Trusty - Vaurca Application

BYOND Key: Trusty_McCoolGuy

Character Names: Adelaide Winehardt, Nikita Fischer

Species you are applying to play: Vaurca

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: A soft peach / brown tone.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. I've read each page associated with Vaurca that I could find.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

The vaurcae are a really interesting species. I find their eusocial structure interesting, and I love the idea of putting myself in the shoes of someone who has grown up primarily on a false reality they proceed to live on in during their afterlife. The idea of reincarnation is also wildly interesting to me. I want to explore that potentiality and mindset of having both a short term lifespan but also a technically immortal mindset at the same time. Beyond that, the clash between advanced technology and humankind's perception of them being ant or termite-like in nature, as well as the idea that some vaurcae can be so wildly specialized as to be partially underdeveloped, it's ridiculously interesting to think of a sapient culture wherein the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few to the point of such intentional radical augmentation and intentional gene/biological alteration before hatching.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Humans are your typical bread and butter. They're normal, and have emotions and mindsets that most people would find inherently relatable, even if somewhat different from their own. In a vaurca, that mindset becomes wildly different. They are more sensitive to scents, they are photosensitive, they are highly discriminated against, they're able to go into space without much gear, they're relatively rigid in mentality (being in a eusocial, insect-based hive mind-accessing population used to high technology and literally recycling dead minds into new living ones). Vaurca are specialized and are provided with the information and skills they need to do their job, but they are on average not able to do other jobs very well as they are literally bred to be doing the work they do. Understanding that they function in an entirely different way from humans, for all that they are comparable to human mindsets in a lot of ways, means a lot of effort from a roleplayer to adequately convey not only a different culture and thought pattern, but also a different state of being.

Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Seele Zo'ra

Please provide a short backstory for this character (Approximately two paragraphs)

Ka'Akaix'Seele Zo'ra was chosen to be a xenoarchaeologist before being hatched, To that point, as a free-thinking worker, Seele was created to be intelligent enough to study what he sees; to adapt; to generally gain knowledge to pass back on to the hive. Serving his Queen is of course his purpose; and to that effect he has been on a few ships. He was on many ships before he was even truly hatched, exposed to the experiences of those past recreated as simulations to shape him to be curious, open, and resilient. He endured the discrimination of those who met with humans before him, basked in the support of his hive, mourned his failures and floated victoriously over each progressive success. He was molded to love learning for the sake of learning, and to be as exemplary as any vaurca worker had the potential to be. He was ready, upon his maturity, to be sent out among the stars - and his maiden voyage was to be upon an SCC ship.

Without any question, he followed the will of his Queen and the guiding of his Ta and teachers in the simulations before his hatching. He was excited to discover what he could about everything that he might discover upon such an illustrious ship, and was cautiously optimistic about the potential of finding what might amount to a second family - a hive cell of coworkers - among the ship there. He hoped that they would be understanding of him, and not make too much fun of him for having such an unfortunate speech impediment when it came to speaking in Basic. "It'zz not my vhault that I zzpeak thizz way, honezzt."

What do you like about this character?

I love the idea of a Vaurca that tries to be optimistic and kind, and learn as much as he can about others and unknown things in his field. I love vaurca in general and greatly enjoy interacting with them as it is; it'd be very nice to be able to actually play one and see what it's like on the other side, and how people interact with my vaurca. Would they be nice? Would they be cruel? It's an interesting thing and I feel like it would be beautiful to experience the kind of organic story that can come from a non-human interacting with humans, especially one that is not only easy to discriminate against, but one that is easy to make fun of for their naive friendliness, even if they are cautious about whether humans are trustworthy or not.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

It really depends, I guess, on the medium and what's happening at the given moment? I would say I'm a solid above average, at least? I've been roleplaying for eighteen years and I've done it on a variety of methods - games are a little trickier sometimes for me, especially Aurora as I'm still learning its mechanics, but I think I can come up with compelling/emotional/thought out reactions to things, and I believe I rarely bring in things that don't have a place in the situation.

Dont have any questions or anything, but because i am here and somone else will point it out (probbly):  Zo'ra, not Z'ora. Apostraphies in the wrong place.

Actually one question, just out of intrest, how old are they?

Ah, dang, thank you for correcting. I saw Z'ora instead of Zo'ra somewhere in the wiki or misread it and it stuck with me, I've committed that correction to memory now. Thanks!

Seele is one and a half years old at the point that they're shipped out - having spent some extra time in the Aether. They'll likely be slightly closer to 1 and 3/4 by the time they get on the ship and I start RPing as Seele, if the application gets approved anyway. : )
