Saintsbury's Skrell Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key:

Saintsbury

Character Names:

Herman Hodge, Michael Bameron

How long have you been playing on Aurora:

2 at most 3 Weeks if I remember correctly. If logs state otherwise please feel free to correct me on this.

Species you are applying to play:

Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

I tend to orange/yellowish, because I want my Skrell to be a toptier Doctor/Medical Scientist/Geneticist from Qerrbalak. Not pink/reddish, because my first character is always male and sexist and reasons. Maybe when I do a female character or a controverse one.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:

Yes, I'm currently making this while reading through >>this<< after I finish every sentence.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

First: I want to bring in more variaty. Even after the Tajaran hype is over, there are still some left and we currently have an Unathi hype, which will leave some permanent Unathi player as well. And just because I love Skrell.

Second: I love to play overly rational characters. Skrell are like the Vulcans of Space Station 13 to me and I'd love nitpicking at everything crewmember do unefficient or unrational. The problem will be to blend a Skrells emotions, because they feel, they just can't express them, which differs them from Vulcans by the way. Challange accepted.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

They have too be much more rational in their decision making, because Skrell don't like having the odds against them, they try to avoid hopeless situations as much as possible. They have to be rational and analytical while still being able to show emotions. Humans can simply ignore logic, Skrell can't, at least not on the same level as humans do. (Skrell Captain/Head of Security would be interesting as well).

They also have to be able to speak syntactically perfect if they already lived in the human society for foreseeable time, while they have to pronounce things slurred because of the lack of teeth and tongue, which is kind of more of a challange then to point out R and S and speaking broken english as Tajaran/Unathi in my opinion. As stated above: Challange accepted.

Character Name:

En'mosy T'nelas (Inspired by Mass Effect Asari, because I couldn't find any Info on Aurora Wiki and I dislike the Baystation12 Version).

If that name is not okay, tell me, I'll think of a new one, created by the criteria you hopefully will include to your critic.

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Thoughts of En while working on a new neuro-implant on Jargon IV:

"What am I, what are you, what is this all. Why is this all. So many questions and only limited time to find answers. To search for too many answers at the same time would result in nothing. One problem found, one question asked, one answer looked for. How can I get rid of this sideffect which makes using this implant too dangerous."

"A human philosophy states that changing your perspective may answer all the questions, to look at things from another angle. If you can't answer one particular question, change it, redo, reformulate. An rather interesting point. Disregard everything even if seems rational and reconstruct the whole question from scratch. That means the problem lies not inside the strength of the electronic pulse, the problems are the areas itself I connect the implant to are the problems. If I completly rearrange all the synaptic connections while changing the electronic pulse pattern of the implant. Eureka, as the human philosoph Archimedes would say."

Working for a Skrellian implant manufactory he was always the one asked to solve the problems the other developers couldn't solve. They never understood where the problem itself lied in a new implant design and would just dispose of the design and start working on a complete new implant. They always just saw an problem without answer. At first he was the same, but once a human touristgroup from a Tau Ceti colony visited the factory on Jargon IV. A human elder told him to look at the problem from another angle. This small advice, more of a phrase of wisdom every grandparent would give their child, changed the young Skrellians point of view. He started to search answers from a more philosophical view, rearranged the problem instead of disregarding it.

And at long last he decided to leave his homeplanet to widen his angle. to be able to see the problem from a wider more distant point of you, to get a better overview of the questions which need to be answered. Of course he applies for a job at the most trusted human company: NanoTrasen.

What do you like about this character?

The Skrell are a harmonic race which have a wide range of emotions, but rather try to solve problems through pure logic and equating the odds. What is the problem, how do the odds stand that it could be solved. En'mosy T'nelas made a first step try combine human philosophy with the skrellian way, one of the first "combinational" philosophs who try to combine the way of life of different xenolifeforms.

(He will probably start writing books inside the library about that topic, too).

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

B- ..... Joking.

I'm not that good in Roleplaying, at least I think I'm not, I try my best, try to stay in Role, try to always use the same Role for one Character. It does not always work. Sometimes it works so well it's an endless well of fun. Well one cannot judge oneself objectively. Let the others decide.

Hi.

A few grammatical errors, but overall quite a good application.

I actually have a Skrell HOP that I used to play as Captain, and the reason there's no naming section on the Skrell page is because mostly people can name Skrell whatever the fuck they want as long as it sounds spacey.

Oh and Accepted.
