Cash7800 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) BYOND key: Cash7800 Discord Username: Cash7800 Character names: Za'Akaix'Eek Zo'ra Grace Navin Clarity Beck How long have you been playing on Aurora? For a few years I think. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've recieved a bunch of warnings and one antag ban. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? To me, the purpose of a Head of Staff ingame is to keep everyone on the same page, and make sure there are fun roleplaying opportunities. Heads of Staff should facilitate interactions across departments, and figure out things to do. Steering the round in a good direction and giving people interesting decisions to make is something I think a Head of Staff should be doing. There is a balancing factor to this, as players should be given the chance to do their own roleplay without overbearing Heads of Staff interrupting them constantly. Humoring antag gimmicks in a believable way is something Heads of Staff have to do a lot. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? Ensuring new players are getting guidance on gameplay mechanics and getting a chance to roleplay is important. Command Whitelisted players should accept good faith feedback and criticisms and take them into account. Breaking the rules with powergaming, metagaming, poor escalation, or unbelievable roleplay as a Head of Staff can be even more harmful to the round than as a normal player, and it is even more important than usual to avoid this. Shutting out other players from antag gimmicks or roleplay opportunities should be avoided as much as possible. Command having a meeting with antags for an hour instead of letting them do their gimmick is something I want to avoid. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. After a short-lived attempt at Stardom, Mania Haller resigned herself to the Venusian Planetary Police Force. Haller worked in the VPD for some time, standing around at the appropriate venues and overlooking the proper crimes she was getting a degree in Criminal Psychology on the side. Haller wanted to be a corporate investigator somewhere far away from Binyara, maybe Venus altogether. Her plans were sidetracked by nearly a decade of political turmoil in Sol, a series of of rogue admirals, fascist takeovers, an economic collapse, and even civil war. After years of dealing with limited options, and much further along in her VPD career than she expected, she managed to qualify for a management position on the SCC Horizon. That would surely take her as far away from Venus as anything, right? What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Head of Security for now, If I try out other command roles I will play around in those departments more beforehand. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes, I have read the command role wiki pages. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Mania Haller, Head of Security Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes, I understand that my whitelist is not permanent and could be stripped due to administrative action. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I think so? I was able to log into my forums account through the game, so probably. Edited March 3 by Cash7800 I thought it was just current characters but anthony said I should add more 1 Quote
Owen Posted March 7 Posted March 7 On trial until 14 March 2025. During this time, try to play your command character as much as possible. You may advertise your application in OOC once per round to get feedback on your command play. If you have any questions, feel free to post here or message one of the Command WL team members over Discord. Good luck! Quote
dessysalta Posted Saturday at 01:33 Posted Saturday at 01:33 (edited) Was the HOS for an ungodly long shift themed around synth liberation. Played it straight with us (the antagonists), acted with appropriate concern for the ship as well as fear for their own and others' lives. Didn't stonewall it and judging by their comms and attitude, delegated properly. This shouldn't really be surprising because it's Cash, but from our side of things they're good. Will edit once I get to play under them. E: After playing a round under them, I echo what strawberry said to a degree. They enable gimmicks just fine, but enforcing the regulations and to what diligence is somewhat up in the air; I was told to get a statement but not to detain them unless they actively tried to run or resist (which means just detain them in the first place?), and I specifically was told to document the changes after the fact when other officers were explicitly told it wasn't necessary, it ended up being glossed over anyway. It got harder when factoring in things I had witnessed first hand being ignored, combined with conflicting orders. On the plus side of things, they didn't let anyone in their team take the fall and backed them up during misunderstandings. I have mixed feelings about the application. I want to say they're just getting the hang of things, and so I would push for an extension rather than a denial. As before, will update as I gather more experience. strawberryx3c Posted Saturday at 04:43 Posted Saturday at 04:43 They were the HOS for a round of Mercenaries where I played a Security Officer. They opened the round with a training exercise which I really enjoyed, it's rare to see HOS players actually engage with the team somehow. The only issue I think I have is with the character. They quickly departed from SOP, seemingly without exigent circumstances, and when informed they were violating SOP they issued illegal orders to arrest my character. I think that a fast and loose Head of Security can be done well, I just don't think it can be done by a veteran police officer with a degree. I do recognize that non-canon rounds present circumstances which sometimes render SOP and the Corporate Regulations impractical or impossible to follow. However I think that part of a HOS' OOC responsibilities is to uphold a standard of behavior. Really it's a nitpick because if I don't like it I could just, you know, apply for whitelist myself and do it how I think it should be done. I think the IC behavior definitely rose to the level of CCIA (were it not a non-canon round) but not to the level of a player report. Overall, still good! My major points are these: -Improve IC adherence to Regs and SOP when able -Alter the character's backstory if they will be fast and loose. I would probably go with an ex rent-a-cop/military contractor instead of a career police officer. -Remember that non-canon rounds are not necessarily an excuse to go crazy with what your character does IC as the Head of Security. (Also, canon rounds aren't necessarily a signal that you should be a complete angel!) That said, +1. I would absolutely love to see this character (and player) come into their own as HOS and other heads if they wish to play them. ss13-chatlog-20250308-044151.html Quote
DrPockets Posted Monday at 02:01 Posted Monday at 02:01 +1 from me. Think they do a very good job delegating and giving room for antags to operate. Also does a good job of giving instructions, but not micromanaging. I think I've had 4-5 shifts with Haller and there has been some miscommunications between Haller and members of the department some of those rounds, but no more so than any other HoS would have. QuestioningMark Posted Monday at 04:21 Posted Monday at 04:21 +1 They actually communicate well, I'm liking it so far. Perhaps announce a few more things to general so people who aren't in command and security channels can feel a bit more involved. Quote
