smoggie
BYOND Key: caseapollo58143 Character Names: Katyusha Mikhailova. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: not applicable I think. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: couple times over, I think I get the whole thing about it. I've read about the relations to manufacturing of them too and I think I have a reasonable idea of how they would exist. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had an interest in robots, they're something i find really interesting in media and in real life. Also, being fairly new to the lore I'm not very familiar with the games lore as a whole, only what I had to apply to my character to make them reasonably experienced with the setting. The inexperience and need to learn that comes with being a new IPC would also give me an opportunity to organically learn a lot more lore from other people without being a hindrance to the setting as I'd have almost a reason to be ignorant about the majority of things. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: From what I understand newer, lower end IPC's are very robotic in nature and have a lack of understanding of regular social cues, having to learn most of how to interact with other people as their equals out in the field. This makes interacting with others as an IPC a bit harder as you are restricted a bit more on expressing emotions and grievances you have with others. Actions have to also be taken carefully as planned out as IPC's run on logic and not impulse or emotion, all of their actions have some manner of pre-planning behind them and take great steps to avoid risks if possible. on top of that IPC characters can be seen as much more selfish then a human because of their much heightened concern for self preservation, I'd also have to make sure to reflect that as much as possible. Being a miner and a young IPC would make this difficult as physical safety would likely be their main concern, above that of working as efficiently as they could or helping others to a degree. Character Name: SE-34-3948729 Please provide a short backstory for this character (sorry in advance I'm not a very good writer, it's meant to be vague on purpose) The room was completely quiet, save for the buzzing of countless small insects. The old warehouse sat still in a state of suspension for it's 3rd month now with little to show for it. Contracts sat incomplete and splayed out across a desk, the now dying bulb choking the last occasional spark out before falling dim. Dust danced in the beaming light of a cracked window where sol shined on it's third son with it's usual benevolence, the breach giving the opportunity for nature to begin it's hostile takeover, the bulwark of concrete faltered beneath a steady climb of ivy dragging itself towards the new space, ripe for the taking. No man was welcome here again if nature had it's way. The entire room wailed with a discordant screech of rusted joints spurred one by the forceful insertion of a prybar against the door, the musk of rot and decay left one of the two men doubled over. The taller, more stoic of the pair remained upright, only deviating to duck under the jammed open door. "Fuck..." The officer sighed, eyes meeting the macabre display on the floor. It barely looked like the man they had been looking for anymore; more akin to a cheap and gorey horror flick. The flies has found him long before the duo had. Welfare checks were meant to be the easy calls. The second, the taller's shorter, more weasel-ish counterpart soon stumbled in after him. Their voice was dampened by the muffling barrier of a filtered mask, "Christ, how long do you reckon he's been dead?" he took a closer look and suppressed the urge to gag only just, "don't answer that, actually... I don't want to know." they both stood in silence, speechless, the moment had to pass eventually. There was a click and a beam of light pierced the dark where a lone case sat atop what *used* to be the pile of putrid viscera's legs. 4 eyes scanned the box greedily. A clipboard of sprawled manifests atop of it told of what exactly was inside. The shorter man gave a smile worthy of winning the lottery. "I know a guy who can get these things shipped off planet, you know? positronics - I mean, he makes things like these... has ties with Orion express, worth our salary 5 times over if you just leave it out of the report." //////// SE-34-3948729, He's about as young as you can get for an IPC where life experience matters, doesn't know how to make small talk, will take a while for him to figure out how to do so but he knows what he's doing. The data pack uploaded to him has given him enough know how to do his job however, he knows what he is and who he works for and that's all he needs to know for now. Positronic is midline, baseline chassis too, nothing special. Nothing especially fancy, just cheap shit bought for a lowball price. The serial number came up with with some out of business small time factory on sol-III. what do you like about this character? I like the lack of character to the character, or a clean slate of sorts that let's me develop their personality as i get more familiar with the people who play this server and make connections. it'd give me a good chance at organically adapting to the way you people play this game and getting people interested. As far as they are concerned they've always worked for Orion express and their word is final. Would make a good gopher if there was ever an event where a higher up in the company was present. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I wouldn't want to rate myself as i don't think i can trust myself to give a completely genuine answer as I'd probably be biased in my own favour anyway. I'd say a five as I'm not the best writer but i try a lot when i can. I've played on a few HRP servers before this but nothing strictly as heavy as this place so i don't know if I'll be as good at it as some of you are. I know I'm a bit of an unknown quantity here, I don't have many hours and I'm not really very easy to put your trust in but I'd really appreciate it, i love IPC's. Link to comment
