venum - IPC application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: venum

Character Names: Zoey Bould, Elmedina Kimura

Species you are applying to play: IPC

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I believe this whitelist would add a lot of options to my character choices, given the amount of types of IPCs that can be played on the station. The ongoing struggle of more or less sentient robots is a classic them that would be fun to play with.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

IPCs are mechanical, most of them stand out when compared to humans. In general their conversational skills aren't as fluid, their "emotions" are simulated. A large amount of IPCs are owned by other individuals or organisations and their lack of freedom is a point of contention. While they have a sense of self-preservation, they can continue to function after receiving injuries, expensive injuries, that could be fatal for a human. All IPCs have a purpose that they are built for, this impacts every aspect of them, even if they have long-since stopped performing their intended functions.

Character Name: Hina

Produced as HPS-3022 and renamed during sales, Hina was originally owned by a fairly wealthy family from Mendell for the purpose of general housekeeper and caretaking. During the year after Hina's purchase a fatal accident involving the oldest child followed by the cost of several failed cloning procedures forced the household to sell their IPC. Given their good condition and skillset Hina was acquired by Idris Incorporated for significantly less than their retail price. Hina now works in services, providing catering for staff and providing passive advertisement for some Idris brands.

As a synthetic, Hina is intrigued by organic life and the consistent lack of sense it presents. They are drawn to the idea of freedom but understand how distant and unlikely such an idea is. Ultimately Hina more or less accepts that being owned has almost as many benefits as drawbacks though the curiosity of completely independent choice is ever-present. She misses her old owners or at least simulates it.

What do you like about this character?

I like the idea of a synthetic that has tasted a better (but not perfect) life and through unfortunate circumstances has ended up in a position where they are much more readily exploited. I also wanted to play a shell...

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Something like a 5/10 maybe. I've somehow survived on high-RP servers for a long time though. I think alien race constraints help.

Hi, thank you for applying.

The application is a bit short, and there's parts that could use more expansion, like their treatment, place in society, and interactions with others. Hina's backstory is also a bit shorter than what's expected of an IPC that has essentially lived with humans, and doesn't say much about their personality or what they're like. It also doesn't mention how they ended up on the Aurora and what they actually work in.

I recommend playing a bit more on the server and engaging with the community to get more accustomed, returning when you are more experienced with a more solid and expanded application.
