MeowsterChief
Title says it all. Before we moved away from the Aurora, did anybody happen to save the full map of the Aurora and her various z-levels? I'm hoping for full-station photos like we used to have on the Web map, but if there exists a way to create the photos myself, I am absolutely willing to learn if someone can point me in the right direction. I'm aiming to throw together some nostalgic wallpapers, and occupy myself with recreating bits of the place to satisfy my nostalgic heart. Love and miss you guys, — Jet the medborg 1 Quote Link to comment
Skull132
One way would be to take the github repository and travel back in time to a point where the Aurora map was still actively maintained. A very safe bet is probably around the start of March in 2022. Perhaps something like this: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/tree/94db3417541ddbfd7e42df3421796ca015eb5349 This probably requires an older version of BYOND to properly work as well. According to BYOND's webserver, 514 was all the rage back then: https://www.byond.com/download/build/514/ any minor release from here should hopefully work. If we were smart in 2022, we actively checked for too new or old of a version. So basically: download repo, download old byond, use old byond to compile repo, use old byond to run repo, voila. Now, if you want Aurora with relatively new sprites and shit... You'd have to find a more recent state of the repo that still had Aurora, maybe January of this year? But there you might have some broken aspects as well. 3 Quote Link to comment
MeowsterChief
Thank you so very much @Skull132! I'll get on this when I have the time and toss you one more thanks when I'm up and running. One last question for you; what method would you suggest for grabbing these images? i.e., Does the build itself output images for the webmap? Or would I do something like Ghosting around the station to grab what I need? Quote Link to comment

Use VV to edit your ghost's opacity to 0 (or 255?) to be fully invisible, and voila. Quote Link to comment
MeowsterChief
And so it begins... thank you very much, Skull. You've made me a very happy spaceman. Quote Link to comment
hazelmouse
If you just want to look at the map without loading it ingame, you could also install StrongDMM and load the .dmm files for the Aurora in there. It'd be a bit closer to using the webmap than just ghosting around, and it's pretty easy to use! It also allows you to take a screenshot of the entire map. https://github.com/SpaiR/StrongDMM Edited October 4 by hazelmouse Quote Link to comment
