Character Names: Darwin Collins, Kezerjem Jaar’zeck, Vigo Cromb

Species you are applying to play: Diona

General Whitelist Requirements

What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Dark(Spaceborne Geras)

Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this species?:

I want to explore more options in my roleplay opportunities. I, personally, think I’ve done pretty well as a Tajara, and where it scratches my itch of playing an “average Joe”. I have discovered an interest in playing something completely alien in physiology and culture. I might want to play Vaurca eventually but if I were to do that it would be to play a Ta, which I am currently not looking for at the moment. Diona seems like the perfect milestone for what I’m looking to achieve, being able to play an extremely old and completely alien being to the vast majority of the crew.

What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human?:

Dionae are a collection of Diona formed together in a gestalt which is the combined force of several nymphs. These nymphs work together in mutual agreement with each other for their survival and benefit, obviously this is different from a human, who have a singular mind, where a Dionae have several minds at once working together. Dionae have a unique way of gaining experiences and perspectives as well, through DNA sampling. For example, presenting a gestalt with the concept of knighthood and honor, or an alien religion and attempting to instruct them verbally or with example. Where the information filter of verbal communication and visual instruction can be skipped completely for the direct experience and the emotion involved with it(if the donor is alive, the dead do not yield any emotional memory when absorbed). Dionae also have extremely long lifespans, indefinite lifespans at that, and with the passage of time and the collection of experiences, Dionae often have extremely vast, unique, and refined perspectives on many subjects.

Character Name: Pebble On A Pile Of Lessons

Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon.:

Pebble On A Pile Of Lessons is a Geras gestalt that classifies as a Scholarly Song mind type. They come from the Wandering Chorale of the Spur Cetus. This interstellar upbringing gives Pebble, two centuries after their creation, a darkened bark, slow pace and equally slow but calculated approach to conversation. The gestalt departed two centuries prior to the discovery of the Cetus in April of 2464. Several nymphs coalesced with an interest of collecting more experiences to one day return to the Cetus’ seeding grounds in the Unabating Call system and inform the cluster of their findings. The gestalt had drifted somewhere between Tau Ceti space and the modern day Corporate Reconstruction Zone for an odd century before finding itself anchored to a cluster of debris several AU from Mictlan in 2425. Here it rooted until the 2440s where a surveyor team from Mictlan discovered the cyclops rooted to one of the larger planetesimals. A Mictlani survey member made first contact with the gestalt and offered them a further sampling to better understand their environment. Pebble was given passage to Mictlan’s Fallowed Gardens and employment as a construction worker for NanoTrasen in nearby cities until the Solarian ban on NanoTrasen work within their space. This changed within a year following the ban where Pebble found itself a citizen of the Republic. In late 2463, the gestalt decided to leave Mictlan following several egregious trespasses made by the conflicting parties during the civil unrest on the planet as well as the surrounding Solarian collapse.

The gestalt considered little for the exact corporation they would work for and where they would end up, joining for the experience and opportunity to learn more perspectives and share its own experiences. Though they would not share this with their employers, rather, withholding the information and in its place telling the NanoTrasen hiring agent that they would work as often as they could and with as much effort as the company would expect of it. Money held little concern to the Geras and with the Alliance’s and now Republic’s current policy of tagging and limiting Dionae growth, as well as having no natural need to expand itself at the time and no reason why the gestalt may want to split for the perceivable future, Pebble had little care for where they went, as long as they continued their interest. Gaining its Republic citizenship right before leaving Mictlan in the 63 following twenty years of employment. The gestalt wished to experience another location and the best way to do that, having little in finances, was through a transfer in employment. Their good record and employment history gave the gestalt more opportunities than it originally had, bringing it to the Horizon as a gardener. Though the vessel’s tumultuous history concerned the gestalt, Pebble was bothered little as it seemed the only crew to be fatally harmed or gravely injured were ones in occupations which would expect an outcome like such.

