Venty Posted Wednesday at 20:23 Posted Wednesday at 20:23 (edited) BYOND Key: VentClass Discord Username: Venty (ventclass) Character Name: Arkadi Malki Item Name: Outsized Zona Bovina Item Function(s): There are a few functions this item will serve, all to provide mechanical backing to something I've been doing as Arkadi already: 1. Two buttons, the ones at the top-right of the screen, will be created. One will create a short automatic me message and stun Arkadi for between 10-25 seconds, to replicate an absence seizure. The other will also do a me message, though more intense, and send Arkadi into a mechanical seizure for 30 to 60 seconds. These can be activated manually. 2. It will also cause the first type of seizure upon having smaller flashes like the penlight or the welder being used on him automatically, and the second on larger flashes like flashbangs or handheld flashes. 3. Finally, the mechanical seizure will be triggered upon someone attempting to use telepathy on Arkadi. Item Description: A zona bovina that has developed further than most, promoting a high psionic sensitivity. Unfortunately, the rest of the brain has not adapted well to it; Paired with the existing condition of epilepsy, it has worsened the symptoms drastically. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Arkadi has had epilepsy since his inception as a character, and I've actively shown him suffering from the effects since last year. The absence seizures, the canon and non-canon epileptic seizures, and the general mental affects that his condition has had on his personality and himself as a person. How did your character obtain this item?: He was born with the condition, and it is aggravated by his zona bovina being more developed than most. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: This item demonstrates a condition that Arkadi has had to deal with all his life, and also demonstrates how it has affected him. Being born with a chronic condition in a ruralist, religious and isolationist culture of the Din'akk Mountains has drastically shaped how he acts around others and how he feels about himself, especially since such conditions could be viewed as a bad omen. It also affects his on-ship life as well, with the habits he formed back home being viewed as strange or "twitchy" as a result. I believe this will allow me to better represent an aspect of him and demonstrate how he is affected in his daily life. Sprites: I've talked with TCJ about this, and we're gone with the idea of using the existing sprites for the mind blanker (the V3 that was released) to work as the zona bovina in this instance. Sprites for the buttons, we are still discussing, but they can be easily figured. Additional Comments: TCJ is willing to help code all aspects of this custom item, as seen in the below screenshot. WickedCybs Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago This is denied for a few reasons. Psionics are the domain of skrell lore. If the other species are to get psionic related content, it will have to come from the lore teams/devs. Custom items aren't a desired avenue for it. You have the best intentions here, but I don't really like the idea that this might negatively affect another character unaware of a specific customized disability if they were use telepathy. That's not really fun for other people in practice when it comes to things someone has no reasonable way of knowing exists beforehand. Epilepsy would be better off as a general disability anyone could choose, rather than for one character. You can also just rp these things out to an extent.
