer and say their psionic abilities. But telepathic abilities aside, I'd say their outlook on life is something that separates them from role-playing as a Human seeing as they have pretty long lifespans, the fact that they are hermaphrodites could be something to take into account as well. The way they express themselves to others in comparison to Humans I think is something to be of note too and their typical view on the world around them. On top of all this I think the Skrell culture is what would really separate role-playing as the two species. Depending on whether you were playing a Skrell born on Qerrbalak you'd find yourself experiencing a sort of shellshock upon arriving on the station compared to a Human, perhaps. Character Name: Volxrim Nu Volxrim Nu is born on Qerrbalak to a family of four, consisting of both his parents and two of his kin in the year 2422. No one within his family has garnered very high credibility within their society in the many years they've been alive so Volxrim Nu was birthed with the intention of breaking this family curse bestowed upon them. From a very young age this idea of success was deeply ingrained into the tadpole's head and was held to a very high standard by his kin. This somewhat strained the relationship between himself and his parents as he grew, he realized he didn't want the stress that came with the responsibility placed upon him...While the relationship with his siblings was almost non-existent as by the time he was born they were old enough to continue life on their own and they weren't very involved in his life, with him only seeing them a few times in his entire life but not enough to form any strong bonds. For a majority of Volxrim's life he tried improving his standing in society by pursuing a career in robotics as well as trying to help improve the social credibility of his family as well. His career would truly begin with him enrolling into The Grand University well into his adulthood which also garnered him some praise as his family was somewhat infamous for being less than average people who didn't achieve much. While enrolled Volxrim was first introduced to ideas of religion by a friend who he had formed a bond with through the dream inadvertantly, but he would be told in more detail of Qeblak which peaked his interest in the stars as well as his psionic abilities. His teacher from when he was a tadpole mentioned it to him a few times but he never gave it much thought and his parents weren't very religious either. They didn't even allow him to use his psionic abilities around them as they believed it to be a bad influence despite his potential for it. But as he grew Volxrim didn't allow the ideas of religion to get through to him too much as he felt it would be side stepping his main focus. After some time, Volxrim had achieved the knowledge necessary to pursue a career in robotics and graduated from the Grand University with some hiccups here and there and much to his own surprise. The experience was challenging yet still he succeeded and was praised for it which boosted the Skrell's ego to a point where he believed it was nothing but smooth sailing from then on out. And for a time his name could even be viewed on the public displays ranking somewhat below some other notable figures with good social credibility. Seeing how high he had gotten only made him afraid to lose his high ranking, so from then he would do many things to ensure it stayed where it was or only climb higher like cutting off friends who didn't help further his goals, or those he deemed weren't as good as him which eventually left him with no friends at all...No real friends, anyways. Only those who had the same mindset as Volxrim himself. Eventually, the task of improving his family's social credibility would become too much for the young overachiever when they failed to take the necessary steps to help themselves. He would begin to be viewed in a negative light by those who believed he would be better off without his kin holding him back and this would eventually lead to the Skrell bending to the pressure of his peers and cutting ties with them in order to maintain his status. Though he still cared deeply for them the societal pressures was simply too much for him to deal with. Cutting his family off seemed to be the final straw for the Skrell as he begun to feel a sadness like no other, he was hit with the epiphany that he now had no one which he blamed the Federation for making him and the people around him the way that they are now. After years of pursuing a career in robotics, researching ways to improve machines, and rebuild their reputation with the elders of Qerrbalak it would all be for nothing. Soon, the peers that held him at such high regard started to view him as a brown-dwarf as he'd been working in the field of robotics for nearly three decades and failed to meet his goal of repopularizing synthetics with the elders which lowered his ranking significantly... Volxrim Nu would start to feel extremely distressed when his entire world seemed to turn on him which made him recoil from most Skrells out of fear of their judgement until he fled the planet to seek new endeavors before his credibility was completely tarnished with a burning hatred for the Federation that molded him, his parents, and many others into creatures that were so dependent on what others thought of them. What do you like about this character? I like that this character is a failure of sorts. He somewhat lives up to the standard his family held for him by gaining some popularity on Qerrbalak but he essentially ends up losing it all and fleeing the planet in hopes of one day returning, like an outcast. How would you rate your role-playing ability? If I had to rate my role-playing ability on a scale from one to ten I would rate it at an eight. Mainly because it's easy for me to get caught up in the mechanics of the game. Edited August 1, 2021 by Cottie_Moe Changes to expand character Link to comment
Caelphon
Hi there, thanks for applying. One issue, Skrell age slower than humans, so therefore are only declared an "adult" at 30. Your Skrell is 24, which leaves a gap of about 6 years (nevermind the education needed for robotics). I'd put your Skrell at a young age of about 49/50/51. A degree in the Jargon Federation is a mandatory ten years, and most Skrell complete 2-3 (so about 20 - 30 years after turning 30). Quote 1. What faith does your Skrell follow? How does this impact their personality? 2. You don't really mention relationships of any sorts, besides kin. Do you mind expanding on it? Familial and non-Familial Relationships! 3. How does your Skrell feel about the Jargon Federation? Do they have any hatred towards it? Are they loyal to the Jargon Federation? 4. How has being ridiculed for their actions changed them? Specifically going into the robotics sector. Link to comment

Caelphon
You've provided good answers, very well constructed as well. I'll leave this up for one more day to gather feedback, before closing. Link to comment
