Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I'm applying to play an IPC because I'd like to try different RP. Many of the IPCs I've met ic are unique and fun characters. I have a lot of interest in the unique roleplaying IPCs offer because of the position they hold in lore, and I think it can make for interesting allegory and interactions. Also I just really like robots, sue me.

 

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Beyond mechanical differences, the unique sentience IPCs possess gives rise to several distinct traits. IPCs lack proper emotions and, depending on the model and it's background, may have no individuality whatsoever. IPCs are however able to form opinions and friendships based purely off their experiences and robotic worldview. Within Biesel law, IPCs have somewhat limited rights, limited even further by laws relating to ownership and owners themselves. Owned IPCs are considered property and are legally considered objects, and are treated as such by both the law and many around them. Regardless of make, model, and experience, every IPC has an inherent drive for self preservation. 

 

Character Name: AMU5

Autonomous Maintenance Unit 05 is old by IPC standards, being one of a large number of baseline frames purchased by NT in 2419 to autonomously perform repair duties on NT vessels and installations. Since it's activation however, AMU5 has become somewhat of an expert on NanoTrasen's equipment, and a rather determined supporter of the company. AMU5 began it's work orbiting Earth, maintaining corporate installations high above the surface, often in excessively hazardous conditions. In 2424, NanoTrasen's ever expanding system of outposts in the Romanovich Cloud led to the transfer of AMU5 permanently into Tau Ceti space. An untold number of stations and super carriers have seen AMU5 come and go over the years, each left a just little more finely tuned than it was found. The robot has been given multiple awards for it's service to the company, including a 40 year service award, and two commendations of bravery from 2435 and 2462. 

Due to it's long life and treatment throughout, AMU5 has maintained a consistently robotic demeanor of speech and movement. These traits serve to both maximize efficiency, and to loosely conceal the unique personality 44 years of work below decks has cultivated. AMU5 often speaks in questions, a behavior formed unintentionally by it's early mentors, either as a form of letting others reach their own conclusions, or as sarcasm. The robot makes great effort to never outright insult anyone, resulting in backhanded compliments and patronizing questions, a result of long years tip-toeing around it's flesh and blood masters.

Quickly coming up on 50 years of service, a wise and deceptively robotic AMU5 continues it's work anywhere the company sends it.

What do you like about this character?

I like the concept of an IPC who has chosen to continue working for it's owners instead of striving for freedom. There's similarities to be drawn with Stephen from Django Unchained, as a character who perpetuates the system responsible for their oppression by accepting their place as a slave. Apart from the allegory, I also like the stereotype of old wise men giving backhanded compliments to people, and think a 44 year old IPC would be the perfect direction for such a character. 

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

I have and will continue to die IC for roleplay. If only I was better than just average at it.

 

Notes: I feel like this character might work better as a CE but I'll address that when I feel like applying for the whitelist.

The backstory is a bit too short, especially for a 50 year old IPC. The application process requires two paragraphs, and I'd like to know about its experiences, how it's treated, how it views the world and its other character traits.

I absolutely adore Zoey Smirnov, so I may or not be a tad bit biased, however, I adore Zoey because they are incredibly well constructed as a character, and the roleplay is always fresh and enjoyable, +1

Even with the changes, this doesn't read like a complete character story. I think it would be better if you came up with a new idea for a character, something with more flavour than an IPC who just does what they've been built for for 50 years. For now, I'll deny this application.
