RoosterCult
BYOND Key: Roostercult Character Names: Billi Sadar Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: gonna go for a bishop frame Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yup! And more because an NPC is a different alien race Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Robots, IPCs, AIs have always been a bit of a hyperfixation of mine. I find them to be the perfect allegory for a fair few learning or social disorders, especially autism which I have IRL. I've always connected to robots in fiction, how they see the world, how they learn, the struggles they face upon trying to understand little things, like jokes, metaphors, facial expressions, and basic social awareness. It's all something I've struggled to overcome as a person, and being able to play that is really fulfilling. A robot trying to learn, to be more organic, to understand. It's just a wonderful underdog/fish out of water story that I never get tired of telling, because everyone handles being the odd one out in a different way. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Humans have a few very basic traits. They had parents, they were taught, grew up, chose their life in some aspect or another. Everything a human knows, they most likely know from decades of learning, starting of as a tiny spongie baby. A robot is different, they don't grow, they aren't going to go to highschool, or college. They don't have parents or a family. Or, if they do, that comes with a lot of questions that a human wouldn't have to account for. They start off with this basic idea of the world, fully formed, fully thinking, and that's Wild. That's something you can't roleplay as a human, even a human with amnesia may still have muscle memories or some sort of past. Also the idea of ownership is a really fun avenue to explore. As a human you probably wont be treated as a literal object, with as much value as an expensive wrench, but in game you may be. As an IPC your life is dictated by contracts, ownership, being traded and used like a tool, then possibly discarded for no reason at all. And all that is legal and culturally accepted. The innate fear and understanding of what you are legally contrasted by what you are as a sentient person is a really good but tragic plot point that you don't get as a normal human. Character Name: Melody (full name is Sings a Melody to an Ancient Forest, but it has been shortened for legal documentation) Please provide a short backstory for this character: Melody's story begins with a well off echion colossus dionae named To Live Within The Radiant Light of the Ever-glowing Spark. This dionae lives in a large ship all to itself, powered by a supermater crystal. They would break off from anywhere between 50-200 different gestalts in order to maintain the ship and take on jobs to maintain funding (such jobs including any biological sciences, engineering, and robotics). this ended when one of the gestalts (the brave side) ended up dying. To Live Within The Radiant Light of the Ever-glowing Spark vowed off ever letting itself split again, but the hole left by the death, and the slow degrading of the ship without maintenance ended up being too much to handle. At this time To Live Within The Radiant Light of the Ever-glowing Spark bought three IPCs, The first of which is Tends to The Radiant Spark, a Xion industry IPC made with engineering knowledge, Cares For our Metal Kin, a standard shell frame programed with robotic knowledge, and Sings a Melody to an Ancient Forest, A bishop frame IPC with basic Botanical knowledge and a bit more companion software than a standard industrial IPC. (These three are called Spark, Kin, and Melody legally. Their full names being more of a "within the family thing" [P.S. I'm only playing Melody]). While their initial function was just to tend to ship, eachother, and the large dionae; the nature of the social dionae soon caused it to start treating the three IPCs as companions, mentoring them further in their fields and others, debating with them, and soon, expanding on the pursuit of knowledge. Discussions amongst them went from a student teacher, to hypotheticals on future technology, to excitedly discussing the real future practical applications of all their combined knowledges and fields. What was once an owner and its three metal slaves turned into a researcher leading its team of scientists. Their big plan? to develop a fully organic living machine, especially one that, in its biological systems to maintain life would be able to replicate the functions of a well maintained station. But with their current state of knowledge, they would never be able to reach this goal. And so the three IPCs were employed amongst several different stations, with the intent of furthering their current knowledge and looking into anything that can help with their research goal. Melody, the IPC I'm playing, would be stationed as a botanist with a slight interest in learning/being mentored further biological sciences. To expand on their internal relation of the IPC siblings and their owner, they have a strong connection to eachother and to To Live Within The Radiant Light of the Ever-glowing Spark, who always treated them as equal and valued companions. Due to being under a dionae's care for most of their lives, the IPCs have adopted a few dionae traits, especially with a learned conditional pascifism What do you like about this character? first off I love the combination of robots and nature. It's a strange clash of opposing forces that has the wonderful chance to work out just right! I've also always loved the botany department. Growing plants is fairly low stress, with the ability to often grow things such as wood or grass in order to make a nice looking place, or working with a chef in order to make the perfect restaurant is super fun and provides a lot of opportunity to roleplay instead of getting caught up in the work that you have to do. Melody themself is going to allow me to play botany solely, as well has having a lot of quirks that I think will be a blast to play out. Have lived with a dionae and 2 other IPCs their entire life, they wouldn't have a lot of social awareness that the main person, or even IPC might have. Why should they understand nonverbal communication, such as hand movements or expressions? Metaphors, jokes, similes? all fully foreign. The idea of privacy and personal space? back home the walls are made of their owner, they've never had privacy. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've personally been roleplaying over forums for about a decade now, creating characters for as long as I can remember, and playing ss13 for about 2-3 years! So I would say I'm well experienced in roleplaying and my ability, is likewise, pretty good. Notes: you have no clue how many times I wanted to answer "why do you want to be this alien character" with "he he funny robot man go clink clink clank :)" Edited June 29, 2022 by The lancer Link to comment
The lancer
Hi, thanks for applying. The application's backstory is cetainly different than usual, however a case of an IPC being bought by and living with a diona running its own ship would be very rare. I would like to see the human-IPC interaction being explored a bit more, and how an IPC character's treatment by them affects their thinking and personality. I'm also not an expert on dionae, but I think the story about one running its own ship alone and splitting up to 200 gestalts to get full on jobs in various research fields is unlikely and not in full compliance with our lore. In the end, I would suggest you make a new background for the application, where the IPC is brought up in a more average, human dominated environment like the vast majority of them are. RoosterCult
Thank you for the response, though I am Super bummed about it, I understand. I'll try to come up with a new character. Link to comment