Pebble views life in all shapes and sizes equal in value to each other and keeps an open mind on what qualifies as such. The gestalt has defended itself numerous times against life in interstellar space, especially on the planetesimal it latched to before being discovered by the Mictlani survey team. Only a few of these, enough to count on one human hand, ended fatally for the attacking fauna. It is not something Pebble regrets and is considered unavoidable by the gestalt, who only ever intends to maim an attacker to immobility or inability to pursue the gestalt and only if the gestalt cannot escape or peacefully de-escalate the situation. Pebble views beings as capable of forming their own opinions and enacting their own wills on the universe around them or following their programming, whether that be biological or synthetic. Seeing beings both break from their nature or follow it, Pebble learned to appreciate life from its most mundane or rudimentary forms to its most complex examples. This perspective on life does not extend to a religious faith, though extremely unlike to change their mind, the gestalt can seem as if it practices an underlying faith with its unwillingness to consider life differently, its overall view of life within the universe, and its belief that the gestalt can impart wisdom and change the lives of many beings even after it has departed from their presence. Pebble does not technically follow the Eternal faith, having made contact with the official faith after discovering alien religions during their time on Mictlan, the gestalt considers the spiritual parts of the faith as another unique expression of life in the universe.

How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character?: Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character.

Pebble left Mictlan during the Peacekeeper Mandate and the surrounding Solarian Collapse, in 2463, feeling it was time to search for more experiences within the Spur and that Mictlan was undergoing a change for the worse. A combination of worrying for the gestalt’s own safety, the next step in their journey/quest, and their financial status gave Pebble little in options of traveling. Their two decade employment history with NanoTrasen gave Pebble a shot at seeing somewhere new in a way which they could not afford otherwise. Mictlan joining the Republic and NanoTrasen's continued business practice combined with the gestalt's interest in continued employment in the Chainlink brought a citizenship and an opportunity to leave Mictlan.

How does your character view the megacorporation they work for?:

Pebble views NanoTrasen in a neutral to positive light, with little interest in moving up rather than moving on. They know the Chainlink uses aliens to their advantage, and they care little for that fact, not needing money, nutrients, or having a biological need to expand itself in a traditional manner. However, employed transfer being the only feasible way for the gestalt to interact with other intelligent beings and thus continue their collection of experiences, Pebble holds a grateful attitude for this opportunity of a lifetime to their employer.

specified the last sentence of the last paragraph of the backstory. Words added were "technically", "spiritual parts of". Words removed "Little else to think of it", as it seems poorly worded.

Hi there! Thanks for your application.

Just some questions:

Does Pebble follow a religion, if so which one, if not, why not?

How does Pebbles view the Peacekeeper Mandate? Was it a necessary evil, or a cruel decision?

How does Pebbles perceive the Eternal and their leadership, the Omnivirate

How does Pebbles perceive the Eternal and their leadership, the Omnivirate

Although Pebble is not an official follower of the Eternal faith, through Rootsong traveling interstellar distances, concepts of the Eternal have been in circulation for a vast time before the official formation of the church. These concepts have ‘rooted’ themselves into many Dionae, including Pebble. The gestalt agrees with most of the fundamental beliefs of the Church and demonstrates its own belief in a higher goal in its mission to gather as much experience, or knowledge, and one day reunite with its Cetus. They also believe in the basics of the Eternal Cycle, and that Dionae have a large responsibility in the Universe, that beyond Temporals, though not above them. Pebble, however, disagrees with the more spiritual beliefs of the Church, like the belief in some primordial entity embodying light, this skepticism is founded in comparisons to other deities embodying stars within other species’ religions. The Omnivirate as a political body on Biesel is not something Pebble views in a positive light, thinking they would be better off among stars where their discourse can reach more of their kind. Though understanding that as a representative of its kind and a reachable voice by any being on Biesel is important, Pebble balances these two differences within their consensus into a more positive view and another interesting form of life. The gestalt often finds itself in a majority agreement with the Iron Eternal’s principles. Technology is a useful component in helping store, access, and spread information, and before Pebble decides to make the pilgrimage to its Cetus’ seeding grounds, it intends to copy its knowledge and experience over the last two centuries somewhere with the Church.

The Peacekeeper Mandate was part of the reason the gestalt agreed to move on from Mictlan, not a personal negative, but a cruel time for the people of Mictlan caused by the turmoil from the Mandate and the parties involved. The two years of instability and the surrounding Solarian Collapse convinced Pebble to depart the world and continue on its journey.