Sycmos
Hello, and thank you for applying for a synthetic/IPC whitelist. I have a few questions regarding your application: Could you elaborate further on how SE-34-3948729 came into possession of Orion Express, and how this transaction from their original ownership to a megacorporation may have influenced their interactions with others as they are assumed to be sold under the table to the company? If SE is aware of their origin as a seemingly backroom deal owned synthetic, how do they feel about this arrangement? Do they feel it benefits or harms them? What do they think of Orion in this instance, participating in these sort of questionable transactions? How did they end up on the Horizon? What were the circumstances in which they were arranged to work on it? What do they think of it? Link to comment
smoggie
hey thanks for asking these questions, helps me think myself about the lore implications and such. (sorry if I'm not doing this right I'm not familiar with the way this forum works.) 1. To Orion's knowledge SE was sold completely legitimately to them by a reputable manufacturer, any suspicions regarding the model would have almost definitely been waived by any lower end sub-contractor hired to ensure quality of the goods. Getting an entire robot for such a cheap price would make a lot of people higher ups happy and reflect brilliantly on their future portfolio's. It'd be orion's belief that the person who had sold them the robot (the mentioned now defunct business) was the one to manufactured and assembled all the necessary parts. 2. SE would most likely be completely clueless about their origins, going under the similar assumption made by Orion that they were sold legitimately to them for a remarkably cheap price thanks to the person hired to conduct the deal. Perhaps later in time they could piece it together themselves when they've developed more as a character and had the time to think about their origins. But as of now the opinion on their background would probably be of indifference. 3. As a lot of people know the occupation of a shaft miner has an extremely high turnover rate, people constantly get mauled by carps and reavers or maybe just forget to put the spark in park. having something as expendable as a robot that can work for practically free and is much less disposed to just quitting the job outright would be a valuable asset to have on a ship like the horizon. Of course being an owned ipc and naturally wanting to keep themselves safe SE would probably hate his job, wanting to stay as far away from it as possible, though as of now he wouldn't be in the situation to leave. Did SE work anywhere else prior to the Horizon? How old are they? If they did, would they have developed any thoughts or experiences about their prior positions before the Horizon that might benefit their stay on board? Would you anticipate that SE might have the opportunity to discover more about their origin in the future, and develop as a result? How do you feel their timeline as a synthetic would develop given a whitelist? Would you potentially entertain them moving to another position if given the ability in the future? Link to comment
smoggie
1. no, this would be their first job and their positronic mind would be about as young as they can get, with my intention to develop them socially and such as they age in the game. 2. i wasn't exactly sure how i would play this out. But i had the idea to make the records purposefully inconsistent so perhaps with the nudging of some other person on the horizon they could piece together a vague idea of their past? The development has always been an interest of mine as that's what i find most interesting about a lot of similar things, maybe later down the line they could develop a more jaded outlook on the reputation of their employer? 3. most definitely, though they personally wouldn't ask given they wouldn't see why orion would say yes to such a thing and it'd probably have to be motivated by someone else. Specifically, how old did you intend your IPC's positronic to be in the context of their age and general experience? Link to comment
smoggie
i'm sorry if i missed something in the wiki pages i read through to know this, but i believe a fairly young age is about 6 months for an ipc which is what i went with. considering the minimum time a positronic needs to buy themselves freedom is about 1 year. their general experience would be little to none where their job experience wouldn't apply Link to comment
Sycmos
Thank you for applying, but unfortunately after consideration by the synthetic lore team we've decided to decline your application. The criteria that we are looking for in regards to complete synthetic whitelist applications has not been met in regards to sufficient detail regarding your whitelist character's background, and concerns regarding their behavior on board as a newly-activated positronic. We are looking for players to emulate realized synthetic characters that go beyond the basic measures of what can be accomplished by a cyborg. You are free to re-apply again in the future, and/or contact me for assistance. Link to comment
