  1. Another cultured fellow who understands the cluwne. Welcome.
  2. Read recommended books for me to read. They did not say that I would like those books. I was not prepared and became mentally shooketh. plz ban, serious offence. +1
  3. No, it's not. It adds unnecessary constraints to folks operating on the present reality and on the future. Myself and Yeahchris were kind of fortunate enough to not have had any "Founding doctrine" imposed upon us, when we took the leadership helm. This allowed us to put energy into creating our own vision, recruiting people who shared this vision, and players who shared it. It allowed us to take ownership of what we created. One of Aurora's original creators spent years publicly ruing the server because we didn't follow whatever vision he had originally had. (And yet, here we still are.) I wouldn't place such a burden, even if perceived, unto the folks currently leading and participating on the server. I'd let Aurora be what it is, and become what it wants to become.
  4. also, holy fucking shit it's voltage.
  5. Holy fucking shit, it's Yeahchris. I do think I 'member you mentioning moving to help your father. And I'm both sorry for your loss, and glad that you feel like it paid off. It took me another 8 years and a second organizational leadership position to effectively learn the same priorities. (And a bit of depression :^) ) But I'm glad that I did and I'm glad that you pursued something similar as well. It's been. A wild ride here. I've actually been both officially and practically retired for 1.5 years now, believe it or not. But Aurora has indeed grown a lot. And has been built up to, hopefully, be quite sustainable. Not only thanks to me, but thanks to a lot of the staff that have been here since 2015 or so. We've survived funky dramas, 80% of the mod team quitting on us at one point, overall SS13 related shenanigans, etc. Made crazy technological advancements. The SS13 community itself has changed a lot as well. Believe it or not, there's now a fully functional common ground discord, where hosts and leadership of almost all large servers hang around in, communicate in! And all the while I've graduated uni twice, and now lead a tech team in the aviation sector! If you at all wanna chat, find me on Discord. Been a lot that's happened since!
  6. NFTs in Aurora W H E N.

swear to god i'll get your ass if you give them ideas

  7. It's Go, and the stats aren't maintained over a month. Could get longer periods from the server database. Also, regarding past times. Admins would regularly press the button to automatically set up power during low-pop up until a few years ago. So perhaps some automated systems would actually be valid for here, and would have precedent.
  8. Considerations and thots: This can be used to help codify and present more elements of _da lore_, as Marlon pointed out above. Universities/schools, major hospitals, place of birth, what else? Consider making record entries/notes permanent via SQL and manageable by the user, much like security record entries are. Or, at least, leave the possibility of this being added later 👀 Don't go too crazy with options or fields.
  9. "Bridge hand" as a title over "Bridge crew" might be a fun one to consider. If we're picking nits.
  10. For maximum curiosity, I think that doing away with TCB's default status might be a funky and interesting decision to explore. Although, how could this be made to work without a cop-out solution (like translators in the ear pieces).
  11. Or paradise stopped being paradise despite being on the cyberiad. Altho I still think keeping server and ship name the same would be best - - more newbie friendly.
  12. Good post. Further points for consideration. From an antagonist perspective, killing someone is often the only way to actually remain "safe". Or "Safest" out of all of the possible alternatives. A majority of characters tend to taddle the moment they're released, even if under some form of threat. Keeping hostages is incredibly costly and basically removes your freedom as an antag, because you have to monitor the hostage, and hostages aren't mobile. Etc. So really, if you get caught doing something naughty, very quickly, aggressively, and violently nuking whoever saw you is the best way to remain safe. Sure, someone's gonna see a murder, but they won't have a clue as to who did it. At least, not initially. "Violence of action" is a very useful principle to adhere to while playing antagonist in SS13, including on Aurora. Killing someone in such scenarios obviously will not really "offer" any RP to the unfortunate victim. But the idea is that keeping the antagonist alive and safe will allow them to continue affecting the round. And the more an antagonist can affect the round, the more eventful the round is. Ideally, anyways. Obviously many things can happen. Security can shut them down later, they might fuck up, their plan might end up failing, whatever. But such is life. With regards to what could be done to amend the situation. Here's a thought. Even if the staff end up ruling in favor of an antag from the player complaints, ahelps, etc. that get generated from legitimate killing of characters, there's a considerable amount of mental stress from simply being involved in such activities, moreso as the "target". So perhaps more decisive dismissal, without even touching the implicated player, would benefit the general situation? It would make the antagonist players feel safer, since they no longer get pinged about everything. Also, anonymizing antagonists further would possibly help. 🤔
  13. While the initial point you make is valid, the proposed solution would lead to gutting one department even further and adding even more responsibilities to another. Which isn't necessarily a great play. "Science" doesn't necessarily have to be "Science" in terms of conducting novel research. Having a micro-electronics role or such responsible for small scale prototype and device manufacture could easily be feasible, which is what the protolathe and circuit board stuff does.
  14. No change in SS13 is permanent. Just a matter of what time frame is allocated to changing it again
  15. idk i actually quite enjoy the aesthetic that's on display. 🤔 Those lighter coloured walls look sweet as well.
  16. One further consideration. There's nowhere to really run for the antag. The entire station is controlled and inhabited by forces hostile to them. Not many people are willing to help take in an antag, for example. So a yet unanswered question is, where does an antag go after committing bloody murder?
  17. Holy shit. I actually burst out laughing at whoever posted that Discord post. Jfc get a clue, folks.
  18. Okay but, why tho? It's pretty easy for new players to grasp that the server name is Aurora, and thus the ship's/station's name is also Aurora. Makes sense, simple, etc. etc.
  19. I no longer bare the burden of prophecy, I have achieved my destiny, I am free.

  20. There's a selection of people from whom I will still happily take code related pings from at 2 AM 😉
