Bear Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 (edited) BYOND Key: abigbear (A_Big_Bear) Character Names: I remain close to 30/30, but some recent ones include: Mikolaj Tamlarfaiiq, Ra'Akaix'Yinzi C'thur, Assoesse Onossa'i, Rajjurl Al-Thaalzir, Ebele Mambwe, and Joliba Kasongo Species you are applying to play: Skrell (Ratajani), Axiori What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Purple Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: It took me a while, but yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Skrell offer a unique style of xeno play in comparison to the rest of the other WL species. From the psionic influence to a hyper advanced totalitarian state struggling between control and utilitarianism at any cost is incredibly fascinating to me. I have watched many skrell reworks over the years, but I have sat one particular concept throughout this entire time that I hope others will find engaging. It will not be my usual style of loud character, but I am hoping it can be an impactful one for unique experiences. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell are an amphibious and cold-blooded race that appear incredibly different from humans. With short and diminutive statures to potentially almost see through skin and black void filled eyes, it can paint a strikingly different picture. But the physiological differences really only scratch the surface of the differences, instead, they truly shine on the differences within. A powerful psionic race with lifespans spanning centuries, their entire perception of time and scope of planning is inanely different in it's own. Connected together in planetary wake bubbles within the Nlom as well as planetary dream bubbles within the Srom, they find themselves ever present in one another which is incredibly unique to me, Character Name: Yeshuiin Jroboq-Ormishi Please provide a short backstory for this character (Approximately two paragraphs) The year was 2207, in the city of Qerr'wesi when Yeshuiin was born from an Axiorii Quya of lower secondary citizens in the Nralakk Federation. Yeshuiin, would not come to know them well however, as their troubled status teetering above the threshold of a tertiary social credit score saw the psionically slightly gifted child relocated, to a home of high secondary citizens unable to produce on their own. A receiver, in nature, Yeshuiin would find themselves always bordering the risk of becoming an oversleeper and would struggle for a time to find the right set of motivations and healthy lifestyles to overcome this as a young Skrell, to ensure they grew into a fully functioning member of society. As the years progressed, Yeshuiin's Quya would place heavy emphasis on academics, especially as Qeblak practitioners. These beliefs would have a profound impact on Yeshuin and so education and higher learning served to be the cornerstones of their life. As an empathetic individual, Yeshuiin would find themselves drawn to the appeal of healthcare and medicine perhaps in part to the guidance of modules and education during their time in Untuk'mak. At the age of 53, Yeshuiin began their first degree in biology at their Uyi’vesi, taking approximately nine years to complete it, before turning to specialize further with their next degrees in Medicine and then finally, Psychiatry as their qu'vesi. Something which became their true passion. Now in their early eighties, with the world at their fingertips, Yeshuiin began their work as a licensed practitioner for Ziip’Ta Medicinal, and continued so for over a century as they built their status, met a Qu'Poxii named Ormishi. A friend, a rival, and eventually a lover they grew together and formed a Quya of their own. During this time, Yeshuiin was able to produce one viable egg as the F'ex'Qa for their Quya, from which a child Ylana, rose. There was a deep-rooted joy for Yeshuiin in this time of their life, as their Quya grew and shifted over the years, and their child was raised and given to the Nralakk system to which they followed the path carefully constructed for them, and Yeshuiin took great in being their offsprings Qraa'Myaq, while Ormishi dedicated themselves to being Ylana's Qrri'Myaq. The stars, however, do not hold still and as their child rose through depth colleges on their own and moved to set out to find their own path in the stars Yeshuiin's quya also changed with it. Much had changed over the years, as Humanity was finally contacted along with the Diona, and the Vaurca came to be leading some to even join their Federation. As an empathetic individual by nature, Symbiosism was a natural school of thought for Yeshuiin. Pitying those who left or disfavoured the Federation, they looked to the government in hopes that resolution could be found in the coming decades to welcome all Skrell back within the folds of the Nralakk where they truly belonged. This would take time however, and keen interest was given instead to the many species becoming known across the Spur often expanding on their own knowledge and the knowledge by participating in some of the delicate research of their biology and psyche. Specifically focusing on the non-psionic species and their interaction with the Srom, Yeshuiin focused much of