Cosmetic Changes - Directives

During a shift, I moved several chairs around, and put a table into the cargo lobby. I was notified that I needed paperwork for that, by Xander, but he didn't make me redo my work, nor fill out any forms. I understand the paperwork and directive for that, but do we /really/ need that much paperwork for moving a few chairs around?

Its not 'paperwork' really. Its legit just a permission slip, you just need to be like "Hey, Head of [insert your department heads title], I need an aesthetic change slip, this is what I plan on doing"

And all they have to do, is write something out that says basically. "[insert crew member] has permission to do this and this and these non-structural changes to our department. [signature] ."

It's quite miniscule really, and completely on the Head of Staff to fill out, its just so people know to ASK permission.

To move a chair. A chair. That's like, moving a chair from one side of an office to another. I love doing paperwork, but come on.

I get that it's supposed to be for a remodel makeover, but sometimes it's a little bit overboard.

One round, with no HoP present, the bartender got permission to remodel his bar because it's his workplace, and he was the only one who needed to consent to the changes. He installed grass tiles and floor lights to make it a disco. But it was waivered for a long time because it was "cosmetic". And I, as a CE, had to play laws and politics and debate the directive's definition in why it should be allowed. Meanwhile, I gotta fill out a form and bother a head of staff to sign it (who had way, way, waaaaay more important things to do) just to move some windows in the robotic's lab.

I think we really, really, REALLY need to reconsider the directive. Can't we just keep it with verbal permission, and if a head of staff disapproves, it has to be undone? If no staff are present, agreement from crew must suffice?

The vending machines are what I see as needing permission, as you're taking that from another part of the station. I'd be fine with verbal permission too. I just dont like walking into the Bar to see recliners everywhere when I was never spoken too about them.

Hi. I wrote that directive.

The point of the directive was not to make it harder to modify your department, but rather easier for the bartender/chef/QM to remodel.

Written permission was only intended to be required for people who are NOT in charge of the department (So like, if you have an assistant or engineer do the change). Vending machines, however, always need a full-on station modification request form with the CE or Captain's approval.

Xander went a little overboard here. The wording of the directive may need to be tweaked a little.

Sorry, but windows are structural! Most of them serve an important purpose (such as splitting up a large area so it can be re-pressurized neatly) and adding in windows can sever pump-syphon pairs. This is the sort of change the CE really needs to sign off on. "A few windows" is really more than just that.
