MadMurky Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 BYOND key: MadMurky Discord Username: madmurky Character names: Zhi Jiang, Scientist Qi Jiang, Security Officer Adeline Camus, Pharmacist How long have you been playing on Aurora? I want to say I started playing on Aurora sometime in August or September, 2022 Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I received a warning many months back for misinterpreting a situation pretty badly and putting a bullpup round through an HoS who was performing a summary execution on someone in the halls after a snap decision on my part. I am happy to say that I have not had any repeat incidents and will strive to keep it that way. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? Largely I believe the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to both facilitate roleplay within the department and make sure everyone has something to do and that anyone within their department who wants to be involved in whatever wider events are occurring within the round is able to do so. The last thing a Head of Staff should be doing is going out of their way to overshadow the other members of their department by using their complete access within the department to supersede the roles of other characters within the round. Delegation is a key skill as is understanding the balance that exists between giving orders and keeping things fun while maintaining compelling roleplay. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? Partially answered in the last prompt, but one of the main responsibilities, I think, is to facilitate good, compelling roleplay and keep things fun. In essence, not to power trip just because you hold IC power over other characters but to still use that power in a way that gives people something to work with when it comes to roleplay and storytelling. Having a reasonable breadth of mechanical knowledge within the department you’re commanding is also key in this, and though it's not necessary to be an expert on every aspect of the department you should at least know where things are and, in general, what each role needs in order to do its job adequately. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. Zhi Jiang managed to avoid being placed on the list of those missing or killed during the Violent Dawn catastrophe by being put on a medical leave to recover from an acid attack mere months before the disaster occurred. She decided to undergo physical and genetic therapy on Earth, her home, and it was a decision that would prove fortunate as mere weeks after she arrived to begin her recovery did Mars light up in the night sky. To Zhi it was only further proof that she, and by extension her family, held claim to the mandate of heaven as this was far from the first time she had narrowly avoided death by nothing more than a stroke of luck. What she lamented most then was the loss of her lab and all of the ongoing experiments contained within. For any who had studied the history of the human race what followed the Violent Dawn within the Sol Alliance should have come as no surprise. Though it may have been the closest feeling to heartbreak Zhi Jiang had ever felt to watch her once proud nation fall into civil war and strife she understood, through her study of the histories of her ancestors, the history of China, that times such as these hold more than tragedy. For those of great daring, great wisdom, and great means times such as these hold opportunity; a chance to reach out and grasp the mandate of heaven and claim power over the destinies of billions. For those like Zhi what matters most is where you place yourself on the board. And so Zhi Jiang jumped at the chance to place herself upon the flagship of the SCC, the Horizon. She may not be a politician nor a military officer of notable rank but here, as a scientist, it was only a matter of time before she found herself in a position of command, in a position of power. However unlikely it may seem, Zhi believes that this is but the first step on the path to glory laid out for her by the Jade Emperor; a path that will lead to her one day wrenching control of Sol free from the grasp of those too weak, too cowardly, and too incompetent to hold onto it. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Research Director and Captain primarily. I’d also like to play XO and Liaison/Consular as soon as a compelling idea for a character comes to me. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I sure have! I made sure to read through them several times before I even considered making this application, as well as making sure to re-familiarize myself with all IC regulations. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Zhi Jiang, Research Director Atlacoya De La Fuente, Captain (I plan on getting some more experience with both engineering and medical first though, so I can better understand the circumstances of each department) Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I have made it so Extra notes: Good SOLdiers follow orders, except when those orders will lead to the collapse of your empire alliance into civil war. 1
RustingWithYou Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 I've played a lot of science with Zhi Jiang, and she's a very enjoyable character who's definitely pretty evil, but in the exact sort of way that I feel the SCC would favor. Good player, good character, solid +1
La Villa Strangiato Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I have played a lot with Murky over the years, and she played Pathfinder on Baystation before coming here. I think she's a really strong research player, but also a really strong research roleplayer who engages really effectively with research players. Essentially, she gives a lot of feedback through her characters, and even though I'm biased, I would give her the whitelist. +1
Axton_Wake Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Seeing Zhi Jiang being promoted to Director made complete sense IC. Why? She's among the number of science characters that actively establish, work on and perfect their projects, so it's fairly obvious why Zeng would want Jiang to occupy a senior position. The progress was gradual and often involved other people's characters for that, so I can definitely say Murky knows how to facilitate and share the RP experience, which is an important skill to have for someone aiming for a command WL. In addition, Murky's characters have always been nuanced on the moral spectrum. They're not good samaritans, per say, but also not devils in human clothing, so this intricate balance is always nice to see. Overall, a +1 from me for sure.
TeslaBeam Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 +1 Having played a handful of rounds in Science under Zhi Jiang, I feel comfortable saying they're a great Research Director. They are attentive to the department, always willing to help, and most importantly of all, they communicate often. I don't have any complaints about them as RD, I've only had good experiences. I'd love to see them stay in Command.
Vulcenus Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Zhi is a great character to interact with, and a natural in their position. Didn't even know it was a trial until I saw this thread. +1