their advance treatment research on sessions to consenting volunteers. This of course, was dangerous and not without setbacks and unintentional injuries and thus was only a small portion of their practice over the decades. Applying to Zeng-Hu in the year 2460 at the behest of their Qu'Poxii, Yeshuiin found themselves unsurprisingly now in the service of Zeng-Hu. Ormisi had expressed interest in Europa from the start of it's discovery, and Yeshuiin's work with the new fledgling entities had served as stepping stool to move into this new and exciting world. Their Social Credit Score had never been higher, with a rating of 6.41, and their hopes were rather high for this new endeavour. Staying within Korormansk Station, personally, Yeshuiin began their work of examining and treating patients who had been exposed to the harsh conditions of Europa and had been taxed by it's effects. Yeshuiin, however, was not prepared for Ormishi to become one of the many who had become afflicted with Europan Sea-Blindness. Its onset was sudden, after Ormishi's vessel had dived too deep and encountered rather aggressive fauna causing severe dementia to the point their health deteriorated despite the best care available only four years later. Emotionally taxed from the demise of someone so close to them, and unable to continue their work on Europa, Yeshuiin debated returning to Nralakk having never felt so alone in over a century. The thought, however, was too much to bear and they were not ready to return home. They wondered if this was how the many skrell born outside of the Federation felt, or those who had voluntarily left it behind. A concept they found alarming and likely unhealthy to collective whole. Recent events in the former Sol territories only served to cause grief further, and Yeshuiin wondered how the many skrell that had been slaughtered by warlording fleets, or found themselves in the unfortunate crosshairs of warring aggression of pirates across the spur faired in such conditions, finding better understanding to the Isolationists who wished to withdraw from the greater spur. But they knew this was not the path they should take, and that death was not the end. For followers of the Qeblak knew they would all return to the cosmos and meet once again. Applying for a transfer, after taking the better part of a year to come to terms with the change of their life, Yeshuiin found themselves star bound towards the SCCV Horizon at the age of 258, looking for a bit of solace and something new on a small cruiser adrift in the stars perhaps to work for a decade or two and finish their contract before returning home and starting again. What do you like about this character? I like to think this character is somewhat interesting. I'm not very good at these types of questions but things I think that are fun about it will be their approach to psychology and mutual understanding with the use of psionics to those willing to engage in such practices. Additionally, I look forward to delving into the religious aspect of Qeblak and the impact of spirituality for the character. I tend to play them as an observant type, carefully probing into those they engage with as they get to know them carefully. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't like this question, and I never have. I think I am an okay roleplayer, I know that I still have a lot to grow in and am actively trying to improve my RP every time I work on it. Feedback is always welcome in DMs. Notes: Wrbl. Edited April 1, 2023 by WhatsUpBrotendo
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 (edited) Hi, thanks for applying. I have nothing to say about the app other than that the Work Initiative Programme only started in 2464. It's still possible for your Skrell to have signed up fairly easily with Zeng-Hu if you wanted to keep the dates and backstory the same. I don't have much in the way of questions either, but one part of the backstory did stick out to me: Quote ...saw the psionically slightly gifted child relocated, along with their Qrri’Myaq who was not biologically related Why/how did their Qrri'Myaq join them? If the parents both had a low social credit score, it would be safe to say that the Qrri'Myaq also had a low social credit score. Edited March 31, 2023 by WhatsUpBrotendo I can't proofread
Bear Posted March 31, 2023 Author Posted March 31, 2023 Hi thanks for the feedback! I have updated my background with the rationale below. The Work Initiative Prorgramme blip was removed and replaced to simple application to Zeng Hu. As for the Qrri'Myaq, you raise a good point, I removed that entirely because I suppose it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense when you critically think about the original Quya's low social credit score, and they likely would have simply had a new mentor assigned. I had misinterpreted the blip below, putting a bit more importance on the bond and not really factoring that the Qrri'Myaq could change if necessary for the child. Quote In old skrellian, it directly translates to "Guru" or "Teacher". This relationship is considered sacred, and a right for all Skrell to have.
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 I forgot to do this before I went to bed. Accepted.
